In a word yes. Or glue a small block into the corner above your cut.View attachment 59145
I want to use a pair of these for a desk project but since they’re a bit too tall I’d like to cut about 5” from the base (kick plate area) as there’s about 6” total there. The concern I have is there’s a plastic corner piece stapled inside underneath in each corner in the way of the cut. Im assuming they’re there to hold it together while the glue dries and I’d be fine removing them. Sound about correct? I could glue the joints myself before pulling them out also.
I'd be adding more than 1" of insulation if I was doing this to improve thermals. No details on what's included sets spidey sense off. Housewrap and proper flashing? How does he deal with window sills needing extended?Got my first quote for siding of the house.
$55k for Sequoia siding, with 1" insulation. So by the guy's estimate...we're looking at about 150k for the Hardie siding as he said 2.5x.
He refuses to answer if there's trim included or not.
No details on any of the above, and doesn't want to come.I'd be adding more than 1" of insulation if I was doing this to improve thermals. No details on what's included sets spidey sense off. Housewrap and proper flashing? How does he deal with window sills needing extended?
Have you priced materials yet? That gives you a base price if you and your dad do the work. Based on a 55K quote, I expect he is thinking ~25K in materials. No details on any of the above, and doesn't want to come.
'I can measure it from google so no need for me to come by'
55k becomes 70k pretty easily.
No. But when I sent the quote to my dad he couldn't stop laughing. He'll be here tomorrow morning so we'll discuss it.Have you priced materials yet? That gives you a base price if you and your dad do the work. Based on a 55K quote, I expect he is thinking ~25K in materials.
Wow clearly they gave you a throw away quote. That's my guess. No details on any of the above, and doesn't want to come.

Everybody is so busy that proper tight quotes barely matter. Throw some mud at the wall and if it sticks, make time to get the job done.Wow clearly they gave you a throw away quote. That's my guess.
That's what I think also. But I have no basis for my statement except a feeling.Wow clearly they gave you a throw away quote. That's my guess.
Some people have no idea of pricing and a mud at the wall quote thins the herd. Why bother going to the site if the owner thinks in hundreds instead of thousands?Everybody is so busy that proper tight quotes barely matter. Throw some mud at the wall and if it sticks, make time to get the job done.
Historically the shops that cater to the truly weather are insulated from recessions. If there is an impact, they are the last to feel a downturn in the economy and the first to come out of it.If the contractors I know are an indication, the process of I’ll ask for the moon and take two stars quotes are dropping off . Big reno and kitchens are being dropped and cancelled as interest rates jump .

No veneering dept here or in house machining. We are booked through to early 2024.True but there isnt that many shops that do the uber high end, I work with few and they are just fine . Mr & Mrs Musoka or Miami just know the architects have come up with a stunning design and there are few places capable of pulling it off . Those shops are just fine , Its the 50-70k kitchen guys that are feeling it now.
when a shop has its own veneering dept is my barometer , and in house machining to make thier own hardware. Thats a small club that may not know a recession is on
I've used helical and concrete filled sono tubes. I prefer sono tubes.Alliston is 160 sq/ft. 15ft high, no permit.and clean

We used to restore marble floors, they are quite easy to clean up, just takes time because it's a whole floor process, you can't spot clean.A friend's marble bathroom floor was getting complaints from his wife. It turns out his aim isn't all that good and the floor was stained with no remedy.
He sold the house so no longer a problem. If his aim doesn't improve I'll keep it in mind for his condo. We used to restore marble floors, they are quite easy to clean up, just takes time because it's a whole floor process, you can't spot clean.
Piss staining is easy. 10 minute ammonia soak, then wet vac extraction till dry. Takes 5-10 cycles and each cycle takes an hour.
