I noticed there were very few poppies in sight.
I partly blame the legion. There is an easy solution to the crap pin they sell. Instead of embracing a better design, they go after people that sell the tack pin upgrade. At least offer it as an option to people and you would see a lot more poppies around. I know I am like most here, I am constantly changing coats and/or having the poppy fall out.

If the purpose is fundraising, the poppy is a symbolic token and don't be concerned if not everybody is wearing one. If the purpose is remembrance as well as fundraising, increase your costs by a few cents and sell a quality product. Hell, require a >$5 donation to get the good pin, or maybe offer a enamel lapel pin for $20. I know I would buy a bunch of ones that didn't disappear (and continue to toss money in in future years without needing to make more plastic garbage).

LOL. Important to whom?

The Legion uses the money for their many Veteran programs. It’s not like the current government is going to fund them. They’re currently fighting the Vets in court over their pension increase request

Fighting the vets because they dont have enough money to give them.

Plenty of money for the fake refugees flying into the US, taking a cab ride to the Quebec border and then being chauffeured into Canada.
Thanks to our woke prime ministers tweet, Canada will be paying for this for a very long time.

I can imagine the native Americans shaking their heads at your ancestors saying “fake refugees” as they decided to flee wherever they came from to provide a better situation for themselves.

I think if you look for discrimination, you are bound to find it in everything you look at.

DC’s message was to support vets. Wearing a poppy is a symbol of that support and likely observed there was plenty of folks not wearing them.

You people can be any number of people. DC has put his foot in his mouth plenty of times. I don’t agree with him all the time.

Politically correct broadcasting does not make for good entertainment.

I try not to jump to conclusions and believe DC was trying to gain more support for vets.

And I believe that’s why MacLean didn’t jump in at the time and it wasn’t until his employer told him to make a statement against DC to keep his job, that he did.

At 85, DC can kick back and enjoy his remaining golden years with a pint watching the games in comfort.

I’m more frustrated at the folks expressing outrage and offence calling for his head. To me, that is more heavy handed than anything DC has said recently or in the past.

I was at a Tim Hortons yesterday very close to UofW. There was quite a mix of turbans, hijabs and a large number of young Asian students. I noticed there were very few poppies in sight. Could it be that a good percentage of them don't know what it's all about? If i asked them what a beaver tail was, or what poutine was, or what it meant when you said "Lord tunderin i miss da rock". How many would have a clue?
Most of us grew up with poppy day.
Just sayin.

Maybe if you want a more poppy conscious population, perhaps start in the schools instead of bashing immigrants on TV?

Thanks for letting me vote Mike !
Gotta run now, doing up a human rights complaint about all the old dudes comments ! ?‍♂️

Be careful what you say folks, the free speech freedom we thought we had....

freedom of speech does not extend to your job
anyone can be fired for behavior during work hours detrimental to the business

and how has Cherry had his freedom of speech impugned?
he's free to get up on the rooftops in Kingston and shout his bigotry

what he can't do, is do that at work, no one can

I would counter you certainly do have the right at work to say what you wish. The consequences are a package deal though.

This is a common misconception, especially among the right, that freedom of speech = freedom from consequences.

They get REAL mad when they find out those two arent the same.

this is true, Evo

but my point is Cherry has not been stifled
he's still free to say whatever he likes
he just can't do it working for Rogers anymore

and people get the right to free speech confused
what we have is the freedom from prosecution for doing so

doesn't mean you can be a jackass 24/7 with zero consequences

I don't think adding "the right" has any value here. You have a valid point, but it applies to everyone. As with DC, trying to single out people that don't agree with your views as being idiots doesn't help us move forward.

Agreed, sorry If I offended anyone.

What bigotry? The bigotry you make up ?
Anyone disagreeing with the sjw's antifa leftist progressive trash is a bigot or racist, doesn't matter one bit what they actually said once they have been labelled. And either label will do.

Criticizing the social experiment this country has become is verbotten.

I feel like a certain chocolate manufacturer made a commercial that applies here.

Strawman bull dung. Every 1st/2nd generation Canadian I know their "ancestors" applied for a visa, waited for it to get accepted, showed up with their suitcase and whatever money they had in their pocket and was at the employment office looking for work as soon as they got settled in where they ended up. Your snarky little "your ancestors" quip is a full on troll load.
