Last year's stats are an outlier in an overall downwards trend. No one has been able to explain it at it seems unique to Toronto. If there's a new, increasing violence trend it will take a few years to become identifiable.

In the meantime, the data can only be used by politicians to spin stories of scary spiraling violence and the need for more cops and more intrusive laws.

Besides, do you ever expect the cops to get engaged in a shootout with gangsters before their armoured and militarized backup arrives? No way.

The conviction of attempted murder pertains to Forcillo's second volley of gunshots.
Forcillo was not found culpable in the first round of shots (Second degree/manslaughter.)

You're reading it wrong. He was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter. You're supposed to be outraged.

So Forcillo is guilty of attempting to murder someone he ended up killing. huh? Or are they implying the Yatim was dead before the 2nd volley and because Forcillo thought he was still alive it was his intent to kill him but he was already dead?

Oh i know. But after seeing cop after cop getting away with murder down south and being let go without any conviction, make me feel slightly better to see our system is not completely rigged. Just somewhat rigged.
