Can we not change the text input box anymore? (Infuriating bug)

I have tried as well on multiple devices and same issue..

Yeah, it's defiantly a GTAM thing, not a browser or OS thing - I don't have this issue *anywhere* else....and I'm on a lot of forums and such.

Test line 1.

Test line 2 in which I pressed "backspace" partway through typing in this line. Nothing bad happened.

Test line 3 in which I type in the line up to this point then cursor back and press "backspace" to delete an extra character. Nothing bad happened.

What am I doing wrong?

Windows 11 + Firefox on a laptop

test line 2 (w backspace)

test line 3 (as BP)

Same results as BP Win10+Chrome.

Test line 3

Same as bp android plus chrome

EDIT:
It was doing the annoying line delete a day or two ago on the phone. Not sure why it happens sometimes and not others.

Test test. On mobile.

Doesn’t happen on mobile. iPhone and safari.

But happens incessantly on my laptop at home. Still happening as of last night.

Seems to be a crapshoot who it’s effecting. But it’s infuriating as hell. I’m actually visiting the forum less right now as it’s maddening trying to participate.

There's an app for that.

Stupidly overkill solution but if mobile works for you, bluestacks running chrome or gtam app should work on your laptop. Fwiw, while typing this line on a computer, the bug happened once. Backspaced a few other times without happening again.

I've experienced none of this across Chrome/Edge+Windows, Safari+Apple, Chrome+Android. Seems to be user-specific.

There's probably something in the user settings (either user-configurable or a system-hidden setting).

Just as a shot in the dark, as a default blanket-policy, I do restrict 3rd-party cookies across all my browsers. Might want to try that?

Edit: also try logging out, clearing your cache and logging back in again.

So I just did some testing here to try to capture a screen recording.

If I start typing with no quote it doesn't seem to happen.

Add a quote and it happened once and then doesn't happen again.

Although usually it happens repeatedly. It just happened typing this line for that matter, but then doesn't happen again on this line - just tested it 3 times.

Aaaaaand I start a screen recording and it doesn't happen.

There's some serious level of randomness going on with the issue

Found this:

Seems like something only an admin can fix.
@Lightcycle You should be automatically promoted to admin status just for looking into it and finding the solution.

Yessssssss....this is the issue.
And yes, all along I knew there would be some code that needed to be adjusted. I just wanted the option to switch to a good old non-WYSIWYG text input box as a workaround for the time being.
And it just happened twice in this reply which is why there's no space between paragraphs.

LOL. Just thinking of all the havoc/mayhem/damage I could cause if I was given admin access...

The first thing I would do is install something like this on all the text input boxes on GTAM:

Except instead of pirate-speak, it would insert random puns into everyone's posts.

I'm ok with that.
It would keep things a little more entertaining, especially during the winter months.

Test line 1 (I never even knew about shift+enter to do two carriage-returns so I'm doing that right now)
and ... I don't get two carriage-returns, as you can see here. Now I am going to press backspace, and nothing bad happens.

hello, line test one
pressed enter once

pressed enter twice
backspace

pressed enter again twice and back space and writing stay on the same line
pressed shift enter and I did get a line break but as soon as i pressed backspace, the line break was eliminated.

It's so puzzling that out of all of the regular GTAM users (yeah, all 12 of us), this problem is only affecting three users: @PrivatePilot , @oioioi and @GreyGhost . And across multiple platforms as well.

Wonder what's in their user profile that is giving them this problem? Have you guys ever changed your default editor back in the vBulletin days before the board moved to Xenforo? Perhaps something got screwed up in the user database migration?

The issue seems to be with the froala editor that xenforo is using.

In the xenforo thread, they mentioned that the froala website has the same problem (as of Sept 14, 2022):

If you guys use the editor on this page, can you duplicate the same issue? I don't have this problem.

I never made any changed to my profile settings. .
I think I was absent from the forum when it switched from vBulletin to Xenforo.
It happened again in this post.

I will try to create a new profile and try posting again and see if the issue persists.
