Chicken strips among Toronto sport bikes

Hmm...I wonder why would anyone own a sport bike only for commuting?! Commuting PLUS the weekend twisties---I get it, but 100% commute as demonstrated by the unused rear portions in downtown Toronto?! I don't get it. There are better bikes for that kind of riding..

I live in Hamilton where the on ramps are not the only corners; I hang off the bike and effectively reduce lean angle, and I know that because without hanging off, even getting close to the same speed, immediate feedback for slipping a bit...and I'm only Level 3. Judging by what I see downtown, we need a scale from -7 to 7 ;) but....i'd better stop slacking right now, obviously nobody's hiring me based on chicken gauges :[

Took this pic after the 2nd ride at last new rear tire change, and I am both afraid and not skilled enough to go as fast as many others I've been on a ride with from this forum...so i REALLY don't get the 10 cm unused portion on the bikes downstairs..

Really? That much? You're a discredit to Assassin's famous "advanced" rides.

Truth.

The profile of the tire is a factor too. I got the BT-16 rear down to the edge on my MONSTER in like the first week! But the Pirelli Corsa 3's I've been running on the Daytona? Forgitabout it! Still got a few mm left.

Ok, this makes a lot of sense actually. My tire is bt-16, and it's the 190/50. Had it been a 55%, steeper, my strips would be bigger, no doubt! But you really gotta look around---my original post at the top---the strips I see downtown are so freakin' big, seems unreal, even pushing the bike in the garage would wear off those sides more...

Not too shabby for everyday street riding, not too shabby at all! Looks like your hitting the power well too, judging by that edge tearing on the trailing edge of that tread / sipe.

My guess is this is the type of rider you're referring to......

I'm hoping to get rid of mine at Lee Parks tomorrow...

I think there is a small business opportunity here:

I'll be starting a new venture....bring your bike by and for $50 I'll get you that street credit you're after. My competitor Reciprocity claims he will "fix your broken tires", but what he fails to tell you is that you'll be left with less than a summer season's worth of rubber, even for a TO commuter.

My service is local, and limited to a couple hours of service. You'll have it back to your local Tims in time for your Saturday night pose down, and won't interefere with your work week commuting schedule. I can even provide a mobile service, where I'll come to your regular day time parking spot, and over a lunch hour your credit rating will dramatically be improved.

Alternatively you could invest in "take offs" or "scrubs" but that will set you back at least $150.

This thread makes baby jesus cry!

lol ^^^

Best comment ever, younger guy tip toeing a shiny newish zx6r through a parking lot with the biggest chicken strips you've ever seen. Guy points "You'd think at some point, somewhere he'd have to go around a corner, but nope guess not."

I'm not sure you can handle all the business, you need a partner to help with the "work"

Let's start distributing business cards in spokes of all the downtown riders.

I'll even take business from scooters, ebikes, and cruisers. Added introductory bonus...all cruisers will receive, free of charge, scraped pegs!

Wait, isn't this chicken strip thread a bit late in the season? I thought this was usually and April or May tradition?

It's surprising manufacturers don't mold scuffs into new tires and capitalize on the shame.

Squared-off tires are more annoying though.

Wouldn't be surprised if people took you up on it, lol.

Exactly, one would think chicken strips would be extinct by now, but alas!

Just walking around in the lunch break downtown Toronto, checking out the millions of parked bikes around the office. Can't help but notice how riders are using just the middle of their tires, it's like big *** meaty 10 cm chicken breasts on the sides, lol.... What's the matter, lack of good roads or what? I can't imagine going even turtle speed and retain such strips on the sides of the rear, how is it even possible?!

"Chicken strips" = riding for years to come and enjoying your bike safely, legally and responsibly.

No "chicken strips" = riding like an idiot, irresponsible, breaking speed limits, placing yourself and others in danger.

The only way to get rid of these meaningless strips while riding on our GTA roads is by breaking speed limits and riding dangerously.

In the end, the choice is yours really, personally I choose responsible and cautious riding which means I too have one inch chicken strips on my bike and am proud of that fact, considering I've been riding for 10 years and never crashed or went down (so far, knock on wood).

I disagree..you can get rid of them on on-ramps without exceeding the speed limit..and I can do it without riding dangerously..
