To give an example of how moderation is inherently subjective, this comment COULD be interpreted as "insulting another member". But ... in the context of the situation, the statements made would appear to have at least some element of truth to them. Can the truth be an insult?

In the interest of free speech, I'm not going to do anything about it.

It's funny how moderation works - here we have a member flat out calling another member an idiot, which clearly is an attack at a personal level, but yet my very first infraction on this board was simply due to the fact I insinuated that another member smelled like an old dude...

But, I do agree with your statement that moderation is a subjective task to be undertaken (which is at the center of a few people's argument that some of the subjectivity should be taken out and governed by some form of rules versus just simple bias).

Carry on, I'm but a bystander here.

if i am on the forum at the time, i do a refresh to see if any new and interesting threads/posts appear.

if one of those threads happens to be one that i've posted in, i check it.

does this mean that when i'm not on the forum i think of it? uh, no.

I see a member asking another member two questions, whether another member is a liar or an idiot. That's not an insult. That's a request for information.

No one has called you a name (although claiming someone has IS a card you like to play frequently). Now whether you care to answer caboose's questions is another matter. My money's on not.

no need to come to my defense. i truly could not care less what another member thinks of me. i've been called a lot worse in real life, nevermind an internet forum where i'll never meet these people in real life. what i have a problem with is when admin/mods are not impartial and are inconsistent with their application of the rules.

the fact that you have decided that there is "an element of truth" in those statements says an awful lot about you, since you don't know anything about me, but have chosen in this case to allow it.

face it, you know nothing about me, but your personal bias caused you to allow a member to make an attack on another member.

as for the 'element of truth' in me being either a liar or an idiot, i will gladly stack the veracity and intelligence of my posts against any of the members that have attacked me. . .

all i have done in this thread is challenged the racism, the hate speech, and the mod/admin team that apparently condones it, and now condones personal attacks against me.

if you wanted to disprove the claims that the standards applied on this site are applied inconsistently, then this was a terribly poor way to do it.

i think the issue here is that you somehow don't make the distinction between a person (me) and their behaviour (in this case, what they have posted).

you do understand the difference, right?

when someone posts to enter into discourse about what i've written, then i engage. if they choose instead to make it personal and write about me, i don't take it seriously. how can anyone?

face it, if we put everyone who has responded to my posts onto a subway car in toronto, and i walked in, none of you would know who i was. why then should i care what any of you think of me?
