Canadian Tire - Curbside experiences

There is now a minimum purchase of $25.00 for online orders for curbside pickup. CT must be doing great to turn away business

It is a dealer by dealer decision

Not a corporate decision

If you have a store that has it try another.

I drive 2 mins further to a dealer store that doesnt have it. But I am lucky to be in between 2 stores.

I cancelled my order after I still didn't get the order ready for pick up email. Ended up e-mailing the local Home Hardware at noon for a couple things ($20 after tax) and got the call at 1:30 to pick it up. Was maybe a 5 minute wait when I got there. The one item was a dollar more than CT, but way better service so it was worth it.

So I just got an email from Home Hardware that the single quart of polyurethane I ordered is ready for pickup, 11 days after I ordered it. And it was in stock in the store when I ordered it... 11 days...

Its been an exercise in patience , and maybe one many of us needed. Sort of a throwback to a last century Eaton's catalog shopping where you pick a product and wait maybe two weeks, or living in a remote community and waiting for the boat to bring coffee.

Maybe this is not all bad for us, its an inconvenience , but maybe a reset was overdue.

I've got a bunch of stuff I need to buy (moto oil, hammock, grinding discs, etc.) for the house...and thinking I might just wait out the next week just so I can go to the store lol after reading all these stories here.

Ordered some Ottawa masks from EcoEquitable. They're reusable/washable ATSM 2 masks @ $25 a pop with proceeds going to CHEO.
I didn't realize that for pick-up they leave them at the couriers location, so I spent a couple of minutes looking for the wrong name in the plaza. Once I found it, everything was smooth. I could have had them delivered, but I wanted to go for a ride.

Ordered some tires from Costco. As far as I know they haven't shipped to the store yet. It will be interesting to see how the attempt to make an installation appointment will go. They have an online system, but if you include anything other than install tires ordered here, there are no appointments available. I was hoping to get an oil change at the same time, and I'm not sure if they balance the tires, or that is separate.

Kid was regaling me with stories of people ordering ten sheets of drywall and showing up in a Toyota Tercel.
I suppose if you brought your drywall knife with you. Had the measurements, and a tape measure, you might be able to get them to fit.

Aquaintance is working at a Rona, people are trying pick up 16ft trim on roof racks , think spagetti being picked up with chopsticks. He helped load about 800lbs of bagged topsoil into the hatch of a mini.

I lived in Dryden in the 1960's and the ONLY game in town was Simpsons catalog ordering. I no longer have that kind of patience and it's one of the reasons I hate ordering anything online. I want to be able to walk into a store and walk out with the product I need.

When I used to do drywall and had a hatchback, I would cut the back paper down a stud line and fold the sheet to fit it in the car. On site, just unfold and screw off the bend well. Taping wasnt so bad assuming the wall was straight and you hadnt ripped the front paper.

must have taken you about 4 yrs to do a high rise apt building

So I finally went and picked up my order from Home Hardware. Got there 8 minutes after it opened and was 9th in line... I thought you had to order online to get anything, people were they with the flyer in-hand having the employees shop for them. Wild...

The gem I had to wait behind was:
CS "Yeah I need a stainless flexible hose with a quick connect"
HH "Like for a garden hose"
CS "No not a garden hose. You know with the quick connect? It doesn't have to be stainless"
HH "Whats it for?"
CS "My kitchen"
HH "Like its for a sink?"
CS "Yeah, the nozzle with the quick connect. Its a Moen"
HH "What type of quick connect?"
CS "There is more than one kind?"

I mean it is Oshawa so I'm not expecting much, but like holy f*ck buddy is this your first day interacting with other people?

@48Connor , many years ago I had the pleasure of working retail in a lumberyard. Pre sunday shopping , buddy would roll in at 10min to 5pm, I'm changing out my kitchen faucet, what do I need??
Is yours copper? are there shutoffs?
There is a shutoff in the basement< i've shut down the whole house!
OK , are there 3/8" threaded ends on the pipe that you can fasten risers on to??
There were valves, but they were frozen, I cut them off
Can you solder ? I can also sell you compression fittings so you dont need to solder
My Father in law says compression fasteners are for amateurs .....
So its soldering then? I'll get you the parts
Can you teach me to solder in the next three mins before you close? We have company coming for dinner.

hahaha did you break out the torch and teach him, or upsell him to the compression fittings? PEX and Sharkbite are the best advancements to plumbing in the last 50 years. Expensive, but so nice.

I take back everything nice I said about Canadian Tire earlier in this thead.

Tried to help my daughter work through ordering a new set of tires for her car last week - cash and carry, I had someone who could install them as getting an apointment at CT service is a whole other ball of wax right now, and they're expensive for mount and balance..

Total gong show. Finally got a set 4 days later (the same day the sale on them ended and they would have gone up ~50% in price) but it wasn't without much drama, and at another store.

4 brand new tires for $380 taxes and fees in however was hard to not jump at, but still.....

On a different note, now I need some plumbing stuff from Home Depot for some holding tank modifications on the camper but I can't piece together what I think I need simply by browsing their website and looking at random bits that may or may not fit together to do what I need. Am I the only one who needs to stand in the aisle physically chunking different pieces of fittings and such together to see if it actually works or not, and then visualize if it'll work for the intended purpose? Hard to do that on a website.

A friend of mine will attempt to install three toilets this weekend. I advised him to wait until stores open up again; How often are plans executed properly the first time without multiple visits to Home Depot?

Toilets I would not be concerned about. Just have an extra ring or two on hand in case you screw up.

As for pp's comment, I often build a contraption in the aisle and then take it apart and pay. Funnily enough, if you want to build a gauge that measures pressure while allowing liquid to flow, their website sucks (espresso machine calibrator).

Yeah, toilets are pretty easy. Home Hardware is a great resource for "I need it now" - if you go and just show up at the curb chances are good you can get a spare wax seal or plumbing bits if he needs it vs ordering online and waiting.

If I had a dollar for every time I've done exactly that lol.

Problem is, I need to do it right now...and can't. So I've spent the last 24 hours poking around on the HD website and Amazon trying to virtualize it all...and that doesn't work well for me.
