So the estate of Dr. Seuss has decided to stop publishing certain books due to insensitive material.

And now people are stating these are 'banned' and apparently have shot up in value...

They're not even banned by any government, panel, oversight committee or anything as such.

But I guess people will think anything is worth big bucks.

I didn't catch all of them, but so many posted as 'banned'.
 
Pretty sure these are in no way classed as rare books. There have to be hundreds of thousands of them. People are dumb.

Talking of dumb..tweets are being sold now. Despite being in the public realm, Jack Dorseys first tweet is being sold for $2mill US.

You can, but it's the same as a homerun baseball. People take pride in being the owner even though it is the same as millions of other baseballs except it has a CoA and a story. You are buying the CoA and the story, even if the intrinsic value of the object is close to zero.

yup....but if you’re stinking rich and have too much money to burn you can pay for the “token” that says you own the tweet...that no one cares about. It’s about the dumbest thing I’ve heard for a while. You could sell a post on here the same way if you feel so inclined.

In fact...this post is for sale. Starting at $1mill. Very reasonable. It will go very well with an avocado toast breakfast and a safe space.

This just proves how people are dumb and spread miss information without looking into the issue, and immediately post "offended" "banned" and such non sense... :rolleyes: (I've seen such plasterd all over FB)
COVID needs to be resolved sooner then later so people can stop being less dumb.

Most of the people I've seen discussing this are not right wing. I've seen one post on it from a right winger. Two if Mimico is one. Many seem to be trying to stir the pot. As far as the people buying the books, I think many are speculators. It would be nice if they got burned.

Edit: As for Mulberry St. - I haven't even heard of the others - I believe that there was one character that was complained about.
 
I am not @jc100 Saw it on FB Marketplace and then dig into Kijiji and then shook my head so I posted it.

Im just surprised at the level of pricing for these items. The books aren’t banned, just not being published any further due to the estate decision.
 
People like to jump on everything. It was the publishing company behind Dr Seuss that decided to no longer license/make these books.
Whatever is in stores or out there is fair game.
No one pushed them to do it, I didn't see any news or outrage about these books prior to this news.

Also, I've seen the pages/references the only possible racist one was this:

the rest are all close stereotypical images of cultures but don't name or directly link the images. Dr Seuss books do have tons of inspired random made up animals and people so I don't see this as a problem.

my background is Chinese and although I am not offended by the picture/image, I can see how it can portray the wrong image for children.

Those are asking prices, if I had some, I might throw them up and hope for a win. I doubt many sales happen at those values.
