Could be an interesting debate. If any cell from an aborted fetus was used in any part of the research the final product is banned.

Can a lab order cells from a fetus aborted to save the mother's life?
Catholic rules are not something I know much about. In this particular case, the cell line used was from voluntarily aborted fetuses decades ago. You would think there would be a market opportunity to update the base cell line so the catholic church is not against you but I suspect ethics laws are in the way now.

For proof of per-existing conditions....

How would we have gone about that anyways? Would we have had to get a doctor's note, who pays for that, what stops a doctor from just giving everyone who asks a note? Maybe your doctor automatically sends a list to the government of patients at risk, what about privacy, what if the doctor misses someone and they get denied and then die of COVID? Do we just give the "system" access to everyone's health records, how much is that going to cost to process everyone and how long will that delay the vaccines? What about people that do not have a doctor (very common), all the above is broken for them. Personally I do not see how this can be enforced and why would doctors or anyone else want to be at risk of lawsuits etc.

IF we get all the vaccines they claim we will get in the next few months it is also a bit of a moot point because prioritization is only really required when there is a real shortage. They are doing prioritization now based on age and occupation, those are easy. The problem they have is they started down the path of prioritization (needed to) if they just open up the gates then the usual people will be all confused why did we do it before (same people still confused over masks and distancing....).

221 beds (presumably full?), unknown staff, not enough information in article.

Correct on lack of data

80% residents
65% staff
Time from shot to diagnosis

Those percentages have at least one dose. Much better data than the first article but still unknown how many people have two shots (or how long since shot two). 65% of staff is concerningly low.

Completely agree, there is a doctor at almost every clinic that will write you a note as you want.
I've had a doctor write two notes contradicting himself on the same day. (one note saying the patient needed accommodations and then another saying he was 100% well - both had the same date.)
Countless pre-written notes: he/she was not able to attend work/school due to being ill.
The current system just allows it to be easier to not follow the rules, but the rule breakers will always find a way regardless.

As per the BC example, 1.7M phone calls in three hours to try to register a pool of 80K eligible. This isn't just a few queue jumpers, this is the majority of the population acting as dbags. It completely jams the system and ruins any attempt at prioritization. You either need a better system for prioritization (each family doc gets doses for ~10% of their patient list for them to distribute as they see fit?) or ditch it and go by birth year as that is easy to administer. Half-ass prioritization just overwhelms the system and has a similar distribution to no prioritization.

Birth year is really the only workable solution, anything else will be even worse than what we (and they) have now.

There really is no better way to administer the shots as far as I can tell.

People will always do things to get ahead of others, human nature and all that jazz. Looking out for #1.

Same as CERB. Cheaters cheated and there’s literally no consequence.

don’t follow COVID guidelines? No enforcement

don’t want to quarantine in a hotel for 3 days? No problem

no consequences means no adherence by a large number of people.

You can’t fake the year (of course fake ID is an option).

Im just waiting until I’m eligible.

This is government here, putting in your healthcard number while booking seems entirely reasonable. Now, you could use your dad's health card to get your shot early and that is a prick move but at least you would be directly impacting someone you love. If the queue jumpers were directly affecting their loved ones instead of some theoretical random stranger, many would change their behaviour.

Don't want to give them the views on Youtube.

I do believe though, if they'd shut down Walmart during the lockdown, there would have been an injunction almost immediately to open it back up. The small Mom & Pop businesses can't afford to fight the government, so the lockdown seems selective, and at times, random. I would have like to see what would happen if they'd hit Brown with a fine for playing hockey during the lockdown. Or maybe not, as it would cost me.

Edit: No beer for you!

This is the problem with lockdown the way it is / was....the govt is picking winners and losers. Shorter working hours for big box, WTF will that achieve except cram more people into the same space.

I can’t find the source but Doug called the President of Walmart and was told it ‘would be a logistical nightmare to cordone off the non essential aisles in Walmart so let’s not do it.’

Total 100% ********. Walmart is the king of logistical challenges. They’re the best. They just don’t want to, and our govt is too friendly with them to actually squeeze them.

Hence mom and pop get ******. While Costco, Walmart and the like continue printing money.

Update: I did not buy a video game.

That is why I just wear the useless mask for a couple of minutes going into a store . There is no point arguing with front line people .

If I had an exemption and refused service . I would take the information down and file a complaint with human rights .

Agree.

As for the beer store freedom fighters, can't we make them to an educational class to cancel their first trespassing/public disturbance charge? Something that educates them on the rights they actually have vs the ones they think they have? Mu Freedumbs is a fantasy.
