Now, we basically have supporters who get to post everywhere including the trash section and non supporters who get into just about everything else.
We have several threads locked down because people got their shorts in knots about other opinions or interpretations of facts. The for sale forums do not allow questions or comments because of communication abuses. The fallen rider threads seem to be watched very carefully for hints of criticism.
We have lost valuable members, I assume because they were goaded into making posts that resulted in them being banned.
Many of the threads that have been locked still had value.
If you follow enough topics you get to know who has expertise in the subjects and we have a lot of potential good advice here. It's a shame it can get locked away.
Do we need to ban more posters?
Do we need to increase the workload on the mods by making them babysit?
Do we put people on partial bans? A member gets restricted posting access to contentious topics
How about a online version of the cuss jar? One freebee with a warning and after that any obnoxious post costs $X with the income going to the mods for the extra work.
I would say no. Combination of off season, and this stupid pandemic are making people more squirrelly then normal. Also I would rather have someone vent here online then take it out on someone in public where it could be a lot worse. Plus more division doesn't make things more inclusive.

This is the internet. Just like (I believe) you shouldn't ride w/o gear you should likely avoid the net if you have a thin skin and are easily annoyed.
As for bike stuff the threads are well marked and very helpful. However the RomperRoom is clearly labelled off topic - isn't that warning enough?
I consider this type of website a community forum - the community is motorcycles, the discussion can be whatever.
When a group of motorcyclists congregate for a ride, they are in a community. Are they restricted to talking about just motorcycles when they stop for lunch or an overnight camp?
This last year has been tough on everyone, having the opportunity to discuss more than motorcycles simply improves the destination and experience. I have never been offended, perhaps I have offended some (let me know if I made you cry, I will apologize).
If this was just hardcore motorcycle talk, I’d not likely be here. I get my motorcycle kicks from riding and tinkering. This forum entertains me - I kinda like the odd squabble and the challenge of point : counter-point exchanges.
I have met only a few posters in person, all have been excellent people. I look forward to meeting a few more this season.
Agreed.
I blocked 2 people, and I can't tell you how much more enjoyable GTAM has become.
Maybe this is the route that should be suggested instead of the ban-hammer.
Once enough people ignore certain posters, they will lose their perceived "power" and quite possibly slink off into the darkness.
Ignore the pests and annoyances. Make GTAM a better place.
;-)
I still wish we could see how many people blocked us (although for obvious reasons not who). If you see that number quickly climbing, you get an idea that you probably either need to tone down or move on. I also have two people blocked, a third one is on deck but about 10% of his posts I find quite good.
