Const. James Forcillo shot Sammy Yatim - the trial

That is key.... Best they can. They could have closed the doors and contain him until WITH TIME they could have come up with a plan that did not require 9 bullets and a taser.

Nice to have time for answers after the situation is done . I didn't know part of police training is to know where the door controls are on a street car .

so the guy allegedly is on drugs... what recreational drugs would make him a better knife fighter?

he could have been mentally ill which caused issues with the drugs or if not on drugs caused issues on it's own.

the rcmp managed to calmly take down a guy who actually killed someone and ate parts of his body on a greyhound with no shots fired, so it's not like dealing with someone who's a little nuts on public transit is a new thing.

you think the streetcar operator just ran away off into the night and went home? he was likely at a close but safe distance and could inform the officers of what button or knob to press.

So you are saying that a life is of so little importance that a cop can not be bothered to "find out" where the door closes before shooting 9 shots? No one can get a hold of someone on the TTC and ask, the driver was not around? they couldn't radio anyone?

Guy was inside the street car, he never came out so there was no need to shoot so fast. The point you seem to not understand is that there was time for them to make a better determination of what to do, no one was in immediate danger.

This is the point that drives me nuts, you said "Nice to have time for answers after the situation is done" THEY HAD TIME but they chose to be the cowboy with a small dick and let their emotions and ego get the best of them, hence the out of control swearing and screaming.

If you don't get that then there isn't much I can say to you or anyone else.

Ya emotions get the best of them- "THEY HAD TIME but they chose to be the cowboy with a small dick and let their emotions and ego get the best of them, hence the out of control swearing and screaming."

Using a knife to kill someone does not take skill on drugs or not .

Out west shows you what can happen with a mentally ill person and a knife .

Again if only the police had a pause button . To sit with you on your couch and think of different ways to resolve the situation .

what need of a pause button, the guy's on the street car, they can stay off the street car, no one is going anywhere... if the rcmp could figure it out, one would hope the toronto cops could figure it out.

out west vince li, who is mentally ill managed to kill tim mclean, sitting beside him with a large knife, tim was sleeping in the very back seat when attacked. the bus was traveling on the highway at that point and everyone else managed to get off the bus unharmed. this guy on the tcc had a folding pocket knife and had not actually been proven to hurt someone...

Just wow. So you're basically green lighting any police action because no pause button ever? "It was too fast I couldn't think" But the video shows la dee da. "It was too fast I couldn't think" Oh, ok.

Different way number 1: Don't shoot unless you have to.

No one should need a pause button to figure that out.

you are right......emptying a mag is a much better solution

This is getting old . I'm not giving the officer a green light to shoot . But I get the situation . Unless you have been in a life and death situation . You don't know how you will react . I see a knife and danger . The officer reacted to protect himself and others . If it's excessive the court will discide .

After the fact it's easy to quaterback . But in real time it's different .

"The officer reacted to protect himself and others". But he was not the only cop there. How come no other officer decided to shoot?

And Forcillo didn't shoot only once... he showed absolutely no restrain.

How do you explain his reaction, when you have 30 other cops next to him that were cool, and did not shoot?

Did the other officers had a "pause button"?

Did Forcillo have to do an immediate drug test?

Was he wired and on the absolute edge and someone behind him said "Boo"?

There are two trials going on here. One in a courtroom and the other on the streets / forums. The trial in the courtroom will judge Forcillo. The trials on the street will judge the system.

I think they get trained and paid enough to follow the procedure so they react correctly......like the other 20 cops.

He knew exactly how to react. He yelled "Take one step towards me and I'll pop you" or something to that effect. He was in complete control of himself and decided to assert his superiority by laying down an arbitrary line that his ego, not his safety, relied upon. After waiting around (pause button), when Yatim crossed that line Forcillo had to own up to his words and shoot him. Again, nothing to do with anyone's safety.

No one here was there . The only information conveyed to police is a man with his dick hanging out threatening people with a knife . I'm not sure if he had information someone was hurt or not .Forcilo will needs to explain his actions in court . Not on this forum to arm chair quaterback hero's .

One again if you have not been in a situation where you face serious threat to your life . You have no idea how you will react .

I get the situation even others don't .

In that case rush right over and shoot somebody. I was not there. I've been other places but not there.

I know there were lots of video angles and dozens of people including other cops but were you there? I hope the trial judge was there.
