Daily sports car?

My issue was at roughly 40,000 km and well within my 3 year 60k coverage.

The diagnostic fee is mandetory there regardless of your warranty, and is only waived if they agree that the issue is in a component covered by warranty.
That's effed up. I had Honda inform me of a diagnostic fee recently because I was out of comprehensive, and into the extended warranty and still within the powertrain. I would have to pay it if it turned out the repair was not covered.

The 2018 Odyssey needed new injectors for whatever reason at 70k. They were fully covered.

As for 401-Dixie Nissan...those mother effers....those sons of bitches tried to take advantage of my mother and it took me 3 hours of ******** on their sales advisors and service managers to reduce the charges. She went in for an oil change, and they said 'we'll just do everything for your next service', to which she says 'sure' but without knowing what the hell that means (60year old with passable english). She goes to pick up the car and the bill is close to 2k.

Replaced the rotors, filters, pads, rotate tires, lube everything...whatever they could fit within their 'service' they charged. She refused to pay and leave, and called me crying to come see wtf is up. I worked at a dealer for close to a decade so loved ******** on the advisors when they try to pull some stunts.

We go from about 2k in bills down to 1k and they're not budging further, so I just tell them...'you know what, let me see the parts you replaced as I want to be sure they needed replacing' and the manager's face drops. Same for the advisors. The response is 'we didn't keep them'.

'well you have to by law keep those parts and if a customer wants them then you have to be able to show them to me. I want you to put them back on because this is ********* and I'm not paying.'

So price goes down to $600.

I'm paying you for an oil change and nothing else.

$400

And my dad says 'ok fine we'll pay the $400.'

I was livid. I spent 3 hours there, and was ready to bring them down to $50 for the work and he folded like a cheap laptop.

So we paid $400 for a 2k service that day. **** those guys.

That sounds like Nissan. Absolutely terrible service. It's too bad the first car I ever drove was a Nissan Altima 1991 manual transmission that my dad gifted me when I started to learn driving. Nissan could have been the 'IT' car for me based on just that. But they would prefer to steal 120$ from me instead of me buying a new car from them when I am trading mine in. Oh well...

My Rouge had started shaking hard, coming from the rear side of the car when I was approaching highway speeds, about 40,000 km in. and less than three years total ownership. I don't know how they can spin that so it is my fault.

Easy...you hit something and broke a piece on the assembly in the rear end.

could be a bent rim, out of balance wheel...broken suspension piece...lots of moving parts there. Do you hear a whine/loud noise/hum when it starts shaking? Could be something in the drivetrain with the AWD system, possibly the differential to the back wheels.

Out of balance rims/wheels are much more noticeable in the front as the steering shakes much more.

Woah, that's some serious BS there. Guess I'll be staying away from that brand.

My parents have had Nissans since the first one....a 1989 Nissan Sentra that I totalled.

1 Sentra, 3 Path Finders, 2 Rogues, and 1 Qashqai

Typically the cars have been fairly reliable, but my mother IS the person that barely drives her car. Her Qashqai has over 3 years on it, and it's at 25,000km. We bought their last Rogue because it was such low mileage. Outside of the CVT I like her Qashqai.

If that’s barely driving, I guess mine just stays parked. I’ve got a 2014 car with a little over 17,000kms....lol

Is that your primary vehicle? That's F all....

LOL...nope. That’s my ‘drive it a couple days a month in the warmer weather but only when it’s sunny and dry roads’ vehicle.
My daily driver sees about 8,000 - 10,000 a year.

Well now we need to know what the fun car is....

Well now we need to know what the fun car is....

It’s a Ford Mustang with some family history to it. My grandmother bought it new as an 80th birthday present to herself and barely drove it. At the end of 2019 she had a mild stroke and it just sat in her garage for the next 6 months. She called me up last year and said she couldn’t stand it being in her garage anymore so she was going to sell it to her local Ford dealer but if I wanted it then I could buy it off her instead.
I drove it a couple of times, stored it for the Winter and got it out of storage a couple of weeks ago. I just got it back from getting the paint corrected and ceramic coated. I’ll have this car for as long as I can still drive.

I love it. Good job! Wish we had something like that in our family....

the only thing I wish I could find is my grandfathers motorcycle...but it being in Poland, and grandma selling it 15 years ago...that bike is gone.

beautiful Mustang.

Cars, especially sports cars, have always been special in my family. My grandparents even built and owned a drag strip in the late 60’s to early 70’s - I’ve even got a photo album filled with drag cars running at the strip!
As for the Mustang, pictures do not do it justice. It looks better than most brand new cars right now! I cannot say enough positive things about Funken Auto Spa in Guelph, they did a fantastic job with it!

Im normally Pro Japanese, but let me tell you, of all the jap brands, Nissan is the only one I'd avoid like the plauge, or covid, even.

They were brilliant in the 70s and 80s 240Z anyone? game changing original Pathfinder? even the older Maximas (4 door sports car?) were pretty compelling. But somewhere along the 90s they lost their way.

The only way they can sell these vehicles now, is by dropping their pants. Nissan always has huge incentives going on. and their reliability went downhill.

Lucky you. Still waiting for a "grandmother" to gift me her mint S2000 sitting in her garage she doesn't want anymore....

When Nissan went to CVT transmissions and got bought by Renault, they turned to crap. Before that, solid machines.

Jeez, don’t tell me this....I just bought a Nissan Frontier!

It's pretty normal to be quoted a diagnostic fee while under warranty, it serves a few purposes. Main one is if the issue is not warrantable for whatever reason. If the diag fee was not quoted, the shop would not be able to come back to you and ask you to pay because of the Consumer Protection Act. They still have to pay their tech for his time and end up eating it internally. Of course if the issue is under warranty, that takes care of the diag time and everyone is happy.

As for the brand discussion. Each dealership (Mercedes has some corporate owned) is effectively an independent entity from the manufacturer. Your positive or negative experience at one dealer should not greatly reflect your perception on the brand as a whole. There are good and bad dealerships amongst all brands, and the quality of their service can change very quickly depending on staffing.
