Canadian Tire - Curbside experiences

Home hardware was in the worst position at the start of this. Their website was horrendous and most items were call for price.
I've honestly never been on their website before, but I agree it isn't that good. I go in the store all the time since there is one 2 mins from my house, though. Never had a problem in store.

I think Benjamin Moore has the stuff I want as well. I would think with them I could just call and pick up 30 mins later, so I'll try that tomorrow.

Worst part is with HH, I didn't create an account so I can't even cancel my order, and they've already charged my credit card...

Typical mediocre Canadian Tire experience. Probably 15 cars waiting by 9am and six officially designated pick up spots. It looked like only one person running orders out to the parking lot.

Higher sales, lower/slower stock shipments and a shortage of staff will be an on going issue all summer.

I've had good luck at our Orangeville store and never have seen more cars waiting than curb-side parking spots, but with the new flyer out and a long weekend I guess it's becoming more busy. Yesterday afternoon I ordered one tube of bathroom caulking, which is in stock in the store and I still haven't received the come and get it email or text.

This lockdown BS can't end soon enough!

If I had to wait two hours for $500 worth of stuff I could suck it up but to wait days for a reply and hours of waiting for a ten dollar purchase seems absurd. The reality is whether you're putting in a $1000 window or caulking it afterwards the job isn't finished until the caulk is in.

Ordered a portable air conditioner on sale at Best Buy late last night (central air only really works on the main floor, upstairs is a sauna, the basement is a fridge, and we sleep upstairs). Ordered around midnight (impulse buy as the dogs panted and we sweated), got an alert it was ready before the store even opened this morning, arrived for pickup and they had it in the back of my truck within less than five minutes.

Shame they don't sell tools and hardware. The Home Depot next door was overflowing with cars...

My house was built with hot air returns in the floor upstairs. what the hell is the matter with people. Last year I finally broke down and cut in one high on the wall in one room to try to get some of the trapped hot air moving. They used a 4" duct with some elbows in it for that return so it's not ideal but much much better than it was.

Placed an order at 9am today, e-mail says eta of Wednesday. Really hoping that's not true.
If we could go into the store it'd be a whooping 5 minute deal to get a new garden hose and some draino.
Hose on sale at costco for $28 now.

I don't have a costco membership. No real need unless I want to buy packs of giant chocolate muffins every week.... which would be amazing and bad at the same time.

Ours was built in 1914 and has been reno'd a few times since. I love the look of the original cast vents, but they definitely don't allow a lot of control and definitely don't seal well if trying to direct flow. The existing venting is a dogs breakfast, including two built into the floor in the corners of the dining room that are about 16" x 12" and have no shutter, just wide open. I was convinced they were returns until hot air started flowing when the furnace came on.

Part of me wonders if a simple stack or two to pump air from the basement to the top floor, independent of the central system, might help. If I could reverse the fans, it would help in the winter, too. I know there's only so much you can do about thermodynamics, but it is frustrating to have an abundance of what you want in one place and a shortage in another...

I prefer curb side pickup over trying to locate it instore.
Only had one negative experience few months ago where the picker couldn’t locate weights, cancelled order. Weights went back in stock so purchased them again and next picker found them. The Pickup went with no hitch afterwards. Done pickup at 4 stores in gta already.

I've done it 3 times with my local CT, first time wasn't great. 3 days to get the notice it was ready, then about 40 minutes wait time after checking in. That was close to the start of it all.

Last two times order was ready within 24 hours and picked up within 5 minutes of checking in.

Maybe they are getting the hang of it?

My only real issue with it is trying to find small obscure items online, like a drain plug gasket. The app sucks for searching, I gave up and dug through my drawer of "maybe I'll need this in the future" junk and found a few so it worked out.

I'm thinking of getting a scientific glass beaker for the kitchen and did a Google search. I'll just wait until stores open and get one as there are a few local sources. However I noticed that Walmart had one for $6.44 plus $1,000.00 delivery.

Does it come with a free kidney?

Not sure I’d trust a $1000 kidney...

There is now a minimum purchase of $25.00 for online orders for curbside pickup. CT must be doing great to turn away business. This is the CT at the Meadowvale Circle in Mississauga

edit

"It is a dealer by dealer decision

Not a corporate decision

If you have a store that has it try another.

I drive 2 mins further to a dealer store that doesnt have it. But I am lucky to be in between 2 stores".

It makes sense on a short term profit basis. The minimum wage plus CPP, EI, WSIB etc could be around $20 per hour. If it takes 15 minutes for the runner to pick up an order, find the item, double check it, process it out, find the car in the lot, get a signature and return for another order that is $5 lost profit compared to the kaching at the normal checkout. The item would still turn a gross profit but net profit after overhead is taken off would be hammered, possibly underground.

I would either bump up the order with some standard hardware or go elsewhere, especially if the other place had better stuff to bump up with.

Long term is the effect on customer loyalty. CTC hasn't been the first name to pop into my head for quite some time except for routine automotive.

BTW does anyone remember when the CTC parts department on Yonge Street had the employees on roller skates?

Well of the four orders I've had one was $45 and another was $31. The other two were less than $25. Fortunately there should only be another couple of weeks of this madness!
BTW, I finally got my "come and get it" email late Sunday afternoon for the one tube of caulking I ordered on Friday! What a shitshow.
