Daily sports car?

Typically the cars have been fairly reliable, but my mother IS the person that barely drives her car. Her Qashqai has over 3 years on it, and it's at 25,000km

If that’s barely driving, I guess mine just stays parked. I’ve got a 2014 car with a little over 17,000kms....lol

LOL...nope. That’s my ‘drive it a couple days a month in the warmer weather but only when it’s sunny and dry roads’ vehicle.
My daily driver sees about 8,000 - 10,000 a year.
Well now we need to know what the fun car is....

It’s a Ford Mustang with some family history to it. My grandmother bought it new as an 80th birthday present to herself and barely drove it. At the end of 2019 she had a mild stroke and it just sat in her garage for the next 6 months. She called me up last year and said she couldn’t stand it being in her garage anymore so she was going to sell it to her local Ford dealer but if I wanted it then I could buy it off her instead.
I drove it a couple of times, stored it for the Winter and got it out of storage a couple of weeks ago. I just got it back from getting the paint corrected and ceramic coated. I’ll have this car for as long as I can still drive.

I love it. Good job! Wish we had something like that in our family....

the only thing I wish I could find is my grandfathers motorcycle...but it being in Poland, and grandma selling it 15 years ago...that bike is gone.

beautiful Mustang.

Cars, especially sports cars, have always been special in my family. My grandparents even built and owned a drag strip in the late 60’s to early 70’s - I’ve even got a photo album filled with drag cars running at the strip!
As for the Mustang, pictures do not do it justice. It looks better than most brand new cars right now! I cannot say enough positive things about Funken Auto Spa in Guelph, they did a fantastic job with it!

That sounds like Nissan. Absolutely terrible service. It's too bad the first car I ever drove was a Nissan Altima 1991 manual transmission that my dad gifted me when I started to learn driving. Nissan could have been the 'IT' car for me based on just that. But they would prefer to steal 120$ from me instead of me buying a new car from them when I am trading mine in. Oh well...

My Rouge had started shaking hard, coming from the rear side of the car when I was approaching highway speeds, about 40,000 km in. and less than three years total ownership. I don't know how they can spin that so it is my fault.

Im normally Pro Japanese, but let me tell you, of all the jap brands, Nissan is the only one I'd avoid like the plauge, or covid, even.

They were brilliant in the 70s and 80s 240Z anyone? game changing original Pathfinder? even the older Maximas (4 door sports car?) were pretty compelling. But somewhere along the 90s they lost their way.

The only way they can sell these vehicles now, is by dropping their pants. Nissan always has huge incentives going on. and their reliability went downhill.

Lucky you. Still waiting for a "grandmother" to gift me her mint S2000 sitting in her garage she doesn't want anymore....

When Nissan went to CVT transmissions and got bought by Renault, they turned to crap. Before that, solid machines.

Jeez, don’t tell me this....I just bought a Nissan Frontier!

It's pretty normal to be quoted a diagnostic fee while under warranty, it serves a few purposes. Main one is if the issue is not warrantable for whatever reason. If the diag fee was not quoted, the shop would not be able to come back to you and ask you to pay because of the Consumer Protection Act. They still have to pay their tech for his time and end up eating it internally. Of course if the issue is under warranty, that takes care of the diag time and everyone is happy.

As for the brand discussion. Each dealership (Mercedes has some corporate owned) is effectively an independent entity from the manufacturer. Your positive or negative experience at one dealer should not greatly reflect your perception on the brand as a whole. There are good and bad dealerships amongst all brands, and the quality of their service can change very quickly depending on staffing.

I've never been charged a diagnostic fee when bringing a car in for a problem while still under the original warranty, even if it turned out to be not covered. Our newest car is a 2019 VW, so clearly not all brands do, unless the dealerships are being inconsistent (which they shouldn't be).

I do agree that there is a huge discrepancy in the quality of different dealers for the same brand.

There is a lot of variability here. Most shops won't charge a diag fee if they only looked at the issue for a few minutes or drove it around the block. Even if the diag fee is quoted, doesn't mean they will charge it.

End of the day it is up to the individual dealer how they choose to go about this. Even within the same dealer there will very likely be inconsistency. A longtime customer that bought the vehicle and does their service there is likely to get a different response to a new customer that starts off with "my mechanic (second cousin's dog walker's uncle that used to work on boats) says..."

Not to argue, but again from my experience, it's never been quoted or mentioned unless I was on extended warranty. That said, I'm very careful who I take my vehicles to warranty work, and research to make sure they don't pull any of this crap. So maybe some do, I just haven't been to one of them.

Dealership loyalty hasn't meant much for me either, at least not with Ideal Honda. I bought a new 2001 Odyssey and had all the services done there. Near the end of my warranty, I had some of the telltale warning signs of an imminent transmission failure, but they weren't able to find any problem. By the time it eventually did fail, I was past warranty by mileage but not time. They told me I needed a new transmission for $2000 and said they asked Honda Canada for good will but it was denied. I decided to check with Parkway Honda which was on the way to work, and they said no problem, even though I had never stepped foot in their dealership before.

While true, as a brand, they need to stand up for their consumers. If you complain to the mothership about a dealer that sucks, the brand needs to kick that dealers ass as the "independent entity" is hurting the reputation of the mothership.
