Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

So Lowes have a sale event on range hoods. 25% off for Broan/Venmar/Mistral. Found a 650CFM hood made by Venmar but it has some poor reviews on the Lowe’s site. On the Home Depot site there’s an identical Broan hood for $100 more with pretty good reviews. I just found out that Venmar and Broan are the same company. This isn’t helpful.

Without looking at parts diagrams it's hard to comment. I know some sister companies that truly do make very different products (similar box but different guts) and some brand engineering (different knobs).

I think it’s the same factory in Quebec!

Ooh…the corners look different. Hmm.

I might think about a raised bed landscape on the right side of the garage, and a full width raised porch cross the front.

Why is there siding under the front window?

And where are you getting the seethru siding?
Theoretically, phase 2 of the project may have a covered porch/mudroom beside garage. Deck could extend from mudroom to corner under LR window but it would be slightly complicated to build it now given the phasing.

Wife wants a siding under the front window so I guess we have siding under the front window and brick at the wall between the door and window.

Personally I’d rather have siding between the front door and window, and brick under the window and on the column for a cleaner look.

🤷🏻‍♂️

$3.5/piece for 2x4x8 on Kijiji versus $3.9/each at HD....

Doesn't seem like it's even worth the effort to muck around with Kijijidiots for that type of 'savings'.

What's the general consensus of old Bell / telecom wires having above your backyard and connected to a defunct box on the wall?

I want it gone before I start throwing up insulation around the house...should I just yank it of or cut it at the source? don't want to screw the remaining neighbour's lines...but I also don't want it connected to the house.

Technically that is Bell's property so it should not be touched without their consent.

Are you sure none of it is being used for your house.

What internet service so you have now?

I'm with oioioi. Technically bell's property. If I wanted to do it without them, I would detach from my house and leave the coil on their pole. If you cut it, they could charge you. Hell, if you disconnect it and they find out, they could as a they would have to reconnect a future homeowner.

I dont blame you. They installed ftth here last fall and I am still on teksavvy dsl as I hate bell.
It's not hanging off a pole, it's off a birds nest of wires in the backyard cutting across diagonally to the house.

I don't feel like putting in a special trim piece around the Bell box for something that's unusable. Once the rain stops I'll remove all cabling from the house FROM the box.

As much as we all hate ____________ (fill in your least favourite provider) I wouldn't cut your ties with any of them.

It's sort of like future proofing. You never know what service or package they will offer in the future.

Hell for all we know the two monopolies could merge one day and become one huge monopoly.

Where is the Rogers line coming from? The front?

I called Bell and had someone come and detach the lines

Do what you want those F'rs can go to hell.
I removed my exterior cable box, and replaced with a better one with my own lock. ;)
But you'll just be bombarded with direct mail addressed to "homeowner" trying to get you back.

You and @GreyGhost are ruining all the fun.

I'm using Rogers right now. And never plan on using BELL.

You can cut it and bell won't know or care. If you do end up using bell in the future, you'll just have a frustrated tech since he has to run a new drop/enclosure/riser.

You would want to make 100% sure you cut the right line though since if you accidently disconnect a neighbours service and they can't make a 911 call in an emergency you'll end up in a world of hurt, and debt.
