Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

We had a deck extension added 1.5yrs ago (original section is covered) and this new area is starting to squeak. Upon inspection it looks like it’s mostly air-nailed with a few random screws added in (unless it’s all screws and suck very deep). If it’s indeed nailed would a single screw in the middle work or would it end up curling on the sides? Is there a better solution (not sure there’s enough room for two screws in each area).

Looks like the wood was very wet when installed so shrunk quite a bit afterwards. The squeak is the screws snapping as the wood dried and shrunk. Putting extra screws now will work but won't look so great and may split.

Depending how big it is, and how much work you'd like to do, I'd take the boards out one by one and flip them over then screw them in. This give the advantage of making the deck look like new as the underside will be clean and still have that fresh color.

Opened the pool today had a leaky return just last year. Now I can find the new gasket I bought for the life of me.

Popped the little heater on Friday afternoon. Pool was up to 82 today so kids went in.

Still using old free robot for now. When pool is up to temp and air is warm I will see if newer robot recovered from surgery.

Robot is up and running probably won't turn on the heater for a few days

I let the sun heat it up from 47 to 65. Used the heater to speed it up after that. Wanted to get the temp up into the 70's so the salt cell was happy. Once I was there, might as well let it run and make the wife and kids happy.

Any feedback on Airstone or other veneer stone for exterior use? I’m building a bbq island (not covered) and prefer to use a product without mortar. Design will likely require corner pieces on the ends and those will be thinner columns so I need a product that will work well (and can be cut) to look good that way.

Interesting as I was thinking of doing a cosmetic upgrade to the garden shed. It would mean gluing it to OSB. The alternate is a molded plastic fake stone that screws on like siding. Gluing to OSB isn't a turn on for me.

Hardi is great on sheds. Not quite as scmick as stone but really durable, looks good and easy enough to diy.

I bought enough JH siding for the house, and the shed. But now that I may be putting in a second shed...may run short, but will see. I added about 5% more for the house, and may be able to salvage enough to install on the big shed Kevin installed...and then also on the smaller shed I'm grabbing from my BIL when they demolish theirs.

So I've always had a kitchen drawer that never closed right. It closed like 98% of the way but I've always had to push it in the last 1/2" even though they are soft close. Thought it was likely just an alignment thing and because this is the least used drawer in my kitchen I never bothered too much with it.

Well today I decided to investigate further... Found the problem relatively quick

At least they are Blum

I have an account at Richelieu if needed.

And another wall completed, and ready for house wrap, strapping and trim!

Hoping the rain holds off as we can have 3 good days of solid progress.

I sealed the original entrance(well installed a one way door so the could leave but not enter). They busted another entrance. Sealed that one. Busted another one. Death to trash pandas. I tried to be friendly. It didnt work.

Edit:
And the bastard is in a different section of attic. Frig. Threw a radio playing AM in there.
Radios don't work. I found local racoons like Q107.

Who would lien the house? I doubt the injured worker could. You can't just slap liens on people that you hope owe you money. If you lost in court and were found liable, that's what insurance is for, hopefully you had enough. Again, even if you didn't have enough insurance I don't know if they can lien your house. Collecting civil debts is a nightmare. Court can say money is owed but there is no good process to get the bill paid if the debtor doesn't want to.
Poor sap down the street hired a cash contractor to grind dome big stumps out of his yard. The 2 illegals lost control of the stump grinder and it chewed off one guy's leg (bloody mess). Neighbours ins covered $1m, he was on the hook for $100k.

If the deck was installed correctly, all boards will be installed with crown up. If this is the case, a 3" screw installed at 30degrees in the center of each board will eliminate squeeks.

I dont like flipping boards, that puts crowns down which reduces longevity, increases squeaks, and increases trip hazard.

The racoon has left for now. Not sure why. Maybe am works? Maybe she didn't like me banging on her while she walked on the soffit. More cameras on the way. Bored of this. Will cover most of the attic with cameras set to alarm on motion in case one returns. Such a pain in the ass to access a few parts of the attic so it will be helpful to be able to keep an eye on things without needing to climb.

Ouch. That's why I carry more than 1M GL (and hire insured contractors).

Sadly, my kids hockey organization sent out a message that one of the coaches had taken a big fall at his side job as an arborist and didn't make it. Not sure on the financial implications to the homeowners but having a nice guy die in your backyard sucks.
