"Canada sucks" crusaders move to Russia, find out Canada wasn't so bad after all.

There are good reasons for wide spread discontent with the Feds

Except several of the things you commented about as being issues are not solely federal issues.

My head exploded yesterday reading someone in a FB group ranting about how it's all you know who in Ottawa's fault that our farmlands in Ontario are being paved over to build houses and it's putting farms out of work, and that's why the price of Orange Juice is so high right now. There was so many levels of WTF that it made me fear for the future of humanity.

... you mean like how we live in a country that is the 4th largest exporter of oil in the world, have more natural resources than 99% of the other countries, we almost control mining world wide, more trees than anyone, and here's the big one: a mostly happy, productive populous
And we have the #10 economy. We SHOULD be in the top 5.
We NEED a navy. We have the longest coastline in the world, AND we're going to have to start patrolling the north west passage (if we want to exercise our rights in our waters)... and we got what? 15 ships? Iraq has more ships than we do. Bangladesh has a navy more than 5x that of Canada
Our Army is a disgrace (if there is ever a world wide conflict, we have promised more soldiers to Nato/Europe than we have in total)
We ave HUGE natural gas reserves... and no way to get it to market.
Our oil pipelines all go to the states... and eastern Canada imports oil
It's time the "discontent" turned to action.

I don't like closing threads and I enjoy censorship even less. Please respect the OPs request (and mine), let's stay on topic here.

Edit; as I assume people will continue to respond to posts prior to reading this, ive just gone ahead and cleaned up the thread.

I think some people need to take a step back, take a deep breath, and give themselves a reality check however.

It seems that increasingly people have *convinced* themselves that we have a lot of problems that aren't based in reality.

Are things perfect? No.

Does it mean the rest of the world isn't experiencing many of the same things that we are so far as food costs, inflationary issues, housing pressures, etc? Nope.

Does it mean that all of our problems are all apparently caused by 1 person who will go unnamed, for whom a lot of people think is the sole cause of many of these issues in Canada? No.

Long story short, I think a lot of people have simply worked themselves into a state of discontent because they're failing to see the bigger picture.
I think many people are unhappy, unhealthy and bombarded with negativity.
Our news outlets seem to have an unlimited supply of "dread" to report on.
Social media is anything but social and filled with misinformation and the personal opinions of the ignorant and uneducated.

I can understand how it's hard to swing against that current. But, for those that do Canada still offers an abundance of excellent opportunities, services and a good quality of life. If you can navigate through the uncertainty and stay positive and focused you'll come out ok.

If we see positive changes and a focus towards the improvement of policies and services our outlook would only become brighter.

Pretty hard to do when every other day someone digs up proof of the government funnelling VERY significant amounts of our money into inexplicably chosen mystery people's pockets.
Didn't say it was easy and I experience the same challenges. Admittedly I find it quite difficult to stay in a positive mind set, especially on payday...

So the rest of the world are losers???
I didn't say that, I said I don't like to be compared to losers. Canada has the tools and resources to do better, what we lack is the leadership. We didn't need to unbalance housing and healthcare by recruiting new Canadians faster than we can absorb them. We don't need the multi-billion dollar boondoggles and gifts to friends of the regime (WE, ArriveCAN, Cerb fraudsters...). We do need to get our cleaner energy to market, we do need to secure our energy supply in the east. We do need to deal with inflation and the cost of borrowing and inflation.

When your kid comes home with a C+ report card after years of straight A's, do you celebrate with him because he decided all he needed to do was beat the "C" class average?

Happiness is a very subjective thing thats hard to measure.

I am curious what metric you used to rank us the #10 economy in the world? or determined us to be so productive?

Apart from the united states, no one in the west has any kind of real armed forces, I like to think they're the reason we are able to spend on healthcare.

That statement is perfect and accurate.
It’s really not. It’s actually quite dumb of a statement.

The ‘half’ is from people that don’t understand the costs of having services, and those same people complaining about lack of services if the money runs out.

The roads, water, sewers, lights, healthcare, etc etc etc all have a cost. It ain’t free. But people on average are idiots. We just like to all think we’re smarter than the average.

Yes we get taxed a lot, more than most, and yes govt efficiencies are non existent.

Fact is that someone needs to pay for it all. And if not the taxes from our paycheques then where is this money magically going to come from?

My daughter believes in fairies and unicorns. I don’t.

I googled "rank world economies" and the first two said Canada was #10
People, Canadians, I meet seem to be happy. We score well on the annual "happiness" polls.
Our GDP/Capita is around the same as most western nations.
Americans on average, spend 3-4x what we do on health care.
According to this list, US spends 4x what Canada spends on defense per capita (and they have 10x the population)

Glad someone gets it.

We have family in the USA who pay thousands of dollars a month to their insurance company just so that they can affford to take their family to the doctor and actually go to a hospital if they get sick.

Canadians just have no clue as, as I seem to say so often, they never look outside their own little bubbles, nor even seem to want to. Meanwhile they use all the things we've become accustomed to as a society, including our healthcare and social safety nets, yet get upset when they're asked to actually pay for it.

It’s actually quite dumb of a statement.

It's not dumb once you realize you're paying federal/provincial/carbon taxes on eg: gasoline then paying a goods and/or service tax on the taxes you just paid on the gas out of the money that you have left over after both governments have taken their cuts out of your gross pay before you see it.

Then give $248M of that to a company called Two Guys In A Cottage with zero oversight/follow up on why they gave it to them.

But the meme statement is dumb...because the carbon taxes, gasoline, etc are NOT on that pay stub. Those are consumption taxes. They're not taken off at the source.

I agree with you. There's way too much gov't waste, and it should be dealt with. But it won't.

And if the guy in the meme is really losing 50%...he's in the top 5-10% of earners in Canada. So...he's quite a bit better off than the majority of the country.
