Options. None pleasant.

Italy, Spain required you to carry a piece of paper stating where you were going any time you were out of your house. Anyone out on the street was subject to being checked.

Victoria, Australia required you to stay within a certain short distance of your house. Enough to shop for essentials but that's about it.
It will never happen here as mobility are rights are largely protected by the constitution (as it should be).

While it appears they they are enshrined in constitution on a macro level (you have the right to cross the border and live in any province), on first glance, it would appear that short-term restrictions on a micro level (stay the f at home) may not violate the constitution.

AFAIK internal mobility rights have not yet been challenged, so we're in uncharted waters. If they do issue regional stay at home orders I hope someone successfully challenges it in court. Such orders set extremely concerning precedents for people's rights.

The concept has its problems but also advantages. The screwed numbers have a lot to do with how the votes are distributed:

Due to the above a vote in a populous state is worth less than a vote in a rural or small state. The number of EC votes should be adjusted to even it out.

Next they need to just get rid of archaic ideas that the EC are actual people, get out of the 18th century and just assign them based on count to get rid of faithless votes from EC members. Each state all or nothing all the same.

The US has a lot to learn about democracy.
As someone already stated it's a Republic. Each State gets population +2 or something like that. It was purposely designed that way, so that the big States couldn't railroad the little ones. There's a group of States that are trying to change that. Once they get enough members to control the vote, all of them will vote according to the majority in the country, rather than the majority in their State.

Elections have been called by government agencies (IE secret service beefing up protection and a no-fly zone over Biden’s house once PA was called) and others (yes, including the media) forever and a day this way once It’s mathematically impossible for the opponent to win any longer. Call it “preemptive” or whatever one pleases until the official certified numbers come in, but it’s the way it goes

This assumes one doesn’t buy into the conspiracy theories this time around that what’s so very clearly happening in reality... somehow isn’t actually reality.
I called it. Biden won. That should settle it for all of you.

I have been 100% on every call I have made since a 1980, slightly ahead of AP. So, either start dancing in the streets or crying in your Coors.

Last couple of days we're neck and neck with Iraq.

Daily new cases in USA is around 180,000 per day, it has doubled in the last two weeks. If they continue to do nothing about it, there are 3 more doubling periods this year ... 1.4 million per day. Christmas-New Years is going to be ugly. 2 more doubling periods until the new administration takes over ... 5.6 million per day. Of course, it will eventually stop doubling every two weeks, when it starts running out of people to infect. At this rate, the USA might not need a vaccine. The problem is ... this will break the health care system. There are about 900,000 total hospital beds in the whole of the USA, and they need some for other things. It's reported that some areas are already filling up.

In Ontario, about 6% of hospital beds have covid19 patients in them, and our infection rate per capita is about a quarter of what it is in the USA. We're not out of the woods ... doesn't take many doubling periods to break our health care system, too.

No one seems to be saying it out loud in case they offend the parents...but since schools went back I’m not too surprised about rising cases.

Inside for prolonged periods..possibly not appropriate levels of air handling....contact with the same people for extended periods...etc etc. Basically everything that we shouldn’t be doing during a global pandemic of a pretty easily transmitted virus. Surgical/cloth mask use isn't supposed to be a solution for prolonged contact.

The mask deniers, party goers and other assorted ********** are the icing on the cake.

From whats being reported it doesn't seem schools are getting a whole lot of infections, couple here and there type thing. Meanwhile the 100-300 people 2-4 day weddings are major superspreaders. Who the **** is still having weddings during a pandemic.

that's nuts too but I feel like schools could be the source of a few outbreaks simply because of the environment.

The complicating factor with schools is if you close them, you also lose a decent percentage of the workforce as one parent needs to immediately stop work and care for them. I'm not saying it shouldnt be done, but the economic impacts are huge and extend well beyond paying teachers not to work.

Corona doesn't care about our feelings. Corona spreads using science.

science says the environment in a school is perfect for spreading the virus...your move.
No it doesn't.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to prove science out!

Edit: What you're confusing with science, is called "jumping to conclusions".

Pose the question first.

Canada might be worse. Arcane rules provide disproportionate advantages to a few parties and their voters. For example PEI has 4 seats in the house, by population the should have 1. This means each PEI voter has about 4x the clout of the average Canadian. It also means a perpetual 3 free election seats for Liberals.

Ok, so ....transmission is best indoors....are schools indoors?
Transmission is best with not optimum air handling..are schools set up normally with HEPA type air handling or even powerful AC and filtration normally?
Transmission is best with prolonged close contact....do schools promote close contact over prolonged periods of time?

Tell me which conclusion I jumped to?

"science says the environment in a school is perfect for spreading the virus...your move."

Edit: Who is science? Why would he/she say that? Define school environment? Define perfect. Define spread . . .
You need to quantify things, so that we can develop a technique to evaluate the answer. There is no way to prove or disprove your statement. Well, we could disprove it by providing a better environment for spreading the virus. That would likely be a hospital room full of corona patients and the hospital staff not wearing any P.P.E. Do you see what I'm getting at?

I can see that you don’t like facing the inevitable conclusion here.
