credit check

Im with bell and I just need to keep calling yearly to renew their promotional. Whenever I have an problem, i'm only on the phone for less than 15 minutes and a tech will come same day if I call in the AM or tomorrow if it's noon or later. I guess it depends who you talk to or the location you live in?

definitely who you talk to. Not all call centre folks are created equally.
little trick (that works with Bell at least) on the prompt, select French. That connects to a call centre in New Brunswick, then when they answer, ask if they speak English. Better than talking to the Philippines.

Bell I have one option, cellular hub which doesn't give me d/l speed fast enough.

Teksavvy "unable to find product that matches your postal code"

Same with Xplorenet.

Rogers says the rocket stick will work. I need it installed to verify this. I could care less about customer service, I just want somewhat fast Internet.

I live in Durham region, all the little towns around me have high speed, but not my little twon

Tried Start.ca? Acanac.ca?
They're Teksaavy equivalents might have contracts in the area for service.

Teksavvy resells Rogers and Bell. When you have an issue Teksavvy opens a ticket with Bell/Rogers to have the issue resolved. Pray you never have a major issue.

As a wholesaler I had to call on a customers behalf to Teksavvy today (Simple DSL sync issue)..... I was on the phone for 55 minutes. At the end of the call what was accomplished? A ticket was opened with bell and a technician was going to be dispatched in 24-48 hours.

My wife had Teksavvy through Bell, when she first moved with no problems; it was a slower line.

I've had three major issues. All with the cable though. Phone has been working fine, since day one.
1. I had the Cable TV disconnected by Rogers, and they also took out my Internet. Rogers was no help, but I got to give them heck for it. Teksavvy had someone out in the next day (Rogers truck), who hopped fences in the middle of the winter and got it fixed.

2. Older modem needed an upgrade, and wanted to do it over the Cable lines. Rogers doesn't allow Teksavvy to do that. This one took a while to identify, as it showed up as a slowing of the line, and then a reboot of the modem. Also, there might have been some of the third issue involved. Once identified a new modem arrived the following day, I sent the original one back, and everything worked much better.

3. Cable line had major problems with speed and disconnects. Crew was arranged for two days later, and put in a new line above ground in the snow which solved the problem. This summer, the crew was back to put in the more permanent line.

When Teksavvy was first around, it was a pain because they didn't have enough Customer Service Reps, but they seem to have addressed the issue.
Some will have a detectable French accent, but I find their being Canadian an asset.
I normally, try to shortcut the process. I use the call me back feature, so that I don't have to be on the line while in queue.
I reboot all involved devices, and pull up the modem's diagnostic page, as that will all be part of their script, before they can send me to level 2 support.
I don't try to get technical until they have enough documentation to go off script or send me to level 2 support, as they're not usually interested in having me train them, they need to have that documentation, and it's a waste of both of our time, if we go that route. They are usually running a diagnostic on their end at the same time. If neither of those things shows exactly what's wrong, the diagnostic should show some symptoms, and they'll need to send someone out to check the line from the box to the house. I've found that my underground Bell line in Toronto seemed to be sensitive to the wet, whereas the underground Cable line was not.

Ah, ok. Rocket stick. Teksavvy doesn't have them as far as I know. They go through the Rogers cable lines.

Could you get a second small credit card, with a low maximum balance, to give out in these cases?

Once they go to a Credit agency they will most likely have your cc and driver's license numbers from the report, won't they?

Ive been with Teksavvy for 3 years now (roughly) and have never, not once had a problem and had amazing customer service when i called. I pay much less than i used to for Rogers and the speed is good.

I had some horrible experiences with Rogers and thought it was just me. My search led me to realize that this kind of an experience with Rogers is very common place and in fact studies have found Rogers to have the worst customer service.

I know they use Rogers cables but they are nothing like Rogers and are they own company.

Just my experience.

I'm going with Ebox. You can also try Distributel. All Quebec based

Not sure how Teksavvy is cheaper than Rogers now......

This is the package I got for my parents:

Rogers Ignite 100
100/10 Unlimited Bandwidth
Shomi Subscription
No Contract
No promotion expiration
Includes Modem Rental

$67.79 including taxes.

If Teksavvy can beat that... i'm all ears.

My Cogeco Internet is 120/10 - Unlimited Bandwidth for $71.17 including taxes.

Also every time I have called Rogers CS, absolutely no issues.... and I speak to somebody within a couple minutes. I do have a corporate account, but have spoken to different departments without issues.

Bell on the other hand........ Hell with that.

You don't need to be far off the beaten path in Ontario to have little choice in Internet Providers.

My office is yards North of Hwy 7 in Woodbridge; only Bell has services, only aDSL is available 4/.25
Friend is on Hwy 48 at Major Mac; no wired service, only cell providers

On the other hand, downtown Toronto; Beanfield FTTH, 100/100 $45/month

I don't believe it since all Teksavvy does it resell Bell and Rogers. If you have access to Bell or Rogers you should have access to Teksavvy. Guess I might be wrong, though.

So i just checked and Teksavvy is offering the same thing at the same price. $59.99 before taxes.

It seems like Rogers is matching their prices/no contract deals,

That said, given the history of Rogers and how they treat their customers, also given the fact that they kill small companies that try to come in (also talking about wireless), id rather give my money to a smaller company that has been nothing but great to me in 3 years. In contrast, i spend tens and i mean ttens of hours fighting Rogers for wrong charges and bad service in the past.
So even if theyve cleaned up their customer service and are offering he same price, i (personally) prefer giving my money to smaller companies rather than a company like Rogers. But thats just my personal preference.

Also, Rogers wireless is much higher in prices (Or at least was when i was renewing my cntract last year).

Rocket stick is just a USB cellular modem. It doesn't go through cable. Teksavvy does not sell cellular services so no, they will not have anything similar. It is also why Bell's cellular hub and Rocket Stick are both his only options.

Meme, Bell's coverage map shows they only have HSPA+ in most of Durham region so that is the maximum possible speed you would be able to get (3.5-14 mbps). If there was LTE you'd have been much luckier (12-40 mbps) but even then you'd have horrendously low data caps (similar to a cell phone since that's what it is).

Xplorenet uses point-to-point wireless so if there isn't a station within line of sight, you're out of luck.

Unless they changed something but we have 3 "Rocket Sticks" here at work that are all cellular modems for the guys to take on the road when they need network access (via VPN).

My parents use Megawire (which is, despite it's name, similar to Xplorenet, as far as I know). Maybe check with them.

Teksavvy is not the same price. Their 100 package is only 100G Bandwidth, for unlimited its $94.95.... and that doesn't include a modem rental or Shomi ($8.99/mth package) which my parents like.

I get what you are saying though.

Who rents a modem? And US Netflix has to be better than whatever Rogers is offering.

Teksavvy is also part of Open Media which fights for Internet privacy. Bell and Rogers will likely give up your info to anyone that asks.

Oh, on the topic of giving out SIN numbers: About a decade back my ex worked as a Sprint USA CSR out of a call centre in Kitchener (or was it Cambridge, I don't remember). Their customers' account numbers were actually their SIN numbers. The CSRs were also told to lie and say they were located somewhere in the US because otherwise people would get worried about giving their SIN number, and other personal information, away to a foreigner.

Acanac a no go.

However Rogers has come around, but now they are re-verifying I can get the service before they send the tech.

Sigh. 59.99 is for first three months of ignite right now, then to 89.99. Includes shomi and game centre live for 2 years.

I was paying $139.00 for Bell satellite and $90 for cellular hub and that was limited to 3Gs...anything has to be better than that. Receiver went so I'm trying to get high speed and an android box.

Trying is key word

The one bad thing about Teksavvy Cable is they use Rogers hardware. With DSL, Bell owns the copper, but the rest plugs into Teksavvy DSLAMS at the nearest node/centre. With cable, all Teksavvy can do is open a ticket at Rogers, which likely will get auto-closed 1-2 times until they are annoyed enough to go look into the issue. As far as I know, Teksavvy isn't allowed to directly admin any of the equipment, since they are not Rogers employees.

As for locations that have Bell and Rogers also having Teksavvy, that is hit or miss, especially once you get out of the GTA. DSL is more likely, and given the above, is probably the better way to go anyhow.

it's 150GB i think for that price but yeah, the modem is not included. I had to buy my own which was about $120 a few years back.

Right, missed the 5 in there.

Shomi isn't just a Rogers thing... and the content isn't that bad. It has a fair amount of stuff that Netflix Canada doesn't have.
The Modem was either $200 with Teksavvy, or my parents got it for free with Rogers. Well it's technically a "rental" so if they cancelled they would have to give it back.

You can try to find someone nearby that is on-net (has high speed internet service readily available) and do a point-to-point wi-fi to them (special antennas).
