Drive Right. (GTFO of the left lane.)

even in Driver Training Manual it says "Respect the flow of traffic and move to the right lane to allow passing"
That part might not have been translated into all the other languages.

Fully agree with the OP. Damn nuisance!

I would have no issue whatsoever with much stricter licensing requirements and every driver having to be re-tested on the road every five years. And much stricter certification requirements for driving schools, including emergency maneuvers, and rain and snow driving. I don't even care how much extra tax revenue it would cost (or how much a license would end up costing, like in Germany). If you fail, pay for a driving course again. If you fail again, you lose your chance at driving for five years. If you can't afford all the testing and licensing requirements, take public transit or live somewhere closer to your job. Driving should be a privilege, not a right.

This would make our roads safer and less congested as well. It'd have the added benefit of reducing pollution caused by congestion and further kick start our public transit planning.

Edit: Just noticed Apollo95's post above mine. Agreed completely.

I believe this to be probably the best thread on GTAM in quite some time. Love the cop moving the dumb-*** over and agree that if they were to focus on fixing this we could sort it out in no time -- look how long it tool the average citizen to "learn" to move over a lane when passing a stopped/lighted up emergency vehicle!

When I'm in a REAL rush, I use the middle and right lane(s) to weave through traffic - adjust to your surroundings :p

I completely agree with OP. Leftlaners FTL!

When I'm on the bike and pass them in middle lane. I turn around, point at them and then point to the middle lane (behind me). Some just give me finger....oh well.

So our OP wants everyone in the most dangerous lane - brilliant. If you are travelling through - not exiting then leave the right lane to those that are entering and exiting.

Yes moving over if you are not with traffic in the left lane is good etiquette but it remains that the left lane is safest tho by far the fastest which is not comfortable for some drivers and riders as tailgaters lover that lane even if the cars are stacked up 20 deep ahead.

Hey MacDoc,

OP here, it sounds like you've also given this a fair bit of thought. I would disagree about the safest/fastest lane, because over all traffic risk is a game of whack-a-mole. The people camping in the left lane are pushing their risk on to everyone else by blocking our emergency "out." The right lane has more people coming in and out, but with a 2-3 car following distance that's a non issue.

For motorcyclists, we know that the statistical majority of accidents are "single vehicle," and on corners, therefore the data would show the outer lane is in fact the most dangerous one - it's where the wall is.

The only reason the left lane seems like the fastest is because the deutsche-bag camping in it up ahead is preventing everyone diagonally to the right and behind him from passing - so of course it's going to seem "faster."

A lot of good points but so far I have not seen anyone mention the fact that there's no passing on the right in EU.
With stricter enforcement and no passing on the right there's a lot to be gained in safety and speed.

Basic lane courtesy = the law = if you're in the left lane and a faster vehicle is coming up on you regardless of your/their speed you get out of the way.

Just because you wanna camp and just because the law isn't being enforced, doesn't mean that you have to be a penis about it.

^THIS!!! Makes me crazy that people will complain "Oh, well stop speeding"... Hate to break it to them, it it the Law NO MATTER WHAT LANE YOU'RE IN. You are required to move out of the way of faster vehicles approaching from behind.

Being a schmuck about it just makes people potentially angry and/or reckless trying to get around you on the right, possibly causing a more serious situation.

Just a quick rant here. Please tell your families.

1. No matter how fast you think you are going in the left lane, you are always in our way when we need the lane to pass someone. Pls use it to pass then GTFO.

Nobody likes a slowpoke in passing lane but for the life of me I don't get it with some who don't want to cap the top end speed. This bullroar with the faster vehicle approaching from behind having the right of way no matter how fast the first vehicle's going is retarded. Like it or not it's a community event. Who signed up to be buzzed at a 50km/h speed differential? Would you go 50km/h over thru a school zone or past a road crew? I sure hope not. Will tell family soon.

next time notice the cars in lane #1...minivans, toyota corolla, and chevy cavalier. It would def be frustrating owning a Lambo or Porsche.

That's funny, cause whenever I see a Lambo, Ferrari, Maserati, or other exotic car on the street/highway, they're going slow.

I want to hear them open it up but they never do :-(

That's because they probably opened it up and got hit hard by tickets already. They can't afford more! (I'm in that situation with the bike, haha.

That's why I cruise in the right lane at 110 or 115 most of the time.
