Anti immigrant posts?? This thread is about equality.
Im not sure if anyone ever read Jim Goads Redneck Manifesto, but it was a decent read. It helped to shine some light on the whole black and white slavery. The fact that when North America was being cultivated a lot of the people that were brought over were European whites like the English, Irish and Scottish that were forced to do it. The Irish were beat and thrown on ships to sail to the new world, simply kicked out the boat IF they survived the trek, and told to make farms and send the goods back to the homeland. These Europeans had NO idea how to work Canadas land, and no idea how to survive a tough winter, and were pretty much just getting help from the Aboriginals of Canada the whole time. You might not consider that slavery, but hell it might even be worse to be kicked out in a land you have no idea how to cultivate and told to tough it out, find a way, or you die.
Regardless of their skin color, people will do bad things to other people for fun and/or profit.
Then, there was indentured labor that was the root of slavery.. You were supposed to work for a person for an X number of years to pay off a debt and you were pretty much their property for the duration. Started with white folk, but what passed for "HR agencies" at that period in history started bringing in cheap black indentured laborers.. Eventually a black landowner won a court victory to the effect that it became possible to have somebody indentured like that with no expiration date - so the first North American de facto and de jure black slave owner was black. Read up on Anthony Johnson from Angola if you don't believe me. Regardless of their skin color, people will do bad things to other people for fun and/or profit. The point is that the society doesn't owe visible minorities a special debt of gratitude. It was built on slave labor of all major ethnic groups.
