Illinois and New York have announced lockdowns. It must happen here sooner than later. People of all ages are too stupid to take this threat seriously, and businesses need the revenue too much to close voluntarily.

New York State (pop 19 million) has about 8000 cases and 46 deaths. In terms of number of cases per million population, they are about where Spain is now - locked down. In terms of deaths per million population, they are where Spain was a week ago - about to be locked down.

California (pop 39 million) has 1200 cases and 23 deaths. They are where Spain was about 10 days ago - about to be locked down.

It's coming.

... It's coming.

And it does not look good.

is there one of these for Canada? Looks exponential.
It's supposed to be exponential. Canada will be quite distorted due to the 4 day delay in testing. As I understand it there are ~5500 suspected cases in ontario and ~400 confirmed. My buddy doesnt even get tested until next week (and then it is probably a delay to get the result).

So is the online learning/teaching also going to be acceptable?
I'm still not entirely convinced school as we knew it returns before a vaccine. The details of the contract mean very little to me as I suspect necessity may create an entirely different reality.

Executive order from Illinois today, looks like the automotive repair is deemed as a essential service. Section E

I had a feeling we would only close when the hospitals did.....

I can understand how someone outside of the industry would consider auto essential, reality is otherwise. Out of all the cars that went through my shop today, I wouldn't consider a single one as an emergency. They were all minor repairs, maintenance, and summer tire swaps.

Wish they'd just do it and be done with it.

The "hope people comply" thing is a crapshoot at best as there's a segment of the population who think that they're either the most important person on the planet, that the rules don't apply to them, that they don't give a flying ****, or that "it's just a cold". Don't get me started on the conspiracy theorists.

The "hope businesses comply" thing is hopeless. Look no further than this mornings **** show over a video game.

Just do it, tell EVERYONE to sit on the couch and watch TV for a week, and get the pain over with quicker. At this point we're pulling the bandaid off slowly and painfully instead of just yanking the thing off quickly and being done with it.

Tim hortons (not sure if some or all) have now locked the doors and gone drive through only.
All restaurants in Toronto were directed to close their dining areas. Take out or delivery only.

25k per day fine if you get caught.

I heard yes they were going to allow pet food sales fwiw
vets are staying open with special rules for operation and some of them also sell food.

This is not just dining area closed. This is no foot traffic at all. You cannot enter the store to order, you have to go through the drive through lane.
