Does this happen to any one else on gtam?

Most interesting moment for this year was almost getting smoked by a kid in a driver's education car -- complete with signage on the roof.
Traffic at the north end of Waterloo is atrocious at the beginning of rush hour, made worse by construction on the expressway. I'm on the expressway, coming to a merge ramp. Get ahead of driver's ed car, to make sure she (and the instructor) see me. Traffic on the left, can't move over. Traffic in front slows down, so I do likewise. Driver's ed car starts moving into my lane with me right beside the driver's door. Eesh.

I'm generalizing here but I find VW, Subaru and sometimes Audi drivers to be the worst. They think they can drive and have no consideration for others. Whether I'm on the bike or in my car doesn't matter. Really irritating. While I like some of these cars, they tend to attract a lot of egotistical owners who think they're hot ****.

Was this one of the infamous Brampton Driver's Ed "Skools"?

Buddy's dad saw me cruising on the highway in his new Lambo Aventador (first one in Canada) this past Sunday .....it was worth it :p

What was worth it? What did you accomplish?

I was in my car and a guy on a Busa pulled up beside me giving me head nods and revving the throttle. I thought what's the point? Ya We both know you're faster.

Can't say I normally have people race me.

The ones that scare me are the ones that pull up at a light in the right lane and gun it off the line to try to get in front of me (when there are parked cars ahead in the right lane) and then almost ram me trying to get back in because I was actually going the same speed or faster than him. Don't get me wrong, I do the right hand lane trick too because normal traffic just accelerates way too slowly for my liking. However, in the off chance that the guy in the left lane matched my speed, I take my loss, stop behind the parked cars, and wait for an opening to get back in while I hang my head in shame because my attempt to get in front was an abysmal failure. I won't bother trying to make it back into the left lane unless I can do so with plenty of space around me so I'm not creating a hazard for anyone else (which is how I pretty much always drive/ride). It seems everyone else that attempts this on me, when I'm the one in the left lane, would rather just ram me than wait. Scary stuff. Has happened several times in both my car and bike.

Also, getting cut off by people not bothering to check their mirrors, blindspot, or use their signals happens about 20x a day for me. Completely normal Toronto driving. That's part of why I don't feel speed limits should be enforced at all. There is so much more dangerous stuff that happens regularly that is completely ignored by the police. In fact, probably a quarter of it that I see is by the police.

Also, the other day I was in the left lane stuck behind some dick going 110. Car beside me (on my right) matching my speed so I can't go around the slowpoke in front of me. Another guy comes up behind that car in the right lane and sits behind that car. Now I've got a few car lengths in between me and slowpoke but I'm not right on his *** because I'd rather not rear end him if he decides to slam the brakes for some odd reason. New guy in the right manages to creep up enough to squeeze between me and slowpoke. Then brake checks me and gives me ****** of gestures in his rear view mirror. I don't know wtf his problem was because all he accomplished was that he was now stuck behind slowpoke. I started to get off the highway at the point but before I did I noticed buddy still had to change back to his original lane to get around slowpoke so that was pretty pointless of him.

I hope cars aren't beating you off the line when you're riding. If so hang your head in shame.

I certainly agree with you with respect to how they enforce the speed limit, while ignoring far more dangerous behaviour that's also going on. Most of it is due to a combination of aggressive driving and selfishness. People whip up the merge lane to and beyond its end, and then force their way into traffic, playing chicken with the driver who has a right to be there. I've caught people moving just their eyes, to check me in their mirror, and then start coming over on me. SMDSY. If I don't see them looking for me then I have to get out of their way or be flattened, right?

And don't get me started on the morons who do this up the ramp from Lakeshore to The Gardiner, at York. OK, too late. They go up the merge lane, knowing full well it runs out in short order, then drive up into the breakdown lane before forcing their way in. No signal. No look. Nothing. I've almost put a couple of Audis into the concrete wall because I'd have had to stand on my brakes, risking being rear-ended, because the tools arrogantly thought that it was their Flying Spaghetti Monster given right to take away my lane, without prior notice.

Was that you in the deep blue Lambo doing less than the speed limit on Reesor Rd (60 kph) and Donald Cousens Pkwy (70 kph) about 9:30 Sunday am? We came up behind and waited for you to pick up the pace a bit on DCP. When the Lambo just sat there, we thought "why own it if you're not going to have fun with it", rolled on and enjoyed the big sweepers.

Don't get your penties in a bunch....we just did friendly pulls when know one was around. Not every day you see Aventador pulling up beside you on the freeway.

If this is happening that frequently; you're doing something wrong. I'd say it happens to me maybe once per ride... maybe once every two rides. Stop riding in/around people's blind spots? If you're good, you can usually avoid a blind spot pretty easily; even in traffic.

The second thing you mentioned there about police and enforcement is idealistic. They can't possibly enforce EVERY single driver error... unless they had permanent full-time monitoring of every vehicle - is that what you want?

Ontario is a "nanny state".. over regulation and too many rules have made driver's here rely more on the "rules" than common sense.

Get rid of ALL the rules and make it a free-for all. The bad drivers will get into too many accidents to afford insurance, and the good drivers will drive more cautiously and pay more attention. The dangerous drivers will die #darwin

....what?

Google 0-60 on a Nissian 350, or Audi TT. Hell, there's the BRZ, FRS and Genesis which are even cheaper now.

Then search up the timings on Ninja 250; the Ninja 250, isn't that bad. Why are you mentioning Civics and Mazda3s?
BRZ and FRS are handling cars with almost zero torque. Wouldn'tssurprise me if many normal passenger cars beat them in a drag race off the line. Heck, until my boost kicks in my measly 90 HP diesel I used to have would probably accelerate faster thanmy WRX .

Yes the people that use merge lanes or cut into turn lanes after bypassing the whole line of people that were politely waiting their turn drive me insane. I'm trying to block them constantly every day as I make my left onto Allen or trying to go down St. Clair at Keele.

Like I said, I don't race and, as much as the maneuver s kind of aggressive, I'mtrying to do it safely . That means I'mnot racing off the line as fastt as I possibly can as that could be dangerous. I just go a little quick. If someone pulls up in a sports car and burns rubber trying to beat me, I just let them go. I also don't want to pick up too much speed when there's a parked car like 6 ft past the intersection and changing lanes within the intersection is illegal so that leaves me 6 ft to change to the left at a high rate of speed.

Treat every red to green as a race light. Your objective is to get to the speed limit+5/10 as fast as possible.

=P It's not racing then!

I guess your not familiar with HTA 172.

Stop in font of them, get off bike, watch their eye-whites appear, raise gauntlet glove (fist), watch car back up and peel away. People who do this are generally cowards.
