Updates on QC.

Not just Gatineau has border control. Other crossing locations across the province are turning people away (you can get out but you aren't allowed in). If anyone is trying to head to La Belle Province, try to get some intel first as it may not happen.

I bought a new set of highway pegs for my new ride off a guy in Gatineau via Kijiji. I actually considered riding out there to pick them up (because I like long rides and 2 buddies and I actually rode to Gatineau for lunch one day last year simply for ***** and giggles) but when I mentioned that to the seller he responded I probably wouldn't be able to get across the bridges as there are police blockades.

I opted to just have him ship them instead.

"In New Orleans, home to America’s worst per-capita COVID-19 death rate, the mayor said she’d have cancelled Mardi Gras last month if only the federal government had warned her."

Oh my, just a little bit slow on the up take, the whole world warned you dum-dum and you just chose to ignore the signs for economic benefits. Now you get to lead the world in mortality rate :(

Lets all remember the governor of Georgia just "discovered" about 4 or 5 days ago that Covid can be spread by asymptomatic carriers.

What a shitshow down there.

April is the golf and beach tourism season in Georgia and North Carolina (the Masters should be going on right now). Their version of Spring Break.

So the isolation continues in my home. Not much has changed in past 2 1/2 years because of my wife's condition.Since her release from the hospital on Mar3 we haven't had any contact from any health professional.Yesterday the WWHLIN Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) calls and asks if i would like some assistance taking care of her.Twice a week for bathing dressing etc. The PSW that would do this is i'm sure trained and very good at what she does. Her other patients are mostly elderly.Am i paranoid to say no thanks?

If you can manage on your own, I would continue doing that. If you need help (and there is no shame in that), take the help. The risk is probably low but non-zero that the PSW brings it into your house.

Are you being paranoid? From my limited understanding of your wife's condition I would say no. Key words in that sentence are limited understanding. I honestly wouldn't feel comfortable giving you advice either way.

You're being rightfully cautious, not paranoid. The PSW doesn't want to get themselves sick or presumably their families, so I'm sure they take every precaution.

Would you like some assistance taking care of her?

You can get respite. You almost should have some respite.
You could go riding.

There now we perplexed you completely, sorry about that.
The person calling you is the assessment nurse, their job is to assess your needs,
the services they arrange for you can be anything they can contract to some place like VON or whatever.

I just had an online order cancelled for some hand sanitizer. I’m not too surprised but I am a little ****** off. When all this is over there’s a few things need looking at.

Delivery systems need to be more robust. Anything I’m ordering online is a **** show right now. Ghost inventory, delivery dates massively into the future etc. I understand that demand is outstripping supply right now BUT in this crisis it is a public health issue. If I can’t get things delivered to my home I need to go out. If I go out there’s a not insignificant risk of transmission to me and a prolonging of the crisis. I'm sure some sick people are also being forced into going out for necessities.

Grocery store delivery dates are booking for two weeks away in my area. Again, I’m not surprised BUT it needs looking at.

I don’t buy that there’s supply shortages of some PPE in all jurisdictions. I suspect that there is now profiteering on a larger scale than we are aware of going on. I know of a sale for an online electronics supplier taking place soon where packs of 15 masks are given as a bonus for any purchase on that day. Yes the profits are being given to healthcare services but this seems a bit odd considering the lack of availability to the public and to healthcare professionals.

Brick and mortar stores are struggling to adapt. Canadian Tire online sales last year.....3%

Now.....100%

I think your expectation is what needs adjusting in the short term.

Didnt the province or country just sign up with amazon to be their official distributor of emergency supplies? They arent a bad choice for distribution might but I hope there is some government oversight for fairness in price and distribution.

I understand the issues and temper my expectations. I am sympathetic but as I mentioned, the shortfall feeds in to the actual crisis we are having. There should centralized support for all deliveries at this time to keep people from mingling.

Someone high up should have seen this as an absolute priority (highest priority) at the same time as social distancing was put out as a solution to the crisis. To be clear, I’m not talking about toys and treats deliveries, I’m talking about anything that prevents the need to venture out and have contact with strangers.

I know they are doing their best right now. I’m just venting, but there needs to be a plan in place for this in the future.

Took advantage of the CT online/phone order system this week. Honestly they were great about it. I called to order something for my son, and they called me back within 15min that it's ready for pickup.

Went to the store, called the number, and both of my orders came out straight to my trunk within 5 min.

Spoke with the young man bringing the stuff out and he said it's been great, keeping busy, and he's happy to still have a job. I thanked him and wished him luck, as I know I'll be going back for more.

I think as we adjust to this new reality in the short term it'll take some time, but I think adversity will bring out ingenuity in our supply chains very quickly.

My parents had their grocery delivery arrive in a fire truck the other day. Small town, grocery store delivery dates at a week or more due to lack of capacity (both filling and delivering). Obviously everyone is doing what they can when you have fire fighters with groceries. Thumbs up.

As a starting point, having split websites would help a lot. Order from crisis.amazon.ca and get it very quickly. That website has flour, bread, sanitizer, wipes, plumbing repair etc. Amazon.ca would still exist with the full catalogue but shipping would only happen when crisis orders are caught up. As it is, everything is muddled together and some poor sod on the other end is trying to assign priority. If I order sanitizer and a tennis racket do I go in the high priority or low priority pile?

Are laid off delivery workers for one company with non essential goods being hired for ones with increased delivery needs for essential goods? In a free market economy I don’t even know how you would even easily facilitate that unless there’s established networks? What about union issues during a crisis? Can this be done on a freelance contractor basis? These are things that should be addressed for any future crisis like this.

I am absolutely grateful to anyone doing any kind of delivery during these times. I think their contribution to “flattening the curve” is paramount.

Ever been to Louisiana? If so you might understand how they got into this situation. It's poor, with a lot of concentration in cities. It has the most unhealthy population in the country. Governance is historically parochial, also in the bible belt where faith is a formidable competitor to science.

The American version of a wet market for a virus.
