Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Anybody know what the current limit is for Orillia ? Asking for a friend…

In stupid zoning bylaws, you are limited to 10m2 per shed but are allowed 30m2 total. Someone posted a baller design before. Build two 10m2 sheds with a 10m2 pad between (with roof but no front wall). Great combination of inside and outside space.
A college in Barrie was going to build an enclosed walkway between two buildings when they realized it meant massive changes and cost due to codes. They built it it anyway but forgot the leeward wall.

I just checked Toronto and got:

3.7m to a point halfway up the surface of a pitched roof and 2.5m to the top of the walls or supporting posts.

My shed is about 10'-6" to the ridge board, 3.2 M. I was over the limit by the old standards and was thinking of a roof design change, mostly for the looks. The shed is due for new shingles and I don't know if the appearance trade off is worth the effort. Putting on new shingles is a days work and six or seven bundles of shingles.

If I was starting from fresh the new 160 SF option would be gold.

My conceptual shed design has a juliet balcony as I am allowed 4.5m tall. I was going to hinge the railing so you can slide things in the second floor. Sheds aren't allowed balconies in every municipality I have checked (maybe in obc too? I haven't looked there). If I get around to building it, I need to discuss with building department if a juliet balcony is a balcony. I suspect they banned them so a cantilevered group of people don't tip over a small shed. If I leave the railing off, it is no longer a juliet balcony, it is just a dangerous door.

My current plan is to take my 12X9 shed and covert it into a 17X9... Take down one wall and the roof, extend it out five feet, rotate the roof 90 degrees (peak is on front ie 12 foot side now, new will be on the sides). Leave the current french doors where they are and add a second door in the new wall for better access. maybe a couple of windows, whatever is on sale or clearance.

CoM just confirmed as I got a call from zoning department.

Shed can only be 10x10ft max, 3 total for a maximum of 30m2 on the lot.

Kids play structure counts as accessory building 🤬

The sheds can be built side by side and MUST be separated by an inch. Even if the roofs are touching, it’s counted as a single accessory structure.

Theoretically I can build a 10x10 beside a 10x10 and I’m within the regulations.

200sqft for the win!

Well maybe less…kids structure is a 5m2 or so, and gazebo is 90ft2.

I would ignore the playground. On the small chance they come after you, you hope the kids are getting old enough that you don't care about it any more. Build two 10x10.5 and call it a day (10 sq m allowed is 107.6 sq ft). Those plus the gazebo and you are under 30 m^2.

That’s what I’m thinking. $750 for the CoA filing and hearing. That would pay for majority of the concrete.

EDIT: forgot that my wife wants a pergola or another eating area in place of current shed.

May just leave it as an open spot with nothing overhead.

Clearing out a few trees in the woods to build the kiddos a playground my chainsaw (2yr old Champion 45cc) got finicky with three stumps left to go. No longer liked to be ran at high rpm when turned on it’s side. Spark plug and air filter fine. Pulled carb and blew it out in case of dirt and now it’s flooding when trying to start (maybe float now stuck).
I’ll drop it off to the local small-engine guy and see if it’s a quick cheap fix. Stihl MS250 might be in the cards.

You spelled MS261 wrong. Having used both the home gamer and professional stuff, I have a clear preference. Since I live in a subdivision now, I just have a farm boss. It is a heavy pig compared to the good saws with similar power. My brother has possession of the good saw (and come to think of it, maybe mine too, I haven't looked in a while).

Those saws don’t like to be used too long on the side.

When my dad was making live edge slabs he actually bought an automatic oiler for the chainsaw so it didn’t fail.

His previous one failed after too much work horizontally. The light duty ones aren’t made for extended periods of hard cutting.

This is from what he told me. I know nothing.

My usage is now mostly storm damage cleanup so for a saw that gets used briefly 1-2 times a year I don't need to drop $1000 on one. A $500 MS250 should be plenty.

I think I cleaned out the 4 local Home Depots of all their 5” TAPCONs this week.

Effing hell they’re expensive.

Got 16 boxes today. Hopefully they restock before I need more.

I would definitely check ihl (and maybe atlas). They often have much better prices (and more stock).

Price drops to 13.59/50 if you buy six or more containers.

Nice thanks! Right now I’m paying $33 for a box of 25. $500 gone today. Just need the flat head as I don’t want it protruding out of the wood due to siding being nailed in.

Dad found a few hundred shorter HILTI concrete screws which I will use on the 10ft walls as they don’t carry as much load. Got about 200 of them and they carry heavy load also.

HD is a go to store but I generally find better prices at Bolts Plus or Brafasco.

Is there a better DIY driveway sealer? Mine is due.
