Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Approx 2100sqft of siding required (minus doors and windows) so I’m assuming 2100 including wastage.

I believe they usually add at least 10% to total amount to account for waste. This is not taking doors/windows out of the equation.
There will be areas where you will need to use a new board because the cut off you wanted to use is only 1/2 to short. Forcing you to cut from a new full length.

The only amount I took out was the 120sqft for the garage door. The rest I assume are full walls.

So even with that....2300sqft should be plenty.

Insulation - $3000
House Wrap - $415
Wood strapping - $?? (haven't measured yet)
Siding - $15-35k (depending on product)

This does not include an electrician to move the mast out 4-6", and an HVAC guy to move out the gas meter away from the house. Also does not include the corner trims (windows / doors / corners of the house)

So I assume another few grand there.

Fellows in our siding division are recommending any of the Rona stores for Hardee , pricing does not really vary from one retailer to another . Rona stores will have access to real time inventory and lead times. Good luck.
This is the response I was looking for the last 10min...

So you recommend going through the RONA stores for Hardie siding? Not any of the installers / distributors?

At 2200-2300sqft gets pricy fast. Rough quote of 35k just using an avg price on LOWEs site.

Rona/lowes are sub distributors, any installer will be taking thier Rona discount and dinging you retail. Actually go into the Rona store contractor desk and have it priced out .
If needed I'm sure setting up a Rona contractor account can be done easily to get the discount.

I changed some things around in the house and mounted a TV above an unused fireplace. It looks awesome but I need to put my center channel speaker (big Paradigm thing) underneath the TV and the only place for it is in the unused fireplace. In order to raise it up as much as possible (closer to the TV) I need some kind of stand or shelf that’s 18” tall and won’t look dumb in the fireplace. I can’t find anything that’s relatively cheap and looks good. There’s lots of monitor stands that would look ok but those are only about 6” high max. I have some old IKEA coffee tables but they are too high. I thought about drilling into the firebrick in the fireplace to put some support brackets in but I don’t think I want to do that.

Any ideas?

Pics? Can you hang it? Easy enough to build something (bookshelf, knickknack shelf, liquor shelf).

There are sound bar mounts that you can attach to the back of the TV. Sandwich it between the TV mount and TV.
Would that work?

Logs? Why does the speaker have to be close to the TV. Decorative? Sound will just go it's own direction.
You can raise the sound effect somewhat in settings but it should be closer to where the dialogue sound is supposed to come from (center channel is mainly for dialogue).

I have practically no clearance between the top of the mantle and the cavity for the TV to put a speaker in. I’ve got 1.5” clearance at the top and bottom. The center speaker is 5” tall and weighs a fair bit. I’m reluctant to change it out for a Soundbar as it sounds so good and is tied in to a nice receiver.

I’m trying to find a small cheap coffee table or shelf unit but they are either too tall (20+ inches for a coffee table) or too short (6 inches for a monitor shelf). I might end up hacksawing the legs off a cheap side table but was wondering if there was something I hadn’t thought of yet.

Measure up and find a local welder , basic tube made to fit , paint it flat black and it becomes invisible in the firebox . Easy fix

I think if you post a picture of the TV with fireplace we can help with some more ideas.
