Wonder if other insurance CEOs will start walking around with private security...

It's being widely reported that CEOs of other large healthcare companies are taking down all their social-media profiles.

As far as getting those companies to operate in a more ethical fashion ... doubt if that'll happen. But then, there is this ...

We may be headed back that way since there’s such a massive gap between rich and poor right now and apparently different rules for the very rich vs the rest.

Some terrorist groups targeted corporate heads in Europe in the 60’s, 70’s I think. We may be headed back that way since there’s such a massive gap between rich and poor right now and apparently different rules for the very rich vs the rest.
Not holding my breath. They've got us all much more fixated on each other with wedge issues (trans rights! guns! abortion! gay marriage! refugees! affirmative action!), meanwhile they laugh, untaxed, all the way to their globalised offshore bank. Then we wonder why we can't afford the same stuff as we used to as a society, when mega corporations and the very wealthy pay far less tax than they did back in the so-called golden era of the 1950's, both because of reduced rates and the proliferation of loopholes via a needlessly complex tax code.

As always, this cartoon is evergreen:

Divide and conquer is what happening....Its a real classic

People are upset about inflation, high prices, housing affordability and these are important reasons (yes, not the only reasons) why Trump prevailed in the election.

Income inequality is huge in the U.S., and health care access is poor for many people. Everyone knows someone who was screwed over by an insurance company.

When you look at the cabinet picks Trump is making you see TV / media personalities and billionaires. It is sad that the MAGA crowd seems to believe that Trump and his team are going to tame inflation and lower prices. His team will be cutting taxes for corporations and the rich and the DOGO twins will be recommending cuts to entitlements that impact the poor and the working poor. Add to this the impact of tariffs, which is going to increase prices for everyone.

Maybe people will realize they've been lied to and the midterm elections in 2026 will change the majorities in the House and the Senate. At that point Trump is a lame duck, term limited (we hope), president.

And if the corporations are evil just look the other way ? Governments intervene on all sorts of things - both the good and the bad.
Legality and ethics are quite different. It is illegal to break into someone's house and steal their money. However it's perfectly legal to get the home owner to sign a document that lets you take their money and give you less than they thought they were going to get.

There is no obligation for a seller to evaluate the competence of the purchaser. Elderly and mentally challenged people have lost their homes and it's legal. It's impossible to define ethics and therefore control it.

Try explaining that away in a court of law. Good luck.

I'm not even concerned about the profits. Rejection of a claim should be medically supportable. I would be entirely ok if there was a rapid intervention oversight body that reviewed referred cases quickly and if the rejection was not found to be medically supported they would automatically pay out the claim times ten. That would make insurance companies think long and hard about rejecting vs making it their initial offer in the quest for more profit.
Let's start that at home.

Car insurance for the victim of a bad driver.

If the victim can't live on a minimum wage replacement the victim is responsible for providing for their predicament

If the victim likes a new car every two or three years, they have to accept the diminished value of their trade in.

Why aren't those the responsibility of the errant driver.

Travel medical is underwritten at the time of claim and a misunderstanding of a term can mean claim denial. Old people forget, get confused, misunderstand. Is an EKG a test or a procedure? It matters.

It certainly is NOT impossible to define ethics. It's just inconvenient.
Try explaining that away in a court of law. Good luck.
Unfortunately an NDA keeps me from explaining the reality of the situation and I'm not the only one.

Our family is out hundreds of thousands due to the inconvenience with no results.

Did you know that a crown attorney can deny to hear a case that police thought the documentation was the best they had ever heard?

Join the real world.

If someone slips on an icy sidewalk who is ethically responsible?

This is Canada. We get ice and snow.

Was the "Victim" wearing appropriate footwear or chic dancing shoes?

Was the victim watching where they were going or checking on FB for what's what with their crowd .

Was the victim double their recommended weight and contributing to a problem their bones couldn't handle?

Was the property owner responsible for not having 24/7 security to sweep up every snowflake?

That's a lot cheaper than trying to be a little bit moral.

Joyce Meyer, a multimillionaire televangelist was paying this guy $100K as her bodyguard. Then he offed his wife and kids to be with another bedmate.

Now if someone didn't like Meyer and offered him $120K?????

There are a number of politicians that have been offed by their guards. Sadat and Gandhi (X2) come to mind.

I'm sorry but WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT?

Ever heard of taxes?
You should at least have a vague idea of what communism IS before you try to use it as a pejorative

Anyway...

Communism is a type of government as well as an economic system (a way of creating and sharing wealth). In a Communist system, individual people do not own land, factories, or machinery. Instead, the government or the whole community owns these things. Everyone is supposed to share the wealth that they create.

In reality it works out quite differently
.
As far as insurance goes it's appalling on many settlements and government intervention, even here, is pro insurance.
