Influencer making a video crying about being ousted.
Hotel not understanding current marketing platforms. The rant about who's paying for all this?
They've both pandered to their demographic basically:
- influencer to their followers/aspiring influencers hoping for free stuff.
- Hotel to other old schoolers that don't care for these social media/instagrammers
I read this to my daughter weekly haha. my belly has some way to go to match up.
Same here, it is not like it is a huge number of people and many also get confused by metric and at the time watching TV news.... I worked in Hotels in NF back in the day so I actually got to talk to some of the very few that did this.
"27 degrees" in Toronto watching Canadian news on cable, that is below freezing.... except it is actually just about 80°F
What's the difference between an influencer and Shaq O'neil being paid to endorse Buick?
Does that hotel cater to the crowd that follows influencers? I somehow doubt that people with serious money follow some relatively unknown person. How many burger flippers follow the rich and famous but could never afford to shop where they shop. "Paris Hilton said your hotel was fabulous. Will you price match my Motel Six coupon?"
If you pay for an ad you get to chose the spokesperson, what they say, who the message gets beamed to, at what time and the media. You decide the number of repeats.
I think the issue here was more of the ‘influencer’ basically saying that she’ll give a positive review if she gets something free.
Technically that’s no longer an honest review as she’s receiving / being paid off to positively review the hotel.
Personally I wouldn’t go that far but say ‘Sure you can stay here. Pay full price, here’s a code. Anyone uses that code I’ll give you £X as you directly caused them to come here to our hotel and this is my way of saying thank you.’

Good idea but most "influencers" are not business minded. They are delicate flowers that must be constantly coddled or they will throw a temper tantrum.
I think we run in quite difference circles. The amount of young, dumb but wealthy 'influencers' are high and all of them love travelling for the content.
Fyre fest is a prime example of this and the amount of money companies pay these days for even just a tweet or instagram post reflects this.
Not arguing against old school advertisements but where are the big youtubers revenue coming from? ads from view counts.
This 'influencer' doesn't have the followers or pull to warrant a free stay in my garage but there are those out there that are worth it for the possible demographics they can reach.
Really hard to find the line, who is just an influencer and who is a legitimate spokesperson?
Social media is great for really targetting specific demographics as well. Selling makeup? Find a well known makeup tutorial youtuber or instagrammer.
If i was better looking, more articulate and had the patience, youtube would be a great revenue stream.
Well it depends on context... Shaq did something to achieve his fame and influence. Most "influencers" achieved their fame and therefore influence by being an influencer....
In another context, what difference does it make if they get paid to endorse something and some fool buys it just because of their paid endorsement. All that assumes they have a contract and are getting paid.
In yet another context, give it to me free if you want a good "review" that is blackmail....

I sent her an email at the Star last fall after he broths jerky rant. I asked her how she resolved culturally appropriating a common white Anglo name (Evelyn) to replace her Chinese given name.That is her shtick. She's always harping about some (perceived) cultural misappropriation, or something. A couple of months ago it was about white people selling broth.
Went to find the tweet, then I remembered when I saw it 4 months ago. Oh yeah...........?
All I got was Ann auto reply thank you.
