Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

My dad gave me an old Black and Decker circular saw today. It's all metal and was made in Canada (Brockville)

I don't think I'll ever use it but I want to polish it up and put it on display somewhere

It looks similar to this:

Link doesnt work for me. My dad probably has the matching sander and maybe jigsaw.

Mine is from the late 60's, early 70's:

I've got one of those B&D workbenches with the iron legs. Given to me by a friend when their father downsized their house.

I want to put a roll out awning on the back deck over my BBQ, would need to be about 10ft wide and motorized, just because. Anybody have a good lead ??

I have a specific look in mind , I can’t do the stripes , I’m looking for a pale or mid grey solid colour with a black frame . I found one online from a company in Vaughn , I think it’s what I would like and has a built in hood so the canvas stays clean . It’s more than I wanted to pay but the Home Depot link has everything, expect the colour I think I need .
Appreciate the offer Steve

The lack of stripes would be great but I got mine for 400 on sale and am cheap.

Sent using a thumb maybe 2

Fixed garage stairs into house. 2 steps and a platform which they charged me $800 to do yet couldn’t be bothered to put a support in the middle so those 2 steps would creak every time I used them. Small job but when I use them half a dozen times each day it’s satisfying fixing them. Either that or it’s my ocd :)

There is a place on Laird Rd in Mississauga. No idea of pricing.

There is also a place on Britannia that is supposed to be decent. I dealt with them once for replacement cloth on a manual retractable. Pricing was good but I cheaped out and did it myself with one from Lowes. Regretted it.

The fabric is really important , there are a few name brands in outdoor fabric that cost a fair amount of money , the asain import specials are cooked in two yrs .

Thanks HD , I think the sunguard option may be what I'm looking for

Is this for sun or rain protection? I've had good luck with coolaroo for shade, no good for weather though. They don't sell awnings but maybe someone uses their fabric in an awning.

EDIT:
It doesn't fit your plan, but an awning made out of a retired sail could be cool. They sound nice in the breeze.

Awning is for a bit of rain protection, the Gods can predict when I will light the Bbq . I'd like the electric motor so when I carry everthing in from the grill I can roll it up.

A decomissioned sail always looks kind of cool , but its not the look I'm after at this house. Most of my bigger sails are carbon , ironically they hate UV. I sent an email off to HD's sunguard reference , I'll see what they come back with

Where did you get that? The usual places don't sell it (CT, HD, PA) Amazon has a listing but seems over priced.
You can buy packs of neodymium magnets fairly cheaply. They are great for finding screws. Since you have a pack of them you don't even need to mark the wall, just leave magnets stuck there until you have your anchors in and then remove magnets. I probably have 50 on my fridge (up high so kids don't puncture their intestines).

I’ve got creaky steps and it’s driving me bananas. I was away and my dad made the call to do it himself instead of paying an extra $400 to get the stairs done proper.

Probably spent $1000 in material and time getting them ready only for them to creak.

How did you fix the creak @Hardwrkr13? Take the step off and just reinforce it?

As for awnings I’d love one over the back deck. After the noon hour it’s impossible to sit on the deck as it’s stupid hot. So we have to move to the gazebo.

We’ve considered both fabric and fixed fibreglass but $$$.
