Oh for sure, i agree.

Calabogie is redflagged as unsafe, but is there any corner worse than turn4 at Mosport.

Errr 2?

No, turn 4.

If you make a mistake in 2 it will probably end badly. If you make a mistake in 4 it will end badly.

From what I understand they had to pull Glenn's bike out of the woods with a winch and no has yet.found the ECU and tail electronics.

I used to race gocarts on a track with a tunnel (Family Cartways in Whitby) and it was crazy fun :) I'm in for tunnels!

When I read the title I thought the thread was about the 407.

More tracks are a good thing imo.

Well we can only hope that they design a track that is both challenging and safe. If they consult with the right ppl and ask the right questions then we will have a track that everyone will want to drive or ride. If they don't, there will be a big white elephant sitting in Fort Erie.

Assuming the track layout on the website is what is being proposed, it looks like there is a possibility of a road course configuration entirely outside the oval, without using tunnels, and another configuration that goes through into the oval track infield (presumably via the tunnels that the website mentions). Pretty hard to tell from that tiny graphic how they're proposing to deal with the tunnel issues - but at least the track outside the oval shouldn't have this issue.

I did some looking and found many different images with regard to layout of tunnels and bridges. There are several deviations in the rendering's over the progression of the planning. This is the latest and highest resolution renderings I could find. Looks like there are several configurations available to avoid the tunnel and bridge. Some of the other renderings show only one tunnel under the track, 2 tunnels, one tunnel covering 2 lanes, bridge over the track, bridge on roadcourse, no bridge at all. The general layout seems to be consistent though.

If you look at the pics N3WMAN just posted it looks like the road course does not have much elevation change. That would be ashame. Hope it's not so. The elevation changes add so much to the character of the track.

This track has many issues before we even get to the tunnel. depending on "who" designs the road course will dictate the safety.
For example, if Nascar people design the track and the road course is laid inside. Looking at the banking it is unusable.
The apron would have to be used instead of the banking. But ,like Pocono years ago, 6 airlifts in one day and 3 deaths finally got them to realize and change things. Once you involve banking understand it is "self cleaning" so sure you may slide up the track and get missed by riders. But ,,see how your luck is as you slide down it! And for sure physics/history says you will slide down it.
Knowing NASCAR's track history,,,, aluminum channel with styrofoam works great for a 3000+ pound car,,,pretty sure it would feel just like a wall of cement to a rider in leathers. We're just scratching the surface!

Looking at the second image in N3WMAN's post, that bridge on the road course outside the banked oval is in an extremely dangerous place. Depending on which direction the track runs, it's either being approached at near top speed from the straightaway (get in a tank slapper on the straight and hit the leading edge of the guard rail eastbound on either side of the bridge ... or launch over the elevation change approaching the fast left), or coming out of an extremely fast right-hander (lose it coming out of that corner and hit the leading edge of the guard rail westbound on the south side).

The only useful configurations that MIGHT be motorcycle-friendly involve the west half of that course and a couple of the north-south connecting roads, so as to avoid going over or under that bridge.

The configuration from the website's main page doesn't have that bridge.

The road course design probably hasn't gone through a review process yet.

gonna still be a long time comming people!! They were set to break ground over two years ago!

My Uncle and cousin (Jay and Jesse Mason) were the ones to get the ball rolling on this. And no matter what media says, its still at a standstill.
I'll be happy to update when they update me though

Countdown timer on their website say opening Aug 29th next year, at the end of summer? :(

I wouldn't count on it, everything I have read says late 2014 for completion.

Given the OMB decision only happened yesterday, I would say that they simply have not updated their website yet...

be at least two years boys and girls.........
they still need to worry about purchasing surronding propertys, AND they have to break ground, THEN wait for frost to settle in, then start building. (they obviously don't want the ground to heave)
So, yeah, 2014, but more like racing will start 2015, PROVIDED everything goes as planned.

Its been a long time just getting to this point!
Don't get your panties all wet yet!

In building we never wait for the "frost to settle in"...actually quite the opposite. Depending on the type of land and the how much cut or fill you have to do, sometimes starting in the winter could be advantageous, If the work is performed by competent people.
