Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

Im clear on everything except 2 things
1) Going over railroad tracks, the book says i need to stand up using footpegs a bit. is it true? Im taking a test @ Aurora and they have go-train tracks there
2) Which Tire track i should be in entering the ramp? Since im in the right lane, left track, do i stay in the left tire track close the the yellow line?

What are the speed limits on North service rd, King rd, plains rd east

all in burlington ontario?

1) Yes , slow down and rise up a bit on the pegs to show the tester you know the correct procedure for dealing with such an obstacle.
2) Stay in the left tire track on the ramp .

Also , don't speed or go too slowly , and MOVE YOUR HEAD CONSTANTLY looking for traffic . Try to relax . Hope this helps . Good luck .

Alright guys I just joined the GM group!!! :):):) Just came back from the Brampton test center and passed. Got 6 marks against me. Just want to say thanks to all the people who posted there reviews. Really helped me with my test.

There was a link for the route for the Brampton test. The route I took was a little different.

All in all the test was pretty easy. Just go crazy with your shoulder checks/mirror checks. Stay in the correct tire track. Follow speed limit and you should pass. There was a lady before me who failed. I asked her just before I went what she did wrong. She said she was in the wrong lane all the time. I asked "tire track" and she replied "whats a tire track" DUH!!! Someone did'nt prepare!!!

Thanks again to all the posts!!!!

Hey, were you on the red cbr?
I think I spoke to you after my test. Congrats.

Passed @ Downsview. Quite easy.
Coming out of the test centre, the route goes right on Sheppard, right on Allen, right to 401 west, right to Keele, right again to get back to the test centre. There was a loop through the residential streets (incl. school zone) on the west side of Keele. Previously, someone described the loop being in the industrial zone off Sheppard.

I accelerated up to 110 on the highway to keep up with the flow of traffic, and the instructor didn't seem to have a problem with that. Only got marked down for not checking traffic at stop/street lights (even though i was doing the left-right-left head turn at every stop)... i guess they had to mark me down for something...

If you know how to ride well and can follow the rules and instructions, you'll pass. Check the chapter outlining the M2X test in the official handbook for a refresher.

Hey,
I just got my M this week! Thank you very much to everyone who posted their advice, it also saved me from taking an M2 exit course, I figured the M1 course was enough.

I took my test in St. Catharine's because Toronto (and around) was booked for another 3 weeks. It wasn't too hard and the examiner was a nice guy to deal with. If you take it there, know that right now there's construction around the area and on the QEW but they took routes that tried to avoid it and it didnt really interfere with anything, so it wasn't a problem. Also, I dont know about other peoples recent experiences but nether I nor the person before me had to do any roadside stop, I just had to drive through the residential area.

Thanks again for all the tips guys!

just had my M test @ downsview this morning, im glad i went with the ministry instead of the safety courses. Saved my self a few hundred just like that. The route was exactly as others posted. Get out of downsview park, right turn onto shepperd, right turn onto Allen Rd, right turn onto 401 west, exit Keele st, Right turn back into shepperd, and a road-side stop in the residential / industrial area in between . I lost marks for being too slow (well slower than traffic anyways). I asked the examiner before the test if he wanted me to keep traffic pace or obey the speed limit. All he said was just do what is safe and within the law. So i chose to obey the speed limit instead I figured I cant get penalized for obeying the speed limit. Other than that not much issue at all and there was minimal wait time.

For others thinking about the course dont even bother. Just book an appointment with the ministry, and read through this thread as well as the M1 book. If you want to be safe you can go an hour or 2 before your test and just ride around the route so you get used to the route and the environment.

Goodluck to all

Both my hubby and I took our test in Burlington, we both passed. As long as you are comfortable riding on the road, the test is not an issue. We asked before the test if they want us to get off the bike etc for the roadside stop. My husband was told to put the bike in neutral, stand down, then turn around to them. My examiner wanted to dismount to show them the bike was stable on it's own. I recommend asking before so you know eactly what is expected. We went on different days and had different examiners.

We were also told to blend with the traffic on the highway, they will fail you if you go too slow while merging, they want to see comfort during higher speeds, up to 110.

The speed limit as soon as you leave the centre is 60, then 50 on King Rd. We both borrowed our friend's SV so there would not be any issues with our gxr....authorities seem not to like the sportbikes. Oh well, passed anyways!!

Good luck to the rest of you!

Got My M today in Brampton
EZ
when pulling over for a stop, don't leave your right hand signal ON....they'll mark it
keep pace with traffic in highway...other than that was fun...
GM :)

Passed the test yesterday at Vic Park and the DVP. Thanks for this thread, it was helpful...

Just passed today. Unlike most of the people posting, I had 15 deductions. The tester called them "minor" but still, it was weird seeing that sheet with tick marks all over it. I signaled too late (almost every single time) and had some "tire track" infractions. I think its cause I was so intent on moving my head and checking my mirrors, I would zig zag a little. How dumb!

Anyway, I did it at the Aurora site and the route is as described in previous posts. The tester was a grizzled sailor-looking dude named Jim (complete with yellow slicker). I didn't feel he was out to fail me. The road side stop was in an industrial area on a fairly steep hill. He did not ask me to get off the bike.

Good luck everyone and thanks for all the good advice. I don't know that I could have done it on my own!

i originally did my m test @ the downsview location... which i failed... but the guy was a total *** and couldn't speak english properly... oh well... $75 bucks down the drain

just re-did my m-test yesterday in oshawa... which had more stuff involved in the test... such as 2 emergency stops and going on the highway twice and other things which the tester mentioned first of everything that i needed to do... and to which i was thinking to myself "oh boy, time to re-book another m test after this one".. lol, since the 1st test i only had to do everything once.

as with everybody else on here.. there are things on the test which i don't normally do when riding.... and i have no problems riding @ all.. just hate being on the spot..

but in the end i passed... only got 7 errors... in which i have no idea how many u need to fail... but none-the-less... the M is all i need... done is done.

I passed my test Sept 25. I did it in St.Catharines. I did not have to do any emergency stops or pull to the side of the road either.

Examiner was a really nice guy and he explained everything beforehand to put me at ease. Only problem I had was the ear piece falling out of my ear.

Hey guys, here are my questions which I need your help on:

1) When making a left turn at a traffic light intersection, in a car, you are not allowed to angle the car left and you need to keep the wheels straight ahead, so that if you get hit from behind, you won't get pushed into oncoming traffic. Is this the same for a bike? Of course, with proper blocking position and keeping the bike straight, you would have no chance to see oncoming traffic if there was an oncoming car turning left.

2) I have a very aggressive blocking position. For example, on a road with two lanes going the same direction, my right handle bar will be right over the middle line. Do you think the tester will see this as extra safe or too aggressive?

3) They are looking for you to keep your brake light on when stopped at a light. I picked up the habit of pulsing my brake light because a flashing light is easier to notice than a solid light. I am going to try not to do it, but do you think they will dock me for that?

4) On a two lane road coming to a stop sign to make a right turn, if you are riding the proper blocking position (left tire track), are you supposed to move over to the right tire track before you stop to make the right turn or do you stay in the left tire track? If you stay in the left, the car behind you might think you are going straight and try to squeeze by you to go right. That could be trouble.

Thanks for your help. I will post the Burlington route right after I take the test.
