credit check

I don't believe it since all Teksavvy does it resell Bell and Rogers. If you have access to Bell or Rogers you should have access to Teksavvy. Guess I might be wrong, though.
You are wrong ? ?
Also in Woodbridge. Also cannot get Teksavvy or Fibe, for that matter.

You can try to find someone nearby that is on-net (has high speed internet service readily available) and do a point-to-point wi-fi to them (special antennas).
What is this 'point-to-point ' you speak of?

You need a wireless bridge and special antennas at each location. I haven't done it personally but have seen it in use as a backup network link at a company where they couldn't add a separate hardwire circuit. I seem to recall there was a rural isp providing service this way a few years back...

I have a rocket hub as it is my only option as well Rogers or no internet and it is expensive I also need a signal booster to even get a Rogers signal inside. I live 1 km from Cambridge and could almost hit the 401 with a stone. If you are not in a city the internet options are minimal.

Yipes I can only imagine the bandwidth costs.

Been there, done it, works excellent.

Acanac a no go.

However Rogers has come around, but now they are re-verifying I can get the service before they send the tech.

Sigh. 59.99 is for first three months of ignite right now, then to 89.99. Includes shomi and game centre live for 2 years.

I was paying $139.00 for Bell satellite and $90 for cellular hub and that was limited to 3Gs...anything has to be better than that. Receiver went so I'm trying to get high speed and an android box.

Trying is key word

Be sure to get your deal in writing with what's included and for how long. Rogers has twice tried to drop promotions mid-term on my bill that were supposed to be full-term. Having it in writing was the only thing to resolve the issue (I get them to either email me the agreed services or txt me the details from the Rogers line prior to hanging up).

This times 10000!
Forget mid term, I negotiated a deal. Thought I was gold b/c I had confirmation #. Next month plan is not what I had agreed on. Called in, no record of what I said I had, just what was given to me. After a lengthy battle (over 10 hours in total) and finally just telling them that I wanted them to go over the recorded conversation, I got what i wanted and a $15/month credit. But I wouldn't do it again. Now everything gets emailed while I am on the line, I review, then give my consent.

Maybe i'm paranoid, but I record all conversations when I call these companies.... Recently used it against Cogeco when they tried to back out of a deal promised to me.

Works great..... Especially when they give you the whole speal about being recorded... and you just say "yes... likewise".

You don't even have to inform them that they are being recorded. Only one party in a phone conversation needs to know that there's a recording going on. Not limited to phones either. Sadly iphones won't let you record calls with out external hardware, don't know if the same is for androids.

Thank God I don't have to go through that again

Right, missed the 5 in there.

Shomi isn't just a Rogers thing... and the content isn't that bad. It has a fair amount of stuff that Netflix Canada doesn't have.
The Modem was either $200 with Teksavvy, or my parents got it for free with Rogers. Well it's technically a "rental" so if they cancelled they would have to give it back.

Is that all with a bundle? Might tempt me to give Rogers a call. We have 30 unlimited with Teksavvy that switches to 15 between 8-midnight.
The price sounds too good to be true, without them making $$$ somewhere else.

Did you check all speeds? Fibe isn't available everywhere. Teksavvy uses Rogers hardware so if you can get Rogers you should be able to get Teksavvy cable. I think for DSL Teksavvy only uses Bell lines but their own hardware so if you are too far from their hardware you won't be able to get it.

As far as point-to-point goes, the antennas we use at work, which are super easy to set up, cost $4000 each from Hutton (according to their website but I've seen them listed for as low as $1600 USD) (you need two) and have a 25-50 km maximum range, depending on the model (but speed decreases with distance, for full 60 mbps maximum speed you must be less than 3 km). You would also need to build a tower at each location to clear any obstacles, which costs upwards of $1000. So not cheap. We use them for less than a km a lot of the time, lol. Just too much hassle to put in cables. A normal router with a high gain, powered, antenna might be able to accomplish the same thing for less.

Even to get Xplorenet a few years back it cost my parents $1500 for a tower, then $1200 in hardware costs.

There is no bundle. Granted I called, got transferred to corporate accounts, and then they made the bundle / deal. After they added the services to my account, they created a new account for my parents and transferred the services over.

I guess Rogers is smart.... Happy parents = Happy Son = Happy Corporate Customer LOL.

My buddy didn't get quite as good, but still got $67 100/10 Unlimited with no contract. Did not include modem or Shomi though.

You can accomplish something very similar if you use old satellite dishes. Granted you need to know how to aim the dish correctly, adjust the LNB distance etc.... You could easily do 5KM with just some cheap sat dishes / Yagi antennas. The yagi's would need to be tuned to the frequency you intend to use.

All i'm saying is that it's possible without spending huge $$$. (You would still need LOS though... Towers)

Yes there are cheaper options. I guess I just figured something off the shelf would be more reliable than something cobbled together out of junk in the garage. :) Depends on your needs.
