Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Restarted my insulation project I didn’t finish last year…fun times up on the roof all day.

Saw some shingles are starting to crumble, but overall roof looks good still.

Found where a raccoon likes to leave foot long logs…🤦🏻‍♂️
Awwww... You made a friend 😀

If it can get up there it will eventually find a way into the attic. It's easier to keep them out than get them out.

How do I keep that thing off my roof…that’s the main question.
I can't. Too many places to climb. Best I can do is harden their preferred entry points and hope they attack neighbours houses. In your case, the hardi may be slightly harder to climb than the brick and it should show scratches so you can find their path and work on blocking it.

There’s trees around they can climb and make their way over. I technically can’t cut those branches as they’re Peel Region Trees.

If a branch is cut and Peel region doesn't see it, was it ever truly cut? The answer is yes, but you hopefully catch my drift...

It broke in a storm. You trimmed off the sharp spike to give it a better chance to heal.
Nope…’even if it fell due to a storm you call us and we will bring people out to dispose’…

Is that a confirmed policy? My understanding is you can trim branches over your property regardless of who owns the tree. Just not butcher it so it harms the tree's health. But I am far from an expert on the matter.

Cutting back the branches may help with the raccoon. We had two 20 foot pine trees at the back of our house that raccoons were using to get on the roof, I cut them down and they moved on to someone else's roof. I liked the trees but I disliked the raccoons more.

MP has it right. They want you to contact them and they will inspect within 30 business days. Facepalm. They classify the trees as public and you can't touch them.

"No Person shall Injure or Prune a Public Tree without a valid Permit"

"“PUBLIC TREE” means a woody perennial plant (including its root system) which hasreached or could reach a height of at least 4.5m at maturity which is located on PublicProperty"

I spoke with the Region a handful of times, including yesterday, about removing the garden beds around the trees (a few pages back). They said it’ll be fine but don’t touch the roots.

They also confirmed I can’t trim the Peel Region trees and if I do and am caught them I can be fined.

How are they regional trees? So weird. You shouldn't have regional anything close to you and it should be Mississauga owned/controlled.

We used to have raccoons on a bit of our roof crapping away. Then they didn’t perch there anymore a few years ago. The only thing I changed was that for the winter I brought up an extension cord to run some roof heater cables to stop ice dams and hid the end under an overhang where the raccoons used to hang out. There’s a small light on the end of the cord and maybe a tiny hum when it’s connected to mains power. No more raccoons! Bonus.

I just call Mississauga and all areas ‘Region’ as it’s all Peel Region.

But yes, they are City of Mississauga trees.

Maybe get one of those plastic stuffed coyotes from bass pro shop and put on the roof , raccoons don’t like coyotes . Also great driveway nieghbour talking point .

Seriously... that is too much. I get we are trying to have green space etc, but with home prices what they are residences should have more control over them to mitigate risk. Plus doesn't the city have no money for baby sitting this stuff.

The more work they do, the more they can justify more staff, higher payroll and more tax. On the flip side, I am sure some people would brutalize the trees and it would take many years for them to recover.
