Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

Well I did my M2X last week, passed with 10 points being taken off. Huge thank you to this forum for all the tips, suggestions etc.

The test was in St. Catharines in the pouring rain. A couple of the point dings I think are bogus but such is life. I was told I didn't accelerate quick enough to get on the highway - there was a transport truck coming up quick, in the construction zone near Ontario St., with no-one behind. So I didn't gun it and played it safe and pulled in behind him. Examiner told me that wasn't safe and that I should have floored it and pulled in front of the truck ... um yeah sure.

They also dinged me for not riding in the proper lane after exiting the QEW at Niagara St. The road is ripped up, no lane markings and it looks with barriers it is about 1.5 lanes wide, so I rode it like it was 1. Apparently it is actually 2 lanes there but I shouldn't worry about losing points there as 9 out of 10 people do lose points.

What I did find weird is he never asked me to show him my horn, signal, brake lights etc. worked. Just on the bike and go. I let him know up front my bike has mph on the speedometer, not kmh, and is registered in South Carolina where I spend some time - didn't care at all and commented that he would give me a 10 km/h leeway on the highway as a result, less so in the city.

Again thanks for the comments and help in this thread.

Did you go through the Ministry or as part of a course?

Can somebody tell me if you have to do a u-turn on this test?

My bike has a long wheelbase making it challenging to do so in close quarters so wondering if I will need to borrow a bike or not.

Thanks in advance!

I didn't have to do any u-turns. Fairly straight forward. No worries.

thx to this site and all the people posting helpful comments. did my test at downsview today and passed. 12 pts, which is more than what i had thought but pass is a pass so not fussed.

thought i was making my mirror and blind spot checks obvious but not enough b/c i got dinged for a few. also, pretty sure i was on right tire track but got dinged for that as well. try to avoid rush hour test times if you can b/c it will make changing lanes a bit more difficult.

route was as described in earlier post. east on sheppard, down allen, 401 west, up keel w/ detour in residential area and back to test site.

good luck to others testing soon.

This is something that you can practise and that is taught at the Humber College Pro Rider course, if you ever take it. If you drag your rear brake and use it to control your speed in conjunction with the throttle, then you can ride at very low speeds. At low speeds if you do this and lean the bike over while staying upright yourself, then you can get good enough to turn the bike in a tighter radius than you would even be able to walk it.

for an emergency stop, am i suppose to get off to the left or right of the bike?

I would presume the left, you want make sure you get off the bike and give the handlebar a tug to make sure the bike is secure on the kickstand. Don't know why you want to get off on the right hand side.

i don't know... maybe they'll say its dangerous to step into the road...

who knows, these text book stuff sometimes doesn't make sense... like having to go and move my head a lot just to show that i am looking here and there...

I did my test at Downsview last night.

The route has been noted here before. I took the same one clockwise.

I only had one weird portion. On sheppard after the 2nd light or so, it was a stale yellow following a truck, bizarre situation. Examiner practically ran the red. They pulled in front of me and pulled me over. I thought I was cooked for the light. The problem was the radio wasnt working. I was just going over the described route even though they were telling me instructions that I couldnt hear.

We fixed the radio and went on our way. I felt like all I did was check mirrors and blind spots, never even looking forward. I still got dinged on blind spot checks and head movement. But I passed.

I took my m1 course 3 years ago with RTI. I think that was a great investment. I got my first bike on May 8th and had my M on July 7. If you are a good rider/driver then this test should be no problem.

When I did my emergency stop, I was warned ahead of time by the testing guy NOT to get off the bike. He didn't want me to step into traffic. All I had to do was do the emergency stop and then spread my arms and legs out to show I was not in control of the bike (i.e. hands not on grips, feet not on pegs etc.).

Thanks for the tip. I have no problems turning normally but I'm riding a Harley now with a long wheel base, and believe me, you can not make a small radius turn on this thing.

My test is in a couple of weeks in Aurora. I was going to borrow a buddy's sport bike, because it's easier to ride, but I think I will just go wing it and remember to move my head noticeably. I just hope I can hear their instructions with my loud exhaust!

I've seen a ST1100 go in circles of maybe a 10 foot radius and a Goldwing turn low enough to grind plastic off. You can do it too, but you have to believe it and practise. The more the bike is leaned over, the smaller the effective radius of your tire.

The best answer would be before you take the test is to ask the examiner what he/she is specifically looking for when you are performing an emergency stop. Someone mentioned in this thread that they didn't even have to dismount, i know in my test i was told to get off the bike.

Took my test last friday in Orillia, very easy course, only a two line highway and the tester explained everything very well before. This thread was a great help thanks

Hi All,

Just got a few general questions here hopefully someone can answer me since I am having my exam in few days...

1. When riding in community normally the lane will be wider, which can possibly fit two cars. Where should I am riding?? In the middle right tire track?

2. When I am asked to perform emergency stop, how far away from the curb should I stop my bike?? 1/2 a meter? Also, if there is a "no parking" sign along the road can I still do emergency stop? I am guessing is yes as long as there is no fire holes there. And should I leave the signal on after I put down my kick stand?

Thanks in advance.

Going for my M on Monday at the Vic pk. / Lawrence location.
Anyone have tips / hints, or know the route that is taken from that Drive Center?

maybe a stupid question...

but when doing a right turn, and its a green light, do i still have to stop before the white line just like it is red?

Thanks,

Nope.

Hey everyone.

Been lurking for a little while.

Read this entire post and don't see much mention of the Burlington test site. Anybody give me a clue as to the route?

Cheers

Jthree
