Covid booster

Tried to book a couple of times. Last night I finally got through the queue.

Ottawa sucks. One place to get the shot, three if I'm aboriginal. Booking times are "coming soon".

Gotta love that two tiered citizenship.

Anyone know if they are trying to match the booster to your second dose? Would prefer not to mix and match if possible.

My wife was offered a choice of MNRA. The person administering the shot had no preference which she got. She got the same as the first two.

If you are on double AZ, good luck. They are a complete crapshow with only a few thousand in the province and nobody seems to know where they are or how to get them. You are supposed to need special approval from the local health unit to get AZ as they are only providing it for specific medical reasons that prevent you from getting MRNA.

Thanks. I got Moderna so would like to continue with that, apparently their boosters are formulated differently than Pfizers

Moderna has a different dose quantity: 100 micrograms dose 1, 100 micrograms dose 2, and 50 micrograms for the booster (Pfizer is 33 migrograms per dose regardless). There's also some evidence that Moderna effectiveness doesn't wane as quickly as Pfizer. Also the mixing and matching wasn't something advised during the vaccine development, it was proposed by the government to alleviate supply issues.

I'm in queue at the Costco, for Pfizer, last two were Moderna.
Government & Shoppers here had no queue.
No idea when they'll start processing people.
Looks like they don't have a supply, and they laid off all the workers from the second shot, so they don't have people power.

What about the fact that kids are allowed to be in school, even after testing positive if they're vaccinated? Brilliant thinking by public health.
No idea about that. My kids school isnt old enough for vaccinated kids. If true that seems incredibly dumb. Positive teachers who are vaccinated are required to attend school and teach online.

Found out today that protocol for classes with cases is different for omicron vs not-omicron. With a non-omicron case, kids and teacher are kicked out for 10 day isolation (and testing). Their families can go on with life as normal. With an omicron case, kids, teachers and their entire families are locked down for 10 days.

It’s the same exact tech, different carriers.

I'm still a tad under 50 so I'm not technically eligible yet, but I am in a risk group that got me in for my first shot back in April several weeks ahead of everyone else.

No such exemptions listed this time however. My wife got in for hers today because she's registered as an essential caregiver for her grandmother in a nursing home, but I'm not in any of the categories.

But I had a thought considering things are changing in a few days....so I called Durham Region Health;

Me: Hi, I'm not quite technically eligible for a booster yet but I'm wondering if you're taking bookings for next week when I am.
Them: Are you over 50?
Me: No.
Them: Well unless you're in one of (lists exemptions) categories you can't book.
Me; But Monday I will be eligible, and I'm in an elevated risk category.
Them: But you're not 50, so you can't book.
Me: But......Monday.
Them: You'll have to call us back.
Me: <Exasperated sigh>. Ok then.

It sure would be nice if they could start thinking outside the box. At this point Monday is going to be a gong show I'm sure and unless I stay up until 1 or 2 in the morning fighting with the booking systems I'm guessing I won't see a needle until the new year.

@Renboy where is that happening? I'm an elementary teacher and while only a small percentage of my school was old enough for vaccinations (until most recently with the opening of those aged 5 +), anyone that tested positive was definitely not allowed back to school regardless of vaccination status...

Check your PMs.

I'm in Guelph. This was the brain child of Nicola Mercer who is the Medical Officer of Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health.

Long term no, short term, none to the first Astrazenica shot, soreness and mild fever to the second shot ....was happy as meant my immune system was functioning.

Third shot coming up will be Pfizer or Moderna ...that mix is supposedly quite good.

Partner had no adverse reactions beyond a sore arm for all 3 ....her daughter was knocked off work for a couple of days with all three ( she was sick from it yesterday after her third)

Aye but the longer South Africa goes without a proportional explosion in ICU numbers and deaths, the more hopeful we can be. Those numbers are going up some...it isn't innocuous...but so far, not nearly in proportion to cases.

Yes, but it's also important to remember that their population's average age is 30. We should probably look at the UK for a better idea of what's coming -- so far their ICU is staying relatively flat.

Ford about to hold a news conference.

Late as usual.

I'm sure everything will be on the table. Something something 900 pound gorilla. We're all in this together. Flatten something. It pains me to do this. Test, vaccinate, something something Cheesecake, have a pop at home instead. Folks.
