Dr. Seuss...

I understand Seuss, but what did Mr potato head do?

Anyone hear old enough to have had a Mr PH set where you supplied your own potato?

They used to sell Mr and Mrs potato heads. This was probably just a branding exercise to reduce sku's. Now they only need one accessory kit. Also avoids any potential blowback for not providing a non-binary gender potato.

How many genders do potatoes have for effs sake....I must be too old to understand.

Yup. Had one of those as a kid.
Mr PH wasnt inclusive to all the other genders. I just bought my granddaughter (18 months) the Mr and Mrs PH set. She loves it.
Edit. She can mix and match all the parts. Mustache, hairdo etc etc. Ya, it's a made up problem. I guess it needs to be marketed as tranny to be inclusive.

Since the answer is constantly changing, by eliminating gender from their branding, they don't need to care anymore. There can be two or three or 1000 and they can just keep selling the same product no matter what people expect.

People like to jump on everything. It was the publishing company behind Dr Seuss that decided to no longer license/make these books.
Whatever is in stores or out there is fair game.
No one pushed them to do it, I didn't see any news or outrage about these books prior to this news.

Also, I've seen the pages/references the only possible racist one was this:

the rest are all close stereotypical images of cultures but don't name or directly link the images. Dr Seuss books do have tons of inspired random made up animals and people so I don't see this as a problem.

my background is Chinese and although I am not offended by the picture/image, I can see how it can portray the wrong image for children.
The original wording was different and would be considered more offensive. Looks like there were a couple of attempts at rewrites.

*news station ....... This just in - Tom Brady accused of being racist for winning the Superbowl during black history month.

The "Chinaman" one and that image i have here are kinda... yiesshhh...

Being depicted to look like animals im not too sure about... or the eskimo fish that has the same facial trait as the eskimos (which a lot of inuits don't like being called)...

But it's not Dr Seuss being cancelled its these specific books, by the actual editor

There was a book written in the 50's aimed at children's hygiene featuring kittens called "Nobody wants to play with the Smelly pussy". Its now in print again as a novelty.

Dr. Suess will be back

Or for simple adults.

The company I worked 50years ago for hired a diesel mechanic from the Caribbean and he wanted to see an Indian Reservation with teepees. Now it would be referred to as a First Nations reservation but even then they didn't live in teepees. I don't know if there are still some un-travelled Americans with strange concepts of Canada.

50 years ago, I believe there was a fake fort on one of the highways where you could take your kids to go and play cowboys & indians, along with a big teepee display. We never went, so I'm not sure, if kids were limited to cowboy only, or exactly how it worked.

Edit: I just say a post claiming a NYT reporter wrote an article about Pepe Le Peu promoting rape culture. Might be worth a think.
