Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I wish i had filled ALL the empty spaces under my shed.I have had lots of rabbits, groundhogs and skunks under there. Gravel would have fixed that.
Cousin had rats under his shed…then a skunk came by and killed the rats…cousin and skunk are best friends now. Family doesn’t bother the skunk (including dog) and skunk doesn’t bother the family…and no more rats.

Jack shaft Gdo installed, normal gdo uninstalled to free up some space for the lift. New opener has wifi which is mostly a gimmick but you can allow amazon prime to access your garage for deliveries. Interesting but nobody is allowed in the garage as I could lose a lot more giving randoms access than whatever amazon packages porch pirates steal.
I thought it was a gimmick also but being able lock it out or check status remotely is great as is seeing the open/close history. When we were away and sister in law was house sitting I could see that she remembered to close the garage door when she left for work (and drive into the door when she was there but that’s another rant)

I only have it on one door (and it's my door so the least likely to be left open).

I am surprised that they continue to advertise how quiet the opener is and package a dead bolt with it that is louder than any gdo you can buy. I dont really understand the requirement for the deadbolt, the opener seems to keep the door down just fine (although maybe something breaks at a certain level of force).

Main button was being finicky. Apparently it communicates using a protocol. Wiring was connected enough to power the button but not enough to pass control signals. I reused the existing wire and there was a crap splice. Fixed the splice and it started cooperating.

Very nice @jc100! Just make sure you close up any openings so some furries don’t make a home underneath!

On a serious note I was thinking of shoving some mothballs underneath. Just need to check to see if they will leech and affect the dogs. The dogs can't get under the deck but I'd be concerned about run off maybe.

Good reminder. I need to mothball the **** out of my shed. Everything edible is in plastic totes so those mofo squirrels are in for a surprise this year.

I agree with @GreyGhost and would recommend some fencing. Even lattice just to keep the fuckers out.

My buddy just filled the entire cavity with gravel so there’s nothing that can get in there.

Gravel would have been easier before he put the top on. It would take a yard or two so that would suck. Fencing can be carried back there in one trip.

Some small animal is trying to live in my attic. Suspect chipmunks but haven't found out how they are getting in. Tried to live trap them but their heads are apparently smaller than the mesh on my trap. Moved on to poisoning the mofos.

Mothballs do squat. Filling completely with gravel is the only fix.

Poison well leave them rotting where you can't retrieve them.

Yup. Hopefully they eat enough to dry out quickly. In case it is chipmunks, wife will be very upset with snap traps. Poison gives me plausible deniability (and can take out however many there are without needing constant resetting). Also, if air balance in house is reasonable, a death in the attack shouldn't smell in the house.

worked pretty well for us but they lose effectiveness over time so you need to replace them
"Moth balls" have two distinct chemical formulations. Napthalene or paradichlorobenzene. One or the other may be better at repelling animals but most people think of them as a singular entity so that could account for differences in experience.
