Yes we did a covered 24x18ft deck which is where the bbq is. Looking forward to bbq’n without having the nosey neighbours watching.
Well, I don't need to worry about nosey neighbours. I wouldn't want to block any view of the woods, but on the part I plan to stick out the end with the appliances, it wouldn't block much view.Yes we did a covered 24x18ft deck which is where the bbq is. I had open sides and it wasnt an issue. Even with the high ceiling the bbq never needed a cover, just some light snow on it. The lower ceiling would mainly be for comfort for me. I'll try to dig up a picture, I had 4' of bar for a convenient spot to put a drink or lean on and a 4' bench to have a seat.Good point. I have some steel panels left from a refit at the soccer field that I will use for the roof. Trying to decide if I want to put something half-way up the sides for protection as well. I get out about once a week, even in the winter, but it's a real pain cleaning the snow and ice off, especially trying to get the cover off the Traeger.
Hose and pipe should have the same Id so the same flow rate no reason why a hose can't flow as well a a pipe. You might not want to use 30 feet of hose, they say it can impact the amount of pressure you get at the BBQ and it won’t work as good or as hot, better to hard pipe as much as you can.
.
The flipside to that is I know someone that went out to pre-heat their BBQ one winter day (which sits at the end of their house with no visibility from inside) and realized that it had been on high for weeks after turning it up to burn off food stuck to the grille and then forgetting to turn it off.never running out of gas with NG is worth every penny the hookup guys charge to run piping.
First thing I do once the food is finished is basically cut the flow of gas, and let the remainder of the line burn out prior to walking away. The flipside to that is I know someone that went out to pre-heat their BBQ one winter day (which sits at the end of their house with no visibility from inside) and realized that it had been on high for weeks after turning it up to burn off food stuck to the grille and then forgetting to turn it off.
A few friends have and love their komodos. Similar to green egg, half the money. They dont like to be left without use though. One opened his after a few months of non-use and mold had filled the entire cavity. So gross. Cleaned as well as possible, then ran it super hot for a while to sterilize, then cooked dinner.Another couple of counter points...
I move the BBQ around. Normally it sits on the patio at the side door as it is closest to the kitchen. If I am having a bunch of people over I will move it to where people are hanging going to be hanging out in the back yard. In winter I move it to the deck at the back door so I can sit in the sun room and watch the BBQ. Can't easily do that if you are on NG.
If we have a Texas size emergency situation NG may be down (very small chance corner case, almost moot but a point.....).
I solved the propane running out by having the second tank, but then I let both run out so I needed a three tank solution...... Less and less places fill propane tanks these days (pretty much just Costco in my area) but there are tank swaps all over the place (at double the cost). During COVID there was also a propane "shortage" so many of the swap places were out... all are additional advantages to NG.
I am actually in the market for a second used BBQ. I have a "normal" size Weber Genesis, covers 95% of my needs but there are times I need more cooking area or two cooking temps, took a serious look at it but not interested in green egg. That can solve both my points above as having one of each....
Same happened to my BIL's Big Green Egg....left it for a few months during their home renovation. Opened it up and it was disgusting.A few friends have and love their komodos. Can anyone buy these hoses or they need to be by an HVAC contractor? I’ve got quick connects on mine so should be an easy extension.I'm on NG and have a 15, and two 30ft hoses , I can hook them together and move the BBQ to a nieghbors house if required. Thier is a wood pizza oven that could make a meal in a pinch if the gas utilities ever go out, which in my last 30yrs of memory has happened zero times.
I can attest if you leave the NG bbq on it will keep about an 8ft radius clear of snow till you find it in January, after an 11 day vacay. Bill was barely a blip on the radar.
Can you post the link for the hose, I can’t find a natural gas hose in that length, I would like to move my NG BBQ as wellCan anyone buy these hoses or they need to be by an HVAC contractor? I’ve got quick connects on mine so should be an easy extension.
EDIT: never mind seems like 20ft extensions are available at CT and HD.
Had one for the trailer a long time ago. Didn't take too long before it started leaking. Might be better if you're not constantly connecting and disconnecting it.Can anyone buy these hoses or they need to be by an HVAC contractor? I’ve got quick connects on mine so should be an easy extension.
