Ducati 1199 Panigale

Brakes just create too much extra weight anyway. All you need is an engine, a transmission, a seat, some wheels and some clip-ons.

Sounds like the prices won't budge. Base model will still be 20k.

It looks tasty.

That exhaust... those tail lights... the rear shock..... aahhhhh

Yep, I think they realized that they reached the limit of what a steel trellis frame can do for them.

They pulled the conversion off in style! Although the real test will be how this bad boy looks in 1199 Streetfighter format!!! Hopefully for 2013 we'll see that..

Kind of disappointed the base model will not come with ABS, or as a added option. The S model is too hard on the wallet (at least for me). Would like to see more pics of the bike in other colors as well.

S1000, Fireblade, 1199.. damn which one is the king of literbikes 2012? Decisions decisions.....

This thing is gonna be top dog for sure. Of course it won't unseat the BMW from most peak HP but that number is largely useless for those of us who mostly ride street! Can't wait to try this thing. Also, can't wait for some dyno runs!

Wow! That was some sweet bike-porn. I need a cigarette.

I do think this bike might be a bit too much for the average rider, especially for the street. As a replacement for the 1198 it looks like it will pip it on every level, but as a street bike... there are a lot of expensive systems to go wrong that won't be likely to actually help you in that environment. And the cost... ugh.

For all that kvetching, good on Ducati for having the huevos to build it.

gotta pay to play

BMW s1000 RR is rated at 193 hp and 82.5 lb/ft of torque, Ducati 1199 is slated to be 195 hp and an earthmoving godly 98.5 lb/ft of torque. Ofcourse i agree we have not seen a dyno chart yet to really know how close they actually will be, but why do you think it will not be in the same league as the S1000? I think and i might be wrong that hp to weight ratio it will be in a class of its own but only time will tell.

The BMW actually puts down 180+ hp at the rear wheel. That's only about 5% shy of their 193hp rating, which is unheard of in the industry.

The 1198 puts down 150rwhp. I'd expect the 1199 to be in the 165rwhp range, which in itself would be incredible. But we won't see it surpass the inline 4s for peak horsepower. The 195hp claimed by Ducati is undoubtedly rated at the flywheel.

Regardless, peak HP numbers don't matter (to me anyway). The torque and overall midrange of this bike should be exceptional.... then again, they've oversquared the engine and word is that it's gonna be peakier than we might expect.

Ah ic your point, makes sense. Lets wait for the dyno results to see what kind of monster ducati has managed to stuff into this monoque. Even dyno readings will not give a clear indication unless they are done back to back with both bikes. Same dyno, same day, same temp etc etc. Not that these bikes are really built for it but i wonder what the 1/4 mile time would be like on the duc. Do you know what the BMW does ? Ofcourse we have to keep in mind that the BMW does it with 25% less price, which in itself is a great acheivement by any standards.
