I know some people here are more up to date on the vaccine than me,

The question is I’ve got a daughter that has an immune compromised, she just got a call from her doctor saying she is on the list for the phizer vaccine.

Has others here heard of any immune compromised people been getting this vaccine without complications?

Her doctor told her that dying from covid is more of a risk than dying from the phizer vaccine

I guess this is where the rubber meets the road when it’s one of your own
 
It's a conundrum. The longer she waits the more they know but the greater the chance of not being alive to benefit from the knowledge,

As jc100 says start with her doctor and ask questions. The odds are generally good but stats have to be checked for the non average person.
 
That’s what my worry is, But I’m sure plenty of immune compromised people have already taken the vaccine.

Studies show 23 deaths do to complications with the phizer vaccine was released in January of 2021
 
I'm not a doctor but I work in healthcare. Your daughter's immune system will be challenged by the vaccine. That's how vaccines work. If she has covid or gets covid or another virus while her body is working to build antibodies in response to the vaccine, it will be an extra challenge for her. From what I've seen that's the biggest risk of being vaccinated.
My 2 cents: be extra vigilant about isolation before and a week or two after vaccination. Do your own research, but question the quality and bias of the information sources.
Your family doctor should be someone you trust. Ask him or her what they would do.
Some people get mild flu symptoms and fever from the vaccination. Expect it and plan to take it easy for a few days. It's not dangerous but it is uncomfortable. Covid is much more uncomfortable and dangerous

If I had my choice of any of the available vaccines right now, Pfizer would be the one I'd choose.

I recognize I probably won't get to choose so I'll take the first one offered to me when the time comes knowing and respecting that the people far more educated than me on the topic are working hard to ensure that they're safe and effective.

There's been hundreds of millions of doses (likely/possibly into the billions now actually) of Pfizer given around the world now with infinitesimally small number of reactions. Most side effects are very minor. My wife had a sore arm for a day or so and (to be honest and upfront) felt a little unwell on day 2, but not enough that she couldn't work even. Just kinda "blah" she said. Then perfectly fine.

Have your daughter take the shot and don't sweat it. The risk is low and the reward given being immunocompromised is high. The variants are indeed hitting people in the younger age groups now.

I understand your apprehension and respect you seeking advice. I get it. Arguably getting it from strangers on a motorcycle forum is perhaps not the best source lol, but everything above is solid and I'm confident if you and your daughter ask health professionals or your family doctor for advice you'll get the same from him/her.
 
I was looking to see if anyone has heard if the immune compromised is getting the shot and not have complications with it.
 
Considering many immune compromised have been in the very first groups in many countries and received it some time ago I’d say the risks have been proven to low, and the effectiveness has increasingly (every day) proven to be high.

I was under the impression this is not a normal vaccine, they re not giving you COVID like they do a flue shot, it is the ability to fight COVID should you catch it. Is my understanding wrong on this?
 
A close family member is immune compromised and also got the call that she can get the vaccine now. She is going to get it.

A few months ago she called her doctor and at that time they didn’t know if it would be safe and weren’t sure if she would be getting it.

I would be confident they have done the proper research on at risks groups by now otherwise they wouldn’t offer it. Just my thoughts.

I’ll let you know what comes of it. I’m not sure exactly when she is getting hers.

You are in a terrible dilemma . Is your doctor a family practitioner or a specialist ? If a specialist I would follow their lead . If not I would ask to see a specialist for persons with immunity problems . This forum is the worst place to get advice on health . I have two thankfully healthy kids . They will not be getting any of the " emergency use " vaccines .

I'm not getting the shot so I don't need to see one . My immune system is just fine .

The vaccine causes your body to create a protein that exists in the covid virus. The body's immune system then detects this protein as a foreign object and attacks it. The immune system then remembers what that protein looks like and will attack it right away in the future.
If you get covid after vaccination (and you've had time to build an immune response) you will already have antibodies that will attack it.
Traditional vaccines have a 'disabled' version of the virus that can't spread and replicate, but it provokes the same immune response

What’s the response time after getting the first shot till it starts to do what it’s designed for?
 
I don't know if there's hard data on that. 2 weeks on the outside, probably much less. Unfortunately it's not as effective on some of the variants so it reduces risk but doesn't eliminate it
