Drive Right. (GTFO of the left lane.)

Where's MacDoc to come tell everyone they should drive/ride in the middle lane, even though the left is statistically the safest.

I love driving/riding between 100-110 in the right lane because I just about never have to pass anyone.

Until you get the common idiot "merging" in front of you going 60km/h. Many don't get the concept of merging with traffic which is why I commonly see so many of them stopped at the end of an on ramp (Keele & Hwy 7).

Gotta love it when get stuck behind someone in the passing lane crusing at 100km/h... >.>

Reason why i love riding a bike. You dont need much room to get around them, and passing them is quite quick and painless.

Is this bc you're getting passed bc thats as fast as the bike goes? ;)

If there is space to move to the right I do. Any other time I am passing everyone in the left lane. If a faster vehicles come up behind me I will move over into the slower right lane. If there is lots of space on the right I will pass on the right just to prove a point.

As such I don't worry about it. It is what it is.

What comes across in this forum is "Get the F* out of my way so I can speed as fast as I want." This, too is your prerogative. I'm really not sure who is more self-centered.

Bang on.

While I too chafe at being stuck behind a left lane bandit on the rare occasion I leave home late I don't mind admitting what the real issue is.

I don't think that this forum deserves to be painted with the same brush.

It's getting so bad out there, that I consider slow driving people a lot more dangerous/unpredictable than the ones who do consistently 20 or more over. The people who drive slow or park themselves in the left lane are the ones who are more dangerous. I don't mind moving over to someone who does 140 or 150 or whatever on 400 hwy, because they are not endangering me more than the people who do comfortably 100 and thinks they are cool or don't know any better.

Once, long time ago, driving on a german hwy, 4 lanes available somehow I am in third (not the fourth!) doing buck 140km/h in an old car (pedal on the floor, 4 people in ... LOL). A cop cars pulls next to me and politely shows me where I belong. I remember it so vividly today ... best lesson I got, I can tell you that. That's exactly what these people need .... not someone doubting the people who want to move by them driving faster. This is the mentality which kills the concept of left lane.

More dangerous because? Because? Speed differential. What's the upper limit on speed for the hiways in Canada? Not Germany, Canada. It isn't 140kmph per gentlemans agreement. Look it up sometime.

Basic lane courtesy = the law = if you're in the left lane and a faster vehicle is coming up on you regardless of your/their speed you get out of the way.

Just because you wanna camp and just because the law isn't being enforced, doesn't mean that you have to be a penis about it.

I agree and I do and I'm not. Take a look at it logically. We're trying to move an ever increasing volume of vehicles thru a given space. Reserving 33 1/3% or 50% of a lanes for those that always want to go faster than those in front isn't going to solve that problem. Those "camped" in the "fast" lane are no more of a problem than those who push, push, push. Leave early and chill.

I agree that everyone should keep the left lane for faster moving vehicles.

A couple years ago I was in Texas and drivers would always move over for faster vehicles. On 2 lane roads they would even move onto the shoulder to let you pass!

This is a huge problem here and I see it all the time.
....and it IS part of the driver education. I was taught in driving school to immediately move to the right when possible, and it was on my M test too.

In regards to police enforcing it, I agree it should be.
I was at court once and they were dismissing a ton of "Failure to move to the Right" offenses. Maybe it's hard to make it stick?

I absolutely share the sentiment with the OP. I've been some places and GTA is the worst I've seen for camping on the passing.

I haven't read all the posts but definitely one problem that I see is those HOV lanes. Some people just cruise on the left, waiting to get over into HOV and some slower drivers get off of it, blocking the passing lane and slowing everyone down. IMO, HOV lanes totally f'ed the flow of traffic on the highways that have them.

Other than that it's the usual ignorance, self-entitlement, lack of training and enforcement.

First the Germans, now the Texans. Great. How about HWY 5 between Waterdown Rd. and Third Line in good old Canada? Two lanes in either direction packed like sardines. Pushing like crazy in the fast lane, weaving to gain ground only to be caught at the next light. I wouldn't trade driving tips with those twits any more than the left lane campers.

The trouble with that logic is it ignores the fact that people who drive left are forcing EVERYONE ELSE to go at THEIR speed, and if you can do the math, technically everyone must go much slower than the speed of the blocker. There is nothing self-centered about pointing this out. People who block traffic do not save lives, they wast parts of millions of others.

The simple fact is that traffic is better for everyone if people drive right. If someone is camping, honk and flash your lights. You are doing everyone else on the road a favour. If you let people get away with it, they will keep doing it.

So I must assume you take your advice, correct?
You always ride in the slow lane?

Oh this means when your on the road everyone should get out of your way... :D

Actually, I drive in the right lane as often as possible, and when I come up on someone, I pass them in the middle. Sometimes I use the left lane, but only to get past someone camped in the middle lane, and then it looks like multiple lane changes to get around people who are driving poorly. I also signal for 2-4 seconds every time unless it is an emergency maneuver, then I signal for a 1-count during my shoulder check.

Signalling every time makes the difference between a decisive driver and a dangerous, unpredictable r^etard.

You should know that it's neither illegal to drive slow (the speed limit) in the left lane, nor is it illegal to pass on the right. Cops won't enforce anything because there are no rules to enforce it. Traffic enforcement (or lack thereof) isn't what breaks traffic in Toronto, it's pure and simply lack of infrastructure. There is no magic bean other than to build more roads and subways.

I hate all the wankers who cruise in the passing lane. It's so the GTA thing

This is exactly wrong. Camping in the left/middle causes congestion, which causes dangerous driving conditions. If everyone went exactly the speed limit there wouldn't be a problem, but it takes just one dufus to go 95 in the left lane to really bung it up for a while.

Oh, is it? On a 2 lane road, for example, should fully 50% 0f available lanes be reserved for those that need to go faster than whoever is in front of them? These faster people aren't 50% of commuters. That's a very inefficient use of available space.
If the roads are jammed up jelly tight, the left lane campers are less of a problem that the pushers. If out in the boonies the left lane camper, while annoying, shouldn't be an insurmountable obstruction.
