Can we not change the text input box anymore? (Infuriating bug)

I never use shift enter. Just a double enter. Muscle memory.

Do you use Shift-Enter instead of just Enter for your line breaks?

The fix posted on the xenforo board is a watchdog that restricts Shift-Enter:

I was PMing with @oioioioioioioioi last night and he figured out that if he used Enter instead of Shift-Enter then the problem goes away.
@Lightcycle I think you are experiencing a different issue.
Your o and i keys are stuck.

So back to square one. I can't duplicate any sort of issue when using normal carriage-returns.

I think I see what is happening when I use shift-enter then type a character then backspace. Exactly the same thing happens with a normal single enter pressed. The editor assumes that by deleting the first character of a new paragraph, you want to back up into the end of the previous paragraph.

Shift-enter does nothing different for me than normal enter. It does not put a space between paragraphs, it does not have the effect of pressing carriage-return twice. Makes no difference.

Have you tried doing shift+enter at least twice. To create an empty line

Than typing and when you backspace. It doesnt only delete the last character you typed but also removes each empty line. As many lines as you pressed backspace for.

Btw on it my android phone it does not happen as I don't have a typical shift key

I have spent a great deal of time looking into this. Until I can replicate the issue I'm not making a change to the website. I apologize for the frustration you are experiencing and I'm continuing to investigate.

Typing this message on my laptop, using the enter key as if I'm typing in a word document I'm getting the expected behaviour.

Than backspace to delete a mistake.

It should deleted the mistake as well as remove the empty line.

That is what we are experiencing.

Let me know if it's still happening.

Still happening

Yep, still happening here too. And still insanely infuriating.

Stilllll happening.
Really makes me want to just stop coming here. For someone who touch types quite fast this bug is just making me nuts. I literally have to go back and reformat every...single....response I make.

Its' definitely something that effects some browsers and OS's but not others.
I should try to take some video of it happening lol.

Just did it again above.

Stiiiilllll happening.....

I'm honestly visiting a lot less because it just drives me batty.

Still happening on my end as well.

Very annoying. :mad::mad::mad:

It would help if the venn diagram of "problem happens" and "capable of doing something about it" had non zero overlap...

There was some discussion and links to the Xenforo website and related discussion earlier in this thread. It seems to be a forum software issue, not something we as users can fix.

Whatever the ultimate combination of browsers, connections, settings, or whatever else (it could even be a plugin, who knows) is specifically triggering it for some people versus others remains a mystery, but it comes full circle to being specific to Xen, and even more specifically to only GTAM (so perhaps something unpatched) as I have this issue literally nowhere else, including another Xen based forum I'm on.

Finally got around to recording the issue.

Basically I end up just typing an entire reply now and I have to go back through it after I'm done and add in all the paragraph breaks wherever they were randomly removed. And then if I find a typo that I have to fix it removes things AGAIN and I have to fix missing breaks over and over and over again.

Excuse the expletives, I haven't had enough coffee yet this morning.
