Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Oh I can do it on my own for sure. It's just that I don't have water coming in since we fixed the leak previously....

So what's the point?

Cousin had major water leaks so he rented an mini-ex, and then tore up the yard. But he did his entire house and no longer has issues.

About 5k in material compared to the 20k quote he got (this was 5 years ago).

My neighbour did it also BY HAND digging around his house.

Once the concrete is broken down...it's easy. Just painful.

If I ever need to do it....I'll just build myself a pool while I've got the mini-ex here (which my buddy did also as it was too expensive to get someone to come in! LoL).
Oh yeah, I remember that dig in the basement near the stairs. I guess no more issues. Good.
I've got a project lined up for next year, I'll put it out to the group once I've beginning to get into it, drains and such.

Well if you want me to come by and take a look to bounce ideas let me know.

Nice! My buddy built something similar as a 3 car garage + apartment this year.

Story checks out.

Anybody got an appliance guy? Looks like that washer of ours is going to fail soon and the bearings that appear to be the issue are probably beyond my capabilities.

Found a few videos online that show guys replacing those bearings. But it’s literally a full tear down.
How old is the washer?
If its more than 10 years I would probably just replace it. Considering the damage and what it will take to repair it.

If buying new I use Faulkners on Lakeshore. Great customer service, local business and competitive pricing. Cheaper stuff and scratch and dent is downstairs.

If for someone to repair, it is a crap shoot. I just do my own repairs IF it can be repaired, Crawford on the Queensway has been good to me for parts.

Foundation Update
Entire front of house dug to base of footing.
Entire front foundation "tarred" along with footing and a rubber sheet applied to footing.
Dimple sheet applied to entire front, one piece.
Top of dimple sheet is finished in a trim, drip edge kinda thing.

Front and side downspout will run under ground in hard pipe and exit about 6 feet from corner of house, water will run down a slight slope.
Found some wicked cracks but nowhere near the water issue. Looks like we caught it very early, no water to be found, floor is not warm and dry.
Been running a dehumidifier for a few days but only collect a small amount of water, it is sitting right where we found the water on the floor.

Front of house will look a bit shabby until the warm weather comes then a new front step and walkway will be put it and all other downspouts will be trenched out.

When we dug and waterproofed at the back I waited a couple of years for the ground to settle before we put in the permanent interlock patio. After the interlock went in the ground settled a bit more so I got to do part of it again.

If he wants to speed things up and is planning on a structure as opposed to laid in place, he could put footings in now on the undisturbed soil. Backfill around sonotubes. Not ideal but with a cap on them you could probably wait to fill them until spring. Costs you some concrete but the structure would be stable.

If you do a search on YouTube you might find a video that would help.

A friend asked me to fix a switch in his refrigerator and after seeing the video I chose not to go down that rabbit hole.

The crazy part was a new switch would just snap into place but you had to do a massive housing disassembly to get the old one out. If it was my fridge the old one would come out with a Dremel and the new one in with a patch plate.

Agreed, I'm just laying a new walkway and crushed stone.
