It could always be worse. Lebanon followed the Douggie plan of relaxing at christmas (why did a single politician in the world think that was a good plan???) and now they are doing a hard lock down for 11 days.

At least the Lebanese had the stones to implement measures (now) that should be effective to reset their location on the curve. I can't imagine Douggie will do anything useful, just more waffling and causing pain with no real benefit.

Lebanese authorities tightened a nationwide lockdown Monday, including an 11-day, 24-hour curfew,

Lebanon had only just announced a nationwide lockdown last week. But many, including the health minister and officials on a government committee, considered it to be too lenient because it exempted many sectors, such as florists, plant nurseries and factories.

Critics have said uncoordinated and hesitant policies wavering between relaxing restrictions and shutting down were behind the failure to contain the virus.

For instance, despite a rise in infections, the government relaxed restrictions ahead of Christmas and New Year's celebrations, hoping to boost a crumbling local economy as thousands of Lebanese expats arrived in the country. Bars and nightclubs, which had been ordered shut for months, were allowed to open.

The spike in cases has exhausted the health care sector, prompting lawmakers and officials to call on the government to consider a 24-hour lockdown without exemptions, and to shut down the airport.

So there were two emergency daycares in our area for last week. Do get access you needed a parent that worked in a hospital I think. They expanded eligibility to law enforcement, teachers and some others. They are bringing another ~20 daycare centres online for those people. The daycares are staffing up and expect to be operating for quite a while.

Without a hard lockdown, this is going to suck for many many months (again).

My wife and all of her coworkers that received the vaccine have had pretty bad headaches and fatigue all week. Coworkers that did not get the vaccine did not have these symptoms.
Are the symptoms subsiding over time or still constant?
Any of her colleagues get any severe reactions?
Seeing those cases of Bells Palsy is scary...hopefully that paralysis is not permanent...

That’s the body healing it self, when you sleep so I’ve been told
Curious -from what I understand, this vaccine just carries an instruction set, not a batch of the weakened virus itself - no?

She feels a little better today (8 days post stab). No severe reactions among her colleagues. Bells Palsy sucks but is rarely permanent.

The current two vaccines have no virus. They are instructions to kill a protein on the outside of the virus. They do rev up your immune system as it is learning to attack the protein.

I suspect (with no real knowledge) that they dosed this differently than normal vaccines. As I understand it, with normal vaccine development they try to plot efficacy and side effects and pick the lowest dose that works. In this case, I suspect they went for the highest dose without huge side effect implications. They didn't have time to do amazingly thorough trials and they need to get this shut down ASAP. It seems worthwhile to accommodate some temporary fatigue now in exchange for more signficantly reducing symptoms (and hopefully transmission) in the future.

Thank you Sir.

This is the closest to what I've heard of anyone taking the vaccine.
Re-assuring to say the least!

Toronto is opening a vaccination clinic. Obviously the plan is to scale it with time, but the current implementation is basically a non-event. In the first six weeks, they are going to vaccinate ~5000 people (total).

I'm not sure if this will replace UHN as the Toronto vaccination site (IIRC they were doing ~250/day as well). It sounds like this may be in addition and adding capacity for workers outside of hospitals. Added capacity is good if JT can get the vaccines here, UHN supposedly ran out Friday and had to cancel all the weekend appointments.

Toronto officials said the City is set to open a makeshift, COVID-19 immunization clinic that will be run out of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The Toronto-run vaccination clinic will begin with frontline workers, offering roughly 250 doses per day for three weeks.

Second doses will be administered to the same people three-to-four-weeks later.

“This site will be focused on vaccinating people designated by the province as next in line for the vaccine, including frontline healthcare workers in our shelter system and public health workers who will work themselves as COVID-19 immunizers.”

I have a lot of Facebook friends in the healthcare field (as well as a few family members also eligible) and have seen probably close to 50 Facebook posts from them all regarding getting the vaccination.

Not one has posted after the fact about any significant side effects whatsoever aside from a sore arm for a day or so, and a sense of relaxation as the weeks go on that they're protected. Obviously they still all have to wear full PPE in their work environments, but the underlying fears of getting infected, or being unknowably infected and potentially spreading to others....is gone. That has to feel like a massive relief.

Wife to be was offered it, she declined. She works in OPS for now anyways in a hospital that's not even open yet.

Good point from PP about peace of mind, that's something you can't put a price on even if the results are yet to be determined.

You figure
How does having the vaccine, prevent you from being unknowingly infected and make you unable to spread it to others? Or did I just read that wrong

It probably helps, but tbd. Theoretically, it keeps your viral load lower which should mean you are spreading less. This is not necessarily true. It may just push most people to asymptomatic infection (ie reduce the percentage that experiences severe symptoms).

There's some info starting to come out that suggests it does have a positive effect against being a spreader, aside from being protected yourself.

But yes, to be completely fair, the jury is still mostly out.

Wife got her first of two shots last Tuesday, zero side effects, sore arm next day but that's with every shot for her. The 30 people in her staff have zero effects so far.
One dude is a drama queen and has an issue with everything so they don't count his feedback LOL

Hold onto your butts.
I think there is a very high probability he declares state of emergency again. The question is to what extent does he use that to lock things down? The lists Ontario has used during this whole pandemic of essential services is almost everything anyway, so enforcing the list has no real effect.

@Evoex you'll know better than most, what would happen if Douggie forced manufacturing to shut down? Does that start the penalty clock downstream or is there an exception for circumstances beyond your control (ie do typical contracts have a force majeure clause)? If Douggie caused US auto plants to shut for a few weeks, I don't see good things in the future for canadian automotive manufacturing.

We had many suppliers invoke force majeure previously, I assume they will do so again. Anyone who is a mfg for National Defense/critical infrastructure materials will almost certainly be exempt from shutting down and this trickles downstream to the guy who stocks an off the shelf M8 machine screw.

Now if we do shutdown...with Just In Time practice being followed by practically everyone, you would probably see OEM plants in the US shutting down within 3 days. I will say that some OEMs have probably been stocking up to withstand a disruption of some scale, we certainly have been.

OMA President is saying that doctors aren't trained to ration care. First of all, yes they are, they just haven't had to practice. Secondly, that could be a good use of the military. Use military doctors/combat paramedics to triage patients as they have experience with events where not everybody gets the care they may otherwise get in better circumstances.

If you are under 70 and healthy you are safe .

Lies, lies, and more lies.

Luke Letlow, 41, no known underlying health conditions. Dead. Tell his wife and kids he was safe.

Need to start censuring this outright BS IMHO.
