By all accounts the current administration south of us wants to put in place some new and large tax cuts, but they are running an epic deficit... So massive cuts to the government workforce. Attempt to collect massive tariffs. And whatever to attempt to offset the cost of the tax cuts but none of this is likely to go towards a balanced budget or even more so to pay down their national debt.

I think we--well most of us--have a pretty good understanding which income groups are going to make out like bandits.

If those groups are already paying zero tax, what's the next step? I won't be shocked if they get tax rebates for GDP or job creation. An actual negative tax bracket for billionaires.

You assume they are lowering expenses. I assume they are reallocating and keeping almost the same cashflow. Time will tell who is correct.

DOGE has a reach goal of $2T in savings and a realistic expectation of saving $1T/year. That doesn't erase the deficit, but it cuts debt service substantially.

They are at $55B now, that itself is a very big number - not in terms of the US budget, but none the less a very big number.

That assumes they bank the savings and don't award Musk/Bezos/Zuck $500K for every job they created. That would be 1T transferred to those three.

None of DOGE’s figures are independently verified. All of this is a ridiculous stunt for the feeble brained.

Hell I know people that worked here for many years and went to Poland / Europe and are just collecting their pensions, OAS, and CPP while overseas.

This is perfectly legal to collect OAS and CPP as long as you tell Canada you have emigrated to Poland. OAS rules change if you lived less than 20 year in Canada after you were 18.

I see no issue with it because we worked for it, contributed to it, and who cares where it’s used up? Hell I plan on doing that. Maybe not full time, but spend a good portion of my retired years in Poland with cousins.

In fact, the US census data in 2023 shows there are 134,000 Americans aged 99 and over and SSA indicates that there are 86,000 people aged 99 and over receiving benefits.

I'm pretty sure that some of the 86,000 are dead and their families are continueing to collect pensions they are not entitled to.

But contrast this to the implication there are 21 million age about 100 getting pesions vs, the actual of about 86,000. Is this massive difference in numbers explainable as a minor discrepancy or an honest mistake............, or an intentional contrived BS story to whip up the MAGA crowd into a frenzy?

Perhaps you are implying that 21million are receiving benefits... Musk said there are 21 million 100 and over still listed at living, I believe that implies the Administration was not diligent in making sure dead people are marked dead. Considering there are only 10 or so Americans over 110 years old, it might be worth a call to see whether they are still eligible for their $22K/year. What would that take - 1 day for a clerk?

The point here is that the data is creates questions, and generally speaking in gov't agencies when there is smoke, there is fire.

Remember DOGE is on the hunt for inefficient bureaucrats.

Spotting it is easy. Very few times has there ever been authority to drop the bomb. In the vast majority of cases, anyone trying to disrupt the sleepy fiefdom is told to get in line and then driven out.

That isn't even close to being proof that there is no large-scale fraud going on in the US WRT receiving benefits that people are not eligible for. US census data does little to nothing to disprove the statements that DOGE has made regarding USAID.

No, I need proof that none of these claims are true.

The reality distortion field around Trump and his haters is unreal. People just make @#$% up, even if it has a grain of truth in it, everything is apparently the apocalypse around the guy, and I'm now remembering how sick of it I was last time, especially given that the same thing is now happening in Canada. This is coming from a guy who does his best to pay little attention to all the crazy wafting up from the south.
