Does this happen to any one else on gtam?

When did base model Honda civics and Mazda 3's become entry level sport cars????

....what?

Google 0-60 on a Nissian 350, or Audi TT. Hell, there's the BRZ, FRS and Genesis which are even cheaper now.

Then search up the timings on Ninja 250; the Ninja 250, isn't that bad. Why are you mentioning Civics and Mazda3s?

usually i just ignore them, they get bored and life goes on. there are odd times when they cut me off and i get ****** and cut'em off though, but i never brake check them after since if they lose the brake check game, i'll be under their car, if they win, they'll just keep tailing me, so i just accelerate away.

I've become convinced that some people just have a stupid competitive streak, that makes them want to 'win the race' on public roads. They lock onto an easily recognizable target as their 'competition', be it a motorcycle, Euro car, or big SUV/pickup, and then when they see it go by them, they figure that they aren't getting where they want to go as quickly as they should. That triggers their overtaking reflex and makes them drive like complete morons. Had that happen to me, this morning, on the 427. An idiot in the fast lane saw me about to overtake him in the second lane, so he sped up until he couldn't see me anymore. Once he slowed down again I passed him which triggered his slotting in behind me, then cutting back into the fast lane to speed off at maybe 40 Kmh faster than he had originally been going.

Then there are the ones who see a motorcycle moving through traffic, somewhat faster than the average, and slot in behind to follow. These people don't seem to understand that 2 metres off the rear wheel, at 100+ Kmh, isn't a reasonable following distance. Had a Subaru do that to me last week. I generally get all the way over to the right lane on the 401 westbound, past the airport, because that lane moves much better. The Subaru driver cut in behind me as I passed, then rode my rear wheel from 427 to Dixie. Unfortunately my camera battery had died by then, due to excessively long hold-ups in traffic. If someone does this to you you can usually get rid of them using the, "How do you boil a frog" technique; slowly reduce your speed until he can't help but notice that he's getting nowhere, fast, at which point he'll bugger off past you.

Not sure on the year of the OP's 250 but this is why I was looking at those cars:

08 250R 0-60mph in 7.72s http://www.mcnews.com/mcn/articles/2010JanIndex.pdf

2007 Mazda 3 S Touring 0-60 mph 7.2 http://www.zeroto60times.com/Mazda-0-60-mph-Times.html

2007 Honda Civic LX 0-60 mph 7.6 http://www.zeroto60times.com/Honda-Vtech-0-60-mph-Times.html

Looks like your entry level sport cars you listed would eat a 250

2004 Nissan 350Z 0-60 mph 5.2 http://www.zeroto60times.com/Nissan-0-60-mph-Times.html

2007 Audi TT 3.2 S-Line 0-60 mph 5.5

I have a 250 and I've taking it to 180 KPh (give or take 5%) easily, all stock (On a private track of course).

That awesome your 250 goes faster then the ones tested by professional riders........

It happens all the time but I usually let it go, not worth it. Car VS bike, car will always win (assuming they can catch up to you).

That's why I mount my drift carmera all the time! Now only if I can get another one for my rear just for those tailgaters......

Until last week, I'd never had anything of the sort happen. Then I got cut off twice in the same morning commute, and on Thursday had some guy ride my @$$ in town. I sped up, he sped up, I sped up more, he sped up more, I took a 90* turn at 65, he too a 90* turn at 65, I ended up in my lane, he ended up in oncoming traffic (no accident fortunately)...he didn't get back on my @$$.

As for being cut off, that doesn't bug me so much. I've done to others by accident, others have done it to me by accident (I hope). What really bugs me is when someone cuts you off, then motions at you as though it was your fault. You eff'd up, take responsibility for it.

Honestly just let them do what they're gonna do, and be diligent about leaving yourself a lot of space so their dickery doesn't kill you. If they're tailgating, move over a lane and let them pass. If you've got nowhere to go because traffic is tight, giving them a back-off gesture (it works, sometimes). If you know there's a moron beside you itching to race you off the line, don't look. If you act like you're oblivious they'll lose interest pretty fast. If you get cut off, don't let it bother you, just back off and make some space. If you're getting cut off a lot, consider taking a more aggressive blocking position. Check your ego and never enter a pissing contest with a car; even when you win, you stand to lose.

Hm, I can see why there is confusion. I got similar timings for the 350 and TT. But I also got 5-6 seconds for the Ninja 250. Other sites are sourcing 8-10 seconds. Can somebody who actually knows how to drag take the little 250 onto a drag strip and check? lol

It's mid-7s for the 250...

I agree 250's are fun because you can go almost to the limits with them and they are cheap to operate. Just get a piece of thick rebar and attach it to your frame with a magnet that way its hidden when not needed.
Ah no it doesn't. It didn't with a 100 pound girl on it while going down (gigiti) hill, so I am not sure how yours is so much faster. tops at 165 (speedo which is really 155 GPS)

I heard one piece of advice for dealing with people who don't even realize they're driving too close to a motorcycle..

Basically you move to the other track of the lane (instead of blocking) and gesture with your hand as if to say "here, take the lane / pass me." I don't know why, I guess it makes the car driver embarassed? And then they fall back.

Haven't tried it though, just something I heard.

Personally, I Just ride faster than the flow of traffic and constantly pass cars. This is my 3rd season riding that way. I've only had 4ish close calls but they're all from cars making left turns =(

Most of my riding is done outside of rush hour and for long commutes.

usually i just switch lanes, it happened to me yesterday some dick kept tail gating me and I could switch lanes because there was a car beside me. I eventually sped up and passed the car to my left. Then we got the lights and I asked him wtf is wrong with him, the guy was clearly just trying to piss me off as he just lit his cigarrette and didnt say anything.
I dont get ****** easily, I knew what he was trying to do so I just told him to grow up and left.
I have a feeling its the same guy who randomly started throwing garbage out of his window infront of my friend when he was riding, it happened around the same area.

I do that all the time. Almost like "here's your invitation race car driver". Not one of them ever pass.

I have the guy a friendly brake check.

LOL @ "friendly brake check" no offense, but any brake check is a dumb one. Especially with a passenger on the back :confused2:

I'd say these scenarios happen to me too, but the difference is: I don't take it personally. Sometimes it seems the other car is in a rush, or perhaps just having some "fun", or maybe he/she is just as aggressive a driver as I am a rider. In any case, I usually try to not be around another "traffic weaver" as much, because they'll tend to make the same/similar moves as I am and the likeliness of us hitting each other is higher.

On the highway; I prefer to ride aggressively until I can find myself a nice open space between two "groups" of cars that seem to be moving at a reasonable pace. I get easily frustrated with people that drive too slowly, or brake too often/unnecessarily.

I ignore any attempts by any vehicle to race me. The whole concept is moronic.

Getting cut off is common though, that's why you really have to pay attention to your surroundings and not just look ahead. Thankfully, a bike is a nimble creature.

agreed. Happens from time to time - get a ****** - male or often a female in a hurry. Usually I don't make eye contact or look at them (Full face helmet) and just stay away from them. Then when I come up to a Lamborghini out in the country, doing the speed limit exactly, I'm like "what?". lol! Wasnt wanting to race ofcourse, but surely thought he would be driving at least 10km over.. like everyone else in their minivans ;-)

Would'nt be a good idea on the passing lane, but an interesting concept for sure..

Not smart to speed in a cop magnet :p especially in the boonies on the weekends.
