COVID and the housing market

Depends on the definition of yacht! LoL Is it a 10ft aluminum boat, or a 50ft monster...

I still think motorcycling isn't for the lower middle class populace (in Canada anyway) considering the entry cost, maintenance cost, insurance, and all that good stuff. Which reminds me I need to pay insurance for the year. Dammit.
There’s a saying; work to live, don’t live to work. Many people spend their coin on living life regardless of income, (travel, toys, food, etc) and many do not. I know someone whose been in school for 8 years and takes 3 vacations a year as a student. (I’m not talking a weekend in Quebec). And they come from a poor family of immigrants.

It’s for whoever wants to make it a priority in their life.

IMO.

While I agree 100%, there’s a whole lot of people that choose whether to pay their rent or eat on a monthly basis.

We have a good saying in Poland as well ‘if you actually couldn’t afford it, you wouldn’t buy it’

I know many people that cry they can’t afford this that or the other, as they spend 6k on a single vacation, 3k on a kitchen toy, 2-3 vacations per year overseas and 50k on a renovation because ‘they deserve it’.

Goes both ways, but I still stick with my humble opinion that motorcycling is not for the poors in Canada.

like a lot of stuff motorcycling in Canada has gotten very expensive.

when i started it wasnt unlike a lot of european and asian countries , a really basic bike was $500-1000 used , street legal, and ins was dirt cheap.
We all know how that ended.

I’m not going to say it’s cheap, just saying if riding gives you the warm and fuzzies you’ll find a way. No one short of the 1% can bat 100% at their whims and wants.

I watched the superbowl with my real estate and broker friends and had a few chats , Canada ( western GTA) has a HUGE buy what you want , not can afford mentality , and the effect , I must be percieved as successful thing. My understanding is this 'look successful' is a huge thing in some asian culture and leads to incredible stress levels.
The shear number of premium cars in driveways is an indicator

For sure...personally I'm ****** that I have to spend $200 on a new bathroom fan because it's loud as poop...

however....show me a LEGO set for $200 and I'm in 100%...or I could put that $200 away into a savings account, or a vacation account...or anything for that matter...but I want the damn LEGO!

Were mopeds no insurance or cheap insurance? That was another low bar to entry that has been removed.

Amen.

I’ll drop 3k on a gaming PC and dropped $50 in The Seychelles for a Margherita pizza, but dropping over $100 on shoes leaves a sour taste in my mouth…

Same here...I dropped $400 on winter boots...absolutely love them, but I still get dizzy thinking about it.

How do you have the money 😳
Mostly dirt cheap rent and no kids.

I’ve saved 10% of every pay check for uh.. almost 23 years, etc.

moped plates were something like $12 bucks and ins was about $50 a yr. Like snow mobile plates ( pre numbers painted on kids LOL) at $15 and ins on my first one was about $50 a year.
And you could take ins off motorbikes in the winter and you didnt start over as a new rider if you sat out 3yrs.

To add comic relief all needed to drive a truck of any size was a 'chaufers" licence. Pre class A,D,B and Z . I had a part time job at an autobody shop in high school with a tow truck side business, at 16 I was driving a three axled heavy wrecker towing transports off the 401.
Current me would never have given 16yr old me keys to a 50ton tow vehicle, in winter, on the 401.
different times.

Sounds like my story. Chauffeur's license at 16 in a Rambler station wagon but for a chauffeur's the vehicle had to be manual tranny. I could have legally driven a loaded tanker on the 401 the next day but never did. The insurance on my Yamaha single was 1/4 the premium of my car. I think almost all bikes were $50 flat rate, about a week's pay at minimum wage. I think helmets were optional. Cops used polo helmets that cracked if you dropped them.

Hey CC our rights are being taken away. We don't need special training. Anyone can drive a semi. They even come in automatic now. I protest. Start a GoFundMe.

Did the fan just start making the noise? Would a drop of oil help? Or is it dust bunnies?

If it's a bearing instead you could buy a metal lathe and make a new one. (inside joke)

I want a new really deep frying pan but I can already hear my wife "Where are you going to put it?"...until she starts using it and then "we have to get rid of something to make room."

I can afford an air fryer but not the $300,000 addition needed to make room for it.

I was pricing a pull out organizer and it seems they are 40%-50% more than I think I paid a few years ago. Same make, same store (Rona). Have they gone the lumber route with pricing?

...
As for minority, I don’t know what gives people the idea we’re all yacht club members or something.
What?

I thought everyone here had a yacht. Or at least a yacht club membership.

(gonna be an ouchie year for operating a power yacht... 500l of fuel per weekend is gonna cut into the scotch budget).

I gave up any compelling need to ever sit in a tractor cab the day I left the auto body business LOL .
The professionals can have that gig.
Happy to be unfree .

HA - me too! I got a construction driver's license in AB at 14 for a summer job. Had to use my mom's MGB to get my Chauffeur's license (manual required). If I recall the only things you couldn't drive were air brake vehicles.

I lost my chauffeur's license when I moved to the US. Ontario changed the licensing rules while I was abroad, I should have been grandfathered, but they would only recognize my CA 'G type' license for exchange -- had to do my M to ride.

When Ontario brought in the A, D etc I got an A by my employer signing a document saying I was qualified. He said If I ever had to drive an A they'd teach me. The MOT used the document system until they could set up testing for existing drivers. When my number came up I dropped to a G but kept my M, never having to re-qualify for it. I wasn't interested in driving D anymore due to tinnitus. That was the early 1980s. The cagers were bad enough then.
