Im wondering how this affects italian bike prices...knowing you wont be able to get more for at least several months is bound to jack up the prices on ducatis

OK Small businesses getting hammered as well as the bigger ones. Part time jobs lost. RRSPs tanked etc. Have they backed down on the demands?
I doubt they are talking right now. The province has bigger issues and won't be in a rush as they can see the spiral and the more we fall, the more leverage they have. The unions should want to settle quickly before we find the bottom hoping that they don't get held down to the new reality. They have no leverage right now to advance the talks though.

In a surprising move, border is shut to refugees. They get sent back to the US (as should be been the policy all along). As expected, many cries from advocates about inflicting more suffering on the most vulnerable at a time like this. Again, screw off, there are much bigger problems than trying to deal with people that have been told how to exploit a loophole in the system to gain access and favorable treatment in Canada. Apply, get accepted, I am happy to have you here.

+1 The US is considered a safe country so they shouldn't be treated as refugees. Take a number and welcome when cleared.

The factory is on a forced shutdown, but that doesn't mean a lot. They are know to shut down for extended holidays anyway. Why would this effect prices?

Exactly prices should drop as this is going to be a economic **** show for years. Demand will dry up and dealerships will be desperate not to hold stock for years.

While I agree in concept the border is technically 8891 km long... about 6400 km if you remove Alaska. It (send them right back) is a populist approach, not easy to completely enforce in the real world. If we took a hard line they would just cross somewhere else in the 6400 km and not seek asylum instead of a few points and checking in. Last numbers I saw said most eventually get sent out. Now we will see what happens with the change.

Look at Mexico US as an example...

A good time to be retired with no debt, with most everything in gic's.
Thinking of buying a new trials bike now that my Ossa is gone. My choice has me pretty much decided on Beta. And as fate would have it, it's made in Italy. Sigh. And of course i blew my left knee out a couple days ago tripping on the $5k stair lift i had installed for my wife. And of course Beta's are left kick start. Sigh again.
Jon English has one for sale right now
;) dismount to start it.

So who knows somebody infected? I potentially do (he was on a work trip to the US, came back, got sick, symptoms match, he feels different than any sickness he has had before). The first slot that was open for him to get tested was next week (he has been sick for most of this week). He and his family are in self isolation (if he has it, he would have infected them before he knew so they get to hang out together). Thankfully, I haven't seen him recently.

The school year is done. Now is the time teachers unions.Let's get things settled by video conferencing and digital communications.
I say just lock 'em out, we don't really need them till September.

Do you think the teacher's union wouldn't use a big hammer if it fell in their laps?

I don't understand why the teachers haven't been canned yet. Every other workplace that is shutting down is sending workers to the EI line. I can't see school restarting any time soon. Afaik, the overwhelming majority of teachers are not working at home full-time on alternative learning options for students. We have had no contact from the teacher in my sons class. The EA (who gets paid crap and is worried that the contract talks may cut her entirely) provides resources, links and ideas on how to keep learning going.

EDIT:
FWIW, my teacher friends that went on vacation last week are posting daily photo updates of the fun they had. "Here are a dozen random people around my beach chair", "Here are a dozen different random people crowded around the bar". F me. What does it take for people to take this seriously? Even if those things happened, would you be publicly posting them?

Embalmers concerned about the lack of PPE as they are low on the list of priorities.

Ummm. Contagious pandemic. Greater good over personal wants. They are dead. Burn em. Obviously that is not a decision at the funeral home level, but it would be hard to fault a government for saying it needs to happen. That also potentially frees up PPE for caring for the living.

and they're teaching our children

And they had mentally decided to go before the schools were closed until April 5. No worries, just pay a supply teacher for another few weeks so I can get some sun on march break. "I only have three months of vacation and comp of 96K, I deserve a few more weeks". Ugh.

Funny how some of the same people who are saying that they will judge a company on how they treat their employees during the COVID crisis are the same people that are saying use it as an excuse to fire the teachers.... truly haters gonna hate.

I was working through the process of the kids seeing their grandparents with minimal risk (not now, but at some point). I am less worried about my family and much more worried about giving it to them. There are no good answers to that.
  1. As far as we know, we haven't been exposed but we continue to have some contact with the outside world. That means that on any given day we may be contagious. It won't be safe to see them until the vaccine is widely available. We could always roll the dice, but it is a risk.
  2. We are completely isolated from the outside world for two weeks prior to them visiting and maintain that isolation until they leave. This one is very hard as I doubt my wife will be able to take any time off work and must go in to do her job. Unless we also kept her separate from the kids and I for that entire period. I don't know if she (or the kids) could deal with that.
  3. If an easy and fast test was available for purchase, test all of us to ensure we don't have it, then visit (not likely anytime soon).
  4. We (or they) get covid, self-isolate for two weeks and then we should be safe to visit whenever. Is this the best option??? Like a chicken pox party back in the day? The chance you catch it in the wild before the vaccine exists is exceedingly high so this may not be exposing us to much unnecessary risk. As a public health policy, should this be considered? After the spike has passed, infect and isolate those least at risk at a controlled rate to get R down and protect those at high risk? The one year timeline for a vaccine is theoretical, it could be more or less. That timeline drastically affects whether this may be a good idea or a terrible idea.
  5. is there a 5?
The grandparents are reasonably old and most have some co-morbidities. You don't really want to keep them away from the kids for a year or more.

GTAM thoughts?
My dad is almost 70, my sister lives with him. For now i haven't visited and won't. Between the both of us we buy everything he needs. He's dead set on walking the dogs twice a day in the creek, nothing we can say to him will dissuade that. Sister visits her partner outside the house and goes through a sanitization regimen before and after entering the house.

I dunno man, not worth the risk until things calm down, imo.

Your dad is doing the right thing (y) stay active stay healthy.
I'm willing to be around anyone I would be willing to take care of if they get sick.

As long as he is keeping his distance from people it is better to have healthy activity.

Having said that, biking yesterday in the Humber there were large groups of people walking dogs, dogs off leash all over each other and the people nose to nose chatting.... stupidity.
