holy **** they basically ignored him because he hadnt traveled anywhere, but had all the obvious symptoms and
pre-existing conditions and now a man is dead.

I would never order via a delivery service that takes such a cut from businesses already hurting. A lot of restaurants and such are still open for take out if you call ahead and order. Get in your car and go in person and give them 100% of the revenue that they NEED right now instead.

And some are doing specials and such to attract people. For those in the Oshawa area Teddy's is offering a $5 whole strawberry pie with an entree order. My wife and I dropped $50 there last night (after a 20% tip to help support the wait staff as well) and enjoyed our dinner at home.

There's a good percentage of clueless self absorbed ******** here as well, unsurprisingly in the younger segment, but also in the middle aged and boomer categories as well. I just got into a spat online on FB yesterday with a friend of a friend who basically said "**** all this stupidity, it's just a cold, I'm living my life!". I called her out. She got her panties in a twist over it...but soon got smacked down by an increasing number of other people who agreed with me for calling her out. She then deleted her comments. But there's almost a 100% chance this self absorbed twat is still "living life like usual" because she's the most important person on the face of the planet and doesn't give two ***** about the rest of society as long as she's "living life as usual".

A friend's mother isn't distancing and her hubby is on chemo. When my mother came down with cancer she also had an infection in her bile duct. They said if they gave her chemo the infection would wipe her a lot faster than the cancer. I don't see this as different.

A person can be charged in some circumstances for failing to provide necessities of life. Is not distancing a possible charge?

What do psychos have to lose? If they take it home and kill their parents they likely inherit a bundle. Then party until they rot themselves while whining it isn't fair.

"It's my birthday." Yeah snowflake, along with about 25 million other people on the planet but you're special. Did you ever think about how much effort you put into being born? Seriously, why don't children give their parents presents to celebrate the date?

A little rambling and he repeats himself quite a few times but a decent vid from an american MD. ...
What was your take away?
- 80% of us will get sick with it 20% will likely pass from it, that adds up to 100% exposure people, and your little dog too.
- Nobody is going to kill or quarantine this bug in our lifetime,
- Don't create a good place for it to live.
- Specific medical procedures and practices are no longer an option as a result of the plague.
- People are kidding themselves to think this is just yet another flu virus that is going to pass as they usually have.

I think that's a little pessimistic. Everyone has some personal responsibility to keep themselves safe, if we all take that seriously and follow best practices we can beat this. It will take time to develop a vaccine, it's not impossible just takes time - until then extreme caution is in order.

If you don't practice safety, I guess you are at higher risk. If you do and you still catch the bug, that's a sad reality.

While this bug appears to be very communicable, it's doesn't jump more than 6' thru the air and if you keep your hands clean and out of your wet spots you have hugely mitigated your risk.

Stay clear of others. Wash your hands carefully and frequently. Disinfect surfaces like door and plumbing handles.

Or just get on your bike with a tent, fishing rod and a 22 then and ride off into the wilderness for a month.

I'm the most optimistic person you could ever meet and I'm afraid he is just being realistic.

"it's doesn't jump more than 6' thru the air" It doesn't jump at all, it is too small to even know what gravity is and shaped like a beach ball so it is well designed for travel.

This right here.

Considering that not 100% of the population is self isolating... over the years every one will get it.
So you gotta whether:
Be healthier during your lifetime
or
Be a lot more prone to getting sick and passing away at 60+

Life expectancy will probably drop a year or 2

In this corner we have March break celebrators and in the other corner we have people punching each other out over toilet paper. The referee has orange hair.

Some hospitals have had to lock up supplies. Staff members are raiding PPE and TP to have a supply at home. wtf. Tranferring PPE from your workplace where you have a very high chance of catching it to home where the odds are low.

Here's a good one for your list.

Gamestop has put in writing that they are an essential retail store and plan to stay open. Let em burn.

Either that doesn't apply to Canada, or my local EB games has chosen to break ranks. After today they're closed until who-knows-when.

I've found myself wondering if this is going to transmute into a common cold thing. i.e. it never goes away completely and always comes back year after year.
We have the markets crashing down around the world, people hoarding etc.. and this a virus with about a 4-6% mortality rate. Can you imagine a 15% mortality rate? People would degrade to SAVAGES in no time at all.

This has been updated and they were told to close and were not essential.
Pretty stupid of them to try and pull that off.
They will be the next Blockbuster, writing is on the wall for a while.

Strangely enough the TP problem isn't just a NA thing, I asked a friend in Peru, and she said people are buying it up there to.

If you need stocks to invest in, maybe the paper companies are a good buy?? ;)

Oz was out for more than a week before us. Schools are still open though.

Paper company is a day play, not long term. You only need 0.x rolls of toilet paper per person per day. All that is happening is people are pre-paying for the next year. Once the stupidity stops, the TP manufacturers may have to have their own Covid shutdown to deal with the hangover of full warehouses and very few buyers.

A bunch of my brothers country bumpkin friends continue to post very unhelpful things on facebook like "Gun owners thank non gun-owners for stocking up on supplies for them" and similar stupidity. I am sure it is in jest at this point, but by widely sharing it, some people may see it as an acceptable approach.

If it really goes downhill and society starts collapsing (which I highly doubt will happen with this), we have a plan to keep the family safe. Sure we may lose a lot of possessions as part of that plan, but the people matter much more.

As for 4-6%, I still think that number is grossly overstated. The people with limited symptoms never get tested which would bring the bottom half of the equation way up and the percentage way down. This is also statistically much worse for older people or people with co-morbidities. It is much scarier for the population if it doesn't matter who you are or how healthy you were, if you catch it you're &*^ed (like Ebola). In that scenario, people quickly lose their humanity.

Yeah people are thinking less than usual. I had to point out to someone who posted this thing about hand santizer being the same as antifreeze, and don't let your dog lick your hand.... c'mon. </facepalm>

I don't get the TP thing at all. If I'm going to hunker down for a few weeks of isolation I want a cache of food and some booze. A roll has 500 sheets of paper -- if you're using it to wipe your ass a 500 sheet roll should go at least a couple of weeks per person.

I LMAO yesterday watching a lady trying to return TP to Costco on Woodbine and 7-- she had about a skid worth piled onto a flat cart. Costco said no, she went ballistic.

Another one that means well and I think advocates for the correct approach but is straight-up incorrect on the logic is "the longer you don't comply with social distancing, the longer we're going to have to do it." Nop. Wrong. The longer we don't comply, the more people die. The higher the spike (or said another way, the less social distancing) the less time will be required for this to spread through the population.

Thumbs up costco. F em. She now has a lifetime supply. Or she can remember that humanity exists and donate her skid to a shelter.
