Ducati 1199 Panigale

....for those of us who mostly ride street!

Is it just me or is that a bad place to put an exhaust? I can imagine how hot it's going to be when you have to stand a red light with hot exhaust being pumped out onto your feet. Reminds me of the dodge viper.

It exits at the same place the older GSXR and the R6's exhaust's exit at.

I'm really excited to see the street version, I love v-twin superbikes...

But their claim of making more horsepower than the BMW is bogus, and that chart is nonsense. The 195hp listed is a generous peak hp number at the flywheel, if its at all representative of reality.

Regardless, it'll be a hot ticket.

Well if its got ~200cc more than everyone else, it should make more HP or torque.

For me I don't really need 1200cc

So on the right side your foot is supposed to be up. On the left side your foot will be down and in the "line of fire" so to speak.

Of course we have to keep in mind that the BMW does it with 25% less price, which in itself is a great acheivement by any standards.

The extra money for the Italian goes to keeping the world economy from collapsing. Good investment if you ask me :D

^ lol

whats so speical about this new frame??

Ummmm technology and design that is very rarely seen outside of competition bikes like MotoGP or high end low production bikes costing $50,000+. Never mind on a standard street bike ....Nothing totally amazing about it, sooner or later lots of bikes will be using this design...Its simple evolution of technology, things that were too expensive to manufacture for a street bike in the past, are now standard equipment...

But it's 2 cylinders and lots of revs short.. the inline 4s make more power because they have more revs to play with, generally speaking of course.

Nope. Won't roast your feet at all. Your foot on the ground is placed ahead of the exhaust exit. Exhaust vents at a rearward angle too.

"Needs" and "wants"...totally different and yet all too often confused.

Let me re-phrase that:

I would not need or want a 1200cc, 1300cc or 1400cc for that matter.

I don't understand how those guys can be classified in the same class when they have different amount of cc. Yes they have less revs but they have more torque, so they will have a torque advantage if they are racing in the same class

Same as MX competition, 250cc 2strokes compete against 450cc 4stokes....

Motors don't operate at peak torque rpm all the time and can be geared differently.

I think the 200cc handicap works out pretty well and the bikes end up being pretty evenly matched.

It's a handicap that was always given to 2 cylinder superbikes. It's acknowledged that they can't compete with equal displacement 4 cylinders. I'm personally not convinced that they need 200 extra cc but whatever.... Ducati has had a lot of pull with WSBK in that department.

Horsepower is king when it comes to racing. If you can rev higher and make more peak hp, you can have gearing to take advantage of it. 2 cylinders don't have the luxury.

Thats because they make the same HP. 2 strokes make more HP per cc and almost similar revs

My point was 2 totally different engine layouts and size, yet are pretty fair when pitted together...Same with the twins vs I4 IMO, no one really has a huge advantage over the other...So why not let them play together...

You're starting to sound like a race fan Johnny!
