It's Science. We learn, we adapt, we act. And sometimes we get our panties in a bunch.
The problem is that it isn't science, it's political science, where appearance trumps reality.

You're more than welcomed to wander around outdoors without masks on and accept the consequences as they may/may not occur. Sign a waiver, say you accept the consequences of not wearing masks and thereby void any health care needed due to coronavirus...
Put on a mask when you go into a store to keep up the "appearances" as you say.

Fair deal?

While you take your family to a lab, put on different levels of protection, and have someone with covid cough on you, although I wouldn't recommend it?
Sign a waiver, say you accept the consequences, thereby proving one way or the other, which of the different masks actually do anything.

Until then we'll wear masks because there's a possibility that they might work.
We're dependent on how good and how close the simulations are, as well as, how many proper ones there are out there.

Just for the record, in the outdoors you don't need a mask unless you're near someone else and can't maintain social distancing. Otherwise, despite seeing people driving in their cars alone and walking alone in places like parks wearing masks, it's almost completely pointless.

As for N95's, what's forgotten by many is that the true 2-way benefits of an N95, and it's overall effectiveness, relies on it being fit properly to the wearer - it MUST seal on the persons face, and it not all models are suitable for all peoples face shapes. My wife is certified to do fit-tests - one of her many skills that justify all the letters after her name. Probably upwards of 75% of people wearing N95's in public right now are gaining little benefit versus just wearing a fabric mask as the N95 isn't maintaining a skin tight fit.

Watching the news today and some European countries have signs in city centres and towns where masks should be worn outdoors.

I've been reading some alarming science recently about new research on airborne transmission of Covid and I’m hoping what I read was an outlier otherwise masks outside even might not be such a bad idea.

Some statistics out of the UK on rates of transmission to shop workers too which was quite shocking. Cashiers and shop workers were 60-75% more likely to get infected. This is before compulsory masks in stores.

I think if it was truly airborne there's no way we'd have squashed the curve the way we have - it would just be spreading far too easily and rapidly.

Does that mean it might not travel further than the 6 feet social distancing thing we've been told to adhere to? That's possible. We are still learning about it and the science can and probably will change - it's entirely possible we may be told to maintain 8 or 10 feet if they find 6 feet is too little.

The mandatory plexi shields that came along with Stage 2 have been clearly proven effective as we aren't seeing drastic rates of infection in people who are regularly dealing with the public, even for the significant period of time Stage 2 was a thing before masks became mandatory.

It was time more than distance that was the worrying thing. Time in the air as a transmissible particle.

I don’t think the UK had plexiglass shields initially.

I think all COVID stats from the UK are shocking.

NHS response and management of the COVID was tragic.

Am I being critical?

I know someone who is delaying progress on construction jobs based on COVID. In reality his risk factor is probably lower than going shopping. He's enjoying a COVID excuse.

I wonder how many others, including companies, are slacking off and blaming COVID when it's just deferral. I know computers get viruses but not COVID. I've been waiting four months for the bank to correct an error.

Also have to be clean shaven to get the most benefit of a mask, otherwise they dont seal properly(this is why all the hospital employees are clean shaven)

Amazing. Another stellar performance by law enforcement. 21,422 cases of travellers potentially breaking quarantine referred to police. 9 tickets issued. No arrests. I don't expect that all 21,422 are guilty but I strongly suspect that with a little effort you can find more than 0.04% that are. The $1000 tickets are beyond a joke, especially when you factor in the odds of getting caught.

A minority of people are just totally selfish. Asking them to comply won’t work....they need to be slapped with fines and deported and listed as unwelcome guests in Canada and never allowed to enter again. Sorry to be harsh but either we have a public health emergency or we don’t.

Cancelled our trip. Flight is suspended and we can use it for all of 2021 but no voucher. Buddy got 75% of his value back which I would prefer but not sure why he was given the option and we weren’t. Some of these airlines won’t survive so his deal looks better.

This is why I like my American Express card - if I bought a ticket for something that was supposed to be refundable (if it was clearly listed as otherwise, well, all bets are off) and the company only offers a credit or voucher, well, I'd be on the phone to Amex and have a chargeback/reversal completed inside 30 minutes or so on the phone. They're awesome when it comes to taking care of their customers.

@PrivatePilot that would be a great idea...IF the plane flight was cancelled and LOT didn't want to refund my money. Unfortunately due to the Polish gov't opening the skies, my flight was actually confirmed that it's going forward. Had I been on a 4pm or earlier flight, I could have gotten out of it.

Ah well...not the end of the world so we can fly next year if I don't get my money back.

Total time spent on hold: 6hrs
Total time speaking with rep: 10min

Anyhow, on the next episode of "The stupid and selfish", some d-bag organization in the province is printing off fake "Mask medical exemption cards" and handing them out to any selfish ******* who wants to play by their own rules.

Thing is, retailers are increasingly wise to these and should be turning them away at the door. Have a legitimate medical issue? Fine, we're happy to accommodate you - give us a list of what you need and we'll pick it up off the shelves for you and give you a call when it's ready for pickup, or better yet, use the delivery service for those businesses who offer it.

When the maskholes get the same answer though and suddenly it's an inconvenience because they can't go in and unnecessarily browse around for an hour or two, well, fully expect hissy fits and childish antics, followed by making a miraculous recovery from their "medical issue" and they put on a mask anyways and continue on. Then some will surely pull it off anyways because they think they've "fooled the system". Then they should be ejected and banned from the store. **** off.

Much like the travellers who can't be bothered to quarantine properly, it's time to hit people where it hurts - fines, and bans. Want to act like a child? Fine. But don't complain when you get treated like one.
